From U.S. Highway 550 (mile marker 112.5), you will see the National Park sign, drive south on County Road 7900 for 5 miles.
After 5 miles (the road comes to a “T”) you will see another National Park sign, on the right hand side. Turn right on County Road 7950. You cannot turn left. (If you go straight, that will take you to Pueblo Pintado).
Drive 3 miles on County Road 7950. The pavement will end. On the right hand side you will see a sign that says "Dry Camp".
THE CAMPGROUND IS ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE. There will be a sign that reads: “Horsethief Campground”. In front of the short road to the Campground.
At the end of the short road to the campground is: a large school building, and 2 other buildings. We apologize that the road is a little uneven, but we are looking to improve this real soon. You are welcome to park inside or outside the gated area.
Horse-Thief Campground is an upcoming camp; located on 5 acres of land and more, for campers to enjoy. In a quiet; serene, beautiful landscape area of the Dine Nation.
With beautiful sunrises; sunsets and night sky is out of this world. There are trails in which visitors may walk or bike, as well as a Look Out Point. Horse-Thief is currently a Dry Camp with no Electricity or running water however generators are welcome. There is one portable restroom.
P.S. If you have already paid on Hipcamp, you do not need to pay again. However, please sign the Waiver provided.

Wonderful spot. Was extremely quiet, peaceful and beautiful. With this spot, you will get the view of the sunset through the trees pretty much every single day. I am a writer and business owner, and this provided a really great inspirational spot for me! Highly recommend!
When I went, the owner had just poured in new loose gravel, so leveling for my 28ft trailer was a bit tough, but if you bring ample equipment, very doable!

Ben and his campsites were great!! Super hospitable, easy communication and he did everything to make sure we had a great time! Sites are level and close to hookups for easy connection. He even made a pull-through pathway for one of the sites so we could easily drop the camper and go drive around the woods! Beautiful area, lots of great backroads, and a super safe neighborhood. We even had deer browsing outside our camper right at Ben’s sites!!! Great experience, highly recommend, both for the RV hookup sites (which I used) as well as his tent sites, which looked great. Thanks Ben!!

This Hicamp is a gem! The location is breathtaking, the area is well maintained, and the hook ups were thoughtfully set up. The area is so quiet and peaceful and the host is very responsive.
The site was already pretty level so it was an easy set up once you get parked.
The host does put in their listing about the difficulty of getting to the spot, we have a 25 ft trailer and we backed it in from the road.
The host offers multiple spots and you can look at pictures first to gauge what you feel comfortable with.
We will definitely book again and again!

View over the ponderosa pines to a large meadow where we could hear elk bugling each night! We did not need hookups but camped with friends who used them- all good.
Friendly, hospitable hosts.
Convenient to the Valles Calderas, great area hikes, Jemez Springs and day trip to Abiquiu.

This site is right on the river bank and is super peaceful. We did not have any problems with bugs. The site is set up with full hook ups as well as a little patio with a fireplace and seating. J & T met us upon arrival and were very friendly and informative about local things to do. Getting out was a little tricky (our tt is 27’) but not impossible. We’ll definitely be staying again!

This was a great alternative to Gallo campground if you want to visit Chaco. We had a camper and so being in a dry camp was fine for us. We drove out on the property under a tree with some great views. There are other trees on the property to drive to that people were staying at also. The dark night star lit sky was incredible! It was quiet and a good place to come back to before and after visiting Chaco. Be prepared for a 30 minute drive on a dirt road that is very bumpy. We did see a lot of wild horses on the drive in and out of Chaco which made it. Yolanda was very nice and helpful and said that they are hoping to get water and electric out there soon.

The camp spot is beautiful and has a great patio area to view the river and local wildlife. We saw blue heron and geese fly the river. The hosts are very friendly and the letter they provide gives a lot of local information. The site now has 30 Amp service and water. I don't believe it had that when we originally booked. Since there is only one spot you are guaranteed some privacy and quiet time. The site is almost absolutely perfect. Things to consider when booking this site. The site is right next to a river so there are bugs. Small nats and flys were prevalent at night swarming around lights. Our screens didn't stop the small nats. This is to be expected as you are near a river and not at Disney. Another is the road to the site has a few humps and dips in it, so if you have a weight distribution hitch you should probably disconnect the bars before going down that final stretch. Also, even though we have a relatively short trailer (19 feet) it took a little work to get out of the site. Nothing to stop us from booking again, but I am glad we have a relatively small trailer.

It’s very peaceful and cozy. My cousin and I had a last minute runaway and we ended up here. Amenities were great too! The scenery is amazing and calming. Definitely staying again. My dog loved it too 🐶 Kudos to dog friendly places! Would be super cute to have dog treats!

This spot was a dream for me. Cabin is comfy but doesn’t feel too small. Master bed is truly wonderful. Adjustable and with a dreamy mattress.
We spent most of the time on the porch painting and reading and playing fetch with our labradoodle, who was in heaven.
We were mostly unaware of neighbors or much nearby activity. Merlin app caught so many new birds.
I hope to return soon.

This was such an amazing experience! You enter along an unpaved road and are basically in the middle of scrubland as far as you can see. We heard coyotes in the distance at night, the moon rose *orange* on the horizon, and the stars were incredible. So peaceful, and very close to Chaco Canyon. Thank you so much for hosting us!
