1 night at Sugarhill Campgrounds🐞🙏

Kevin greeted us upon our arrival. His mother and a friend wanted to meet the campers as well. The camping space was as advertised and we had no issues. Perfect place to spend the night. We learned a lot about life on the reservation which was great insight. Meeting people is one of our favorite things to do while traveling. I think we have a new freind. FYI I usually don’t leave reviews unless something special occurs.

Very well maintained site next to a small river. We were visites by ducks, deer and turkeys! Flat area with hookups for trailers, several flat areas near the river for tents, and super cute trailers for glamping. Bath house with heated showers and flush toilets. They even set up our fire ring

This was a great camp site. Wonderful bathrooms… great showers… a real treat.

Weekend Trip to Camp Rio

We absolutely LOVED camping Rio! Clay, the other, was incredibly welcoming over the phone, and the campground manager, Lori, was an absolute doll and so accommodating! Pleasantly surprised with how clean the campground was, along with much nicer restrooms than we expected. Overall, would highly recommend

Beautiful place, lovely river and the restroom are clean! And they have these ducks on the river that are so cute and sometimes in the morning you can see turkeys!!!

Such an amazing experience. Perfect for couples and furry friends to experience the beautiful outdoors and still having comforts of the modern world like showers and heaters! We were nothing but relaxed and peaceful during our stay. The hosts are so friendly and welcoming. Would love to visit again.

Tent site by the creek was awesome. Restrooms where clean and heated. Host was very very helpful and friendly. Would go stay there again.

Weekend Trip to Camp Rio

The camp was beautiful and quiet, very peaceful and clean. The little river running through camp has crystal clear water and you can see trout hanging out under the willows and near the bridge. Waking up to about 40 turkeys walking through camp early in the morning was pretty cool as well. Would definitely stay at this camp again!

It’s amazing! It’s beautiful and calm, it has extremely clean public areas and comfortable camping areas. The owners are extremely kind and helpful, I can say confidently you’ll have a great time staying here!

My second time camping here it’s a great place just have to remember it’s colder in the valley just pack extra warm.

14 nights at Camp Rio

The bathrooms were warm, clean and had consistent hot water! Water and power hook-up worked, as advertised. I used the pavilion to work out and it was clean (no hot water to wash dishes). I wouldn't say that my spot was "romantic" but the grounds were beautifully well-kept and the stream featured in all the photos online was as magical as people say. Firewood and a fire ring is $25 extra. The food truck that was open on Fridays had the best elote I have every tasted. The staff we met were all very nice, friendly and personable, with the exception of one male staff who took a rude tone with me about my 12 year old dog being off leash for less than five minutes. I welcome all reminders about the rules, I do not welcome rudeness. So keep your dog on a leash unless you want him to yell at you. Lauri was especially attentive (remembered my name) and wonderful to talk to! Make sure to throw your garbage away at the end of the night and supervise your food, as there was a stray dog that visited often, day and night. My wifi didn't work well in this mountainous valley (Starlink) but I was able to connect to the camp's wifi and was able to work my full schedule. What a god send. No phone service, so be prepared. A little slice of heaven with Elk, wonderful stars and lovely people. I would recommend this place and I would visit it again!

Weekend Trip to Sugarhill Campgrounds🐞🙏

Kevin’s site in Mescalero NM was really special. There was a little more ambient noise than I expected, wafting up from the village and roads. But the noise died down and the skies were starry (no light pollution). The campsite was level with a good view and a decent firepit (BYO wood). It was easy to make a day trip into Cloudcroft for lunch and rock hounding, followed by an afternoon of hiking. I would agree with other campers that the thing that stood out was the generosity of Kevin and his wife Shawn (not sure of the spelling). I was solo camping and they invited me and my dog into their home for morning coffee. They had lots of suggestions and also gave me a glimpse into Apache life. Strongly recommend!
