Low Meadow Farms (formerly Brown Bike Farms) is a serene four-acre meadow bordered by Burnett Creek. The campground is an easy distance to Downtown Knoxville and an even easier access to all that South Knox's Urban Wilderness has to offer. It uniquely offers a hint of backcountry camping without the 25-mile hike in. It is a great way to test the waters for primitive camping or an easy stop close to the city for a seasoned traveler. It is best suited for car camping, RVs, tent, and hammock camping. There are fire pits and picnic tables at each site with enough room for tents and RVs. Most sites have trees suitable for hammock camping all along the creek. There is potable water, firewood for sale, solar showers, and a bike wash stand all next to the covered communal area. Each standard site can accommodate 2 people to keep space between groups and lessen the impact on the land. Sites 10 and 13 can each accommodate 6 guests. If you have more in your group, we recommend reserving an adjoining campsite. Sites 1, 2 and 3 are off the main path to the left of the property, and still by the creek. Sites 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are all along the creek and gravel drive Site 10 is very private with creek access on three sides. Site 11 is private with creek access all along the front. Site 12 is up high on a hill, and Site 13 is open in the middle of the meadow.

We had a great stay and it was just what we were looking for. Quite, easy to access camp site for the night as we passed through from Chicago to the Waypoint RV park in Palmetto Florida. Would definitely stop over again.

The location is convienent, well kept and pretty private. The port-o-john was immaculate!! Seriously, the creek was lovely, the site (#10) was perfect for us but I was most impressed with the port-a-potty. Someone takes really good care to keep it clean which is most appreciated for those of us who don't have bathrooms in our campers.

Build a camper out of a 1991 GMC box truck had to give it a shake down test of all systems and failures. Spent 26 days at this campground it's very nice and private, stayed @ # 2 site plenty of open space. The owners are great and very caring, also it's about 2 miles down the road for shopping with every restaurant chain and amenities I was completely blown away. Making upgrades and will return for another month of shake down testing, this vehicle is completely off grid it's being debug at this campground before bringing it to my mountain property with same condition. Site # 10 is beautiful and private.

This was a great place for our one night camping trip. I like that this place isn’t just concrete pads and feels more like you are camping out in the woods or meadow! I brought my fly rod and actually caught a few little fish I was so surprised! We would definitely go back and stay again!

Check in was a breeze and the campsite was spacious. Right on the creek which made for a peaceful stay. Loved the property - Well maintained and lots of cool plants. Wood was made available at the pavilion, new picnic tables at each site, accessible water station, large fire rings, and clean portable. Highly recommend! So much better than your standard, everyday campgrounds!

Where to go

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Four of the nine developed campgrounds in the park are in Tennessee. Elkmont is the largest, with 220 sites. Open year-round, Cades Cove Campground borders wild meadows where turkey and bear strut their stuff. For more solitude, try Abrams Creek on the western fringes of the park. Cosby has 157 sites but still feels uncrowded.

Pigeon & Little Pigeon Rivers

Pigeon Forge is an ode to excess, but tranquility is easy to find thanks to the Little Pigeon River, which flows through the sprawl. Campgrounds with tent sites and RV sites hug its scenic banks. To escape the city scene completely, head east to campsites along the Pigeon River, which twists through the foothills of the Smokies. It's popular for inner tubing and rafting.

Wears Valley Road/Hwy 321 & Townsend

RV parks and campgrounds along Wears Valley Road between Pigeon Forge and Townsend feel remote, but the drive back to Pigeon Forge is fairly quick and convenient. Townsend campsites are close to the Little River and a short drive from the Cades Cove Loop Road.

When to go

Fans of wildflowers should pitch camp during the Wildflower Pilgrimage in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in late April. The city’s parade and festival season kicks off in spring too. Summer is the high season. Dollywood and Dollywood’s Splash Country keep their longest hours from late June through early August. Family friendly attractions across town are also busy. The fall foliage season draws crowds of leaf peepers, especially on weekends. Pigeon Forge decompresses in winter, but the Winterfest light festival keeps the vibe festive.
