Hi, I'm Curt. My wife Ani, son Fitch, and I are average, everyday nonconformists who have been running an experiment.
We'd noticed as we evolved that we felt generally unfulfilled by the direction society had gone. That our biology and our brain's wiring just didn't naturally mesh when forced to blend with the masses. We had come to learn that we are far from alone, and that made us feel a little less weird.
Still, we thought the answer called for more, maybe even drastic action if we could muster the courage. We were thinking a full retreat and redesign, but had very little resources.
Can a family use their own minds and hands, with some grit, to handcraft a home and life that felt right? That they didn't even want to vacation from? I don't know, but we decided to try. We still are. Have we done it? You be the judge.
In 2019 right before the pandemic, we left our Miami handcrafted furniture business to pursue this new goal. A project in practicality and passion. We set out to build an inspiring experience in simple, eco-friendly living and find a harmony between the helpful aspects of the modern world and the good parts of the old, that maybe society should have held tight to. We wanted to play with this idea...all while keeping it classy ;-)
At Heirloom Hamlet, you will see us designing unique, functional cottages, using solar energy, composting organics, sewing and reaping, in a way that is fair to our environment. We're bread baking, pasta making, timber milling, woodworking, clay-forming and metal pounding. The goal is to evolve into a small world of self-reliance and harmony with nature.
Through good design, our goal is to show just how "normal" slow, simple living can feel. We all have personal priorities, and those will vary greatly. But within that, we can all include ways of being respectfully mindful to the earth and to our neighbors.
Visiting with us, we sure hope our guests don't expect to find a corporate approach to life here, that they can appreciate our perspectives and some of our old-fashioned ways. Our presentation at Heirloom Hamlet has been purposefully designed to be a refreshing hideaway from the norm.

Weekend Trip to Heirloom Hamlet
Spent 2 nights on Curt + Ani’s property. It was such a treat! Absolutely will be returning for more solo, me-time. It’s the perfect blend of lowkey glamping (stayed in the unit with ac) + outdoor living.
Everything about the unit was intentional, from the name, design, craftsmanship, to the books on the shelves. You can see the effort and love poured into this place.
I went to a show in Folley Beach Saturday night and arrived back to the property around 2:30-3am. Felt completely safe/ease, sat outside in the screened in lanai looking at the stars and listening to instrumentals (very quietly) until almost sunrise.
When I return I will have zero plans, park my car, and escape reality the entire time.

We had the best experience here! The tent cabin was cozy and comfortable, while the space still provided a camping experience. Just the right amount of amenities and comforts while still being in nature. The kayak tour was a very easy, laid back self-guided tour where you go with the current and can take in the sites. A friendly cat buddied up to us on our stay too- added bonus. And the farm store has some very tasty honey. We definitely recommend this experience.

Cameron's Soul Food Cafe tiny camper was a great experience! It was a perfect spot to stop for the night to rest and relax. We loved that we were able to find a place that allowed our dog as she travels everywhere with us. It was a welcoming experience with the kitty committee that came to greet us and the camper was relaxing and well put together. We would definitely recommend staying here and we would definitely stay there again in the future! Thank you Cameron for a great experience.

we booked sooo late, we ended up booking at 12am and getting there at 2am. they had no time to set anything up and it was still beautiful! in the morning we spoke to the host and he helped us with everything we needed even though it was totally our fault! him and his wife are wonderful and we will be back soon! so sorry again for booking so late, but the place was so cute and it was lovely to stay there!

Weekend Trip to Black Pearl Farms
I Loved this farm! Beautiful surroundings, a country store, and the outdoor showers were the cherry on top. Woody Stream felt like we were camping in the mountains on the west coast as it was surrounded by beautiful pines and playful bunnies. The Yurt had a heavenly bed and a wonderful pour over coffee caraffe. The hosts were also very helpful with directions and monitoring our comfortableness. HIGHLY recommend this place!

I’d never been glamping before so wasn’t sure what to expect but they really tried to think of everything.
We had what we needed to grill some food, set up a fire, & relax by the water without having to bring anything.
Olivia was very thoughtful & welcoming & the space was so serene. Early in the morning I watched the turtles coming up on the lake and listened to the birds.

Weekend Trip to Heirloom Hamlet
We spent this past weekend at Heirloom Hamlet celebrating my wife birthday, and it ended up being one of those stays you don’t forget.
Curt and Ani have created something truly special here. The cottage is entirely custom-built, and you can feel the time, care, and intention that went into every detail. It’s not just a place to stay, it reflects a year of hands-on work and passion, and it shows in the craftsmanship and overall feel.
One of the most thoughtful touches was walking into the cottage and finding a birthday cake waiting for my wife. We didn’t expect it at all, and it says a lot about the kind of hosts they are.
The property itself feels like a quiet little bird sanctuary. Free-range chickens wandering around, constant songbirds in the background, it honestly felt like a bird haven tucked into the coastal pines and oaks. There’s also a massive 200+ year old live oak right in the center of the property that really stands out. It has a presence to it and ended up being one of our favorite parts of the whole place.
The design of the cottage strikes a great balance, custom and modern, but still warm and grounded in the setting. Nothing feels generic.
If you’re looking for something unique, peaceful, and built with real intention behind it, this place delivers. We’ll definitely be back!

Lots of fun!! Very pretty spot. Nice and shady. Fishing poles and tackle are NOT included so bring your own. One thing I would like to make people aware of is that the bathhouse is on the other side of the property so prepare for a walk when you plan on using it. But it was a beautiful place and I would absolutely come again. (Maybe in the fall 😉)
