The Magic Land Homestead is our 70 acre wooded private retreat. We are about an hour from St. Louis, Missouri, on a beautiful country drive. We rent our Enchanted Treehouse that sleeps up to 9 guests for those who enjoy a more pampered getaway with a real bathroom and shower, and we also rent out a Rustic A-Frame that's a little more primitive with a composting toilet and a hose shower out back.
Our four free range lovable dogs, colorful chickens, silly geese and goofy turkey Hammerstein, are usually part of the fun of your stay. We have a 3 acre lake with kayak and paddle boat and dock as well as a spring fed wet weather creek.
Our mission is to grow our own organic food and to live as sustainably and mindfully as possible in connection with Mother Nature. So the guests we attract are looking for a sacred more quiet getaway. If you wish to throw a big party another place would be best.

Located at the confluence of the Meramec River and Labarque Creek, my place (Matt's Place) is a ridge above a bottomland bowl of sorts.
The old iron truss bridge here is likely built in 1910 and it has a survey marker from 1932.
The creek has a nice little swimming hole, and a beach that is sometimes sand, sometimes, gravel, and sometimes a mix of both with some silt or even mud after a storm. It's peaceful down there to explore in the creek, wade while looking outward to an opening into the Meramec River. It's also fun to stand just at the mouth of the creek in the Meramec River. It's an awesome view upstream or downstream of tree lined banks, rock bluffs, and every now and then, passing boats, canoes, paddle boards, or kayaks. The old iron truss bridge hovers above the meeting of two waters. The water is cool and clean. Some fifty species of fish have been recorded in this creek, the most in all of Jefferson County and St Louis County. The bottomland has two levels, the lower bottoms down by the creek and the upper bottoms about a hundred feet from the creek. The upper bottoms has a clearing like a meadow with mowed grass.
My favorite things to do here include gazing up at a cottonwood tree that must be sixty feet tall. It's leaves in a breeze are like a thousand hands waving hello. The bottomland meadow offers just enough sky to see bats dance in the dusk air between the trees, then fireflies as it gets darker yet. Up top is where I live.
Just five miles off HWY 44 and HWY 109, at Eureka, MO, (30 minutes west of downtown St Louis, 18 minutes from Six Flags) this place sits on a ridge with great views above the Meramec River.

The farm and staff are absolutely fantastic! We had an issue with charges, which they resolved with some investment of time on their part. They all I’ve and beyond in service. Helping us find our site in the dark, making sure we had enough supplies and even throwing a pair of jeans in the dryer for our teenager 😁

Weekend Trip to Arcadia Valley Outdoors Land
We camped in the safari tent and had a cozy lovely time. Although it was in a loop with other campsites it felt plenty private, set back from the road and separated from the other sites by plenty of trees. Didn't end up trying the tub, but it looked nice. The wood stove kept us warm throughout the night, and the solar power bank and water pump were a nice touch.

Weekend Trip to Matt's Place at Meramec n Labarque
Matt is a wonderful host. We stayed in his cabin and had a great evening in front of the fire listening to the sounds of the river. Matt can provide extras to enhance your stay - we had coffee and toast and jam in the morning. Everything was perfect- Matt is very responsive, thoughtful and kind. I loved the new outhouse!

I spent this past weekend at a very special place. I was looking for “unique places to stay,” within driving distance and found Old Man River Nature Retreat outside of Potosi, MO. The waterfall and crystal creek were definitely the highlights of our overnight adventure. Our kids couldn't have had a better time splashing around. We took an early morning hike after staying in their on site teepee. The gas fire pit in the middle kept up warm through the night and the 2 fans circulating the air perfectly. We even went through a therapeutic sounding thunderstorm overnight...staying comfortable and dry. Hearing the birds and crickets and coyotes were also pleasent noises to relax in nauture with. Jim also provided dry firewood to make sure we could enjoy a campire. For added comfort and perfection there is a bathhouse/kitchenette with more than one would need for Camping...shower, toilet, running water, kitchen table air conditioner. Also fully stocked with fishing poles and lake toys, which we plan to utilize on another trip. Jim provided knowledge for his own trails on site and is only a short text away. Jim and Cindy are amazing for sharing their own slice of heaven with us.

Wow! What a nice retreat. The sites are well maintained and everything has been thought out and put together for a peaceful getaway. The spa area was so very relaxing. We used the woodburning sauna and ice bath. Wonderful! The remote setting amongst the trees made the spa area a unique experience. So grateful for the composting toilets that were well spaced amongst the sites for easy use. Water was easy available. 10 mins away Elephant Rock and 20ish mins away from Johnson Shut ins. We will be back for another stay. Highly recommend.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Magical Birthday Celebration!
We celebrated our daughters’ birthday at Lakeside Tipi Escape, and it was perfect from start to finish. Passing through the gargoyle-guarded gates felt like entering another world — peaceful, beautiful, and full of wonder. The tipi, tucked in the pines near the lake and waterfall, felt like a cozy fairytale hideaway. The kids fished, explored trails, played by the water, and loved visiting with the friendly dogs. Cindy and Jim are amazing hosts — warm, thoughtful, and even surprised our girls with birthday cupcakes! Their care and love for this sanctuary shines in every detail. Our daughters called it the best birthday ever, and we couldn’t agree more. We left with full hearts, happy kids, and memories we’ll treasure forever.

We got 2 glamping tents for a 15th birthday- 3 kids, 1 adult, 2 dogs. All enjoyed the stay. Nice pond. Comfy beds. Elizabeth works hard to provide and ensure you have what you need. Farm animals are always lovely to see and be around. Nice patch of property to explore on foot. Shared kitchen area a nice touch (for our ice-cream cake and meals).

My rock loving son and I spent the night here and my only complaint is we didn’t plan to stay longer! Everything about this peaceful and beautiful land is amazing. We stayed in one of the furnished yurt style tents and it was gorgeous and had so many nice details like fairy lights and a fan!
The hosts Elizabeth and Mark really went out of their way to make our stay incredible. My son is an avid rock collector and Mark showed him all sorts of rocks from his collection and even cut a few of the ones we collected.
It was hot outside but we still slept well with the fans in our tent. The outdoor kitchen had everything we needed and the compost toilets and the showers were clean with great warm water. We started our morning by relaxing in the awesome hammocks by the pond and then visiting all the farm animal's.
This is a must visit place for anyone who loves rocks or is seeking a family friendly place to enjoy the outdoors. We are already looking forward to our next trip back!

Keith and Benka have “piece of Eden” ! I went on a solo trip looking for some personal me self care time. I asked Keith for some options on hiking and waterfalls. He recommended the best options for me and my personal preferences. The Tipi was over the top beautiful and nestled just right within the woods. Private. Beds are very comfortable and have heaters in them for winter. The accessories for your stay are endless! ! They have remembered everything a traveler may forget. Cute grill that is private and sun room with a fridge to use. Bath house with very modern and clean !!
Owls hooting at night reminding Mother Nature works even when sun is down. Morning meditation on my own personal deck! Perfection to start the day with. Benka’s cinnamon coffee was extra special and yummy to the daybreak of peace and quiet of the new day. Keith & Benka are world travelers that have lived and captured their experiences thru out the property with books and photography . They also support Tibetan children that are in exile with a donations collected. This is an exceptional couple with kindness to share for their travelers and people of all cultures! I will most certainly stay again and again! Deep gratitude for my new friends!

5 nights at The Magic Land Homestead
What a wonderful homebase for a beautiful retreat away from the hussle and bussle of city life! I went in most excited for the indoor swing, which was as spectacular as expected, but everything else on the site was so comforting and it was so easy to feel at home. Hearing the roosters every morning was such a fun way to feel connected to nature as soon as the sun came up. If you're looking for true rest and relaxation, while being in the middle of tons of trails, river spots, and natural oasis' - this is your place! Laura was so helpful and accommodating of our needs, and easy to contact even with the low cell service (which was a wonderful way to 100% disconnect from it all). We can't wait to come back again someday, any spot on the Magic Land seems to be recipe for a great time. :)

2 nights at Lakeside Tipi Retreat
Fabulous grounds with so much to do! Rock hunters, great bird watching with numerous Whip-poor-wills, Chucks Poor Widows and so much more. The tipi is great, very cozy & cool in the evening. It's roughing it, cooking/shower wise but has a bathroom! Jim & Cindy are very accommodating and cool folks. The hammocks, kayaks, canoe and float mat on the lake and the tranquil waterfalls are a great place to mellow out at. Dogs are super friendly and good dogs! Definitely recommend! ❤️

Weekend Trip to Arcadia Valley Outdoors Land
We stayed at the Arcadian Osasis site and it was just that an oasis. The yurt was amazing, wonderful amenities like the solar fridge- we didnt use but would be great for those staying longer than we did. The kettle with butane burner was fantastic when we needed our coffee the next morning. The yurt felt very bohemian right up my alley. My daughters are teens and they had a such a great time. It was a wonderful time in a beautiful serene setting to take time with family.away from technology. Thank you Arcadian Valley Oasis for the gift you set up in nature we loved our stay.
