This land has been asking to be shared. First it was swings and little things for the grandchildren and their friends. Then the Cabin by the pond began to welcome visitors. Soon the steep slope anchored a Yurt with a wrap-around deck that puts you up in the trees. Our gathering spot by the creek became a camp site. Recently the grandkids' Bunk House found its way in. Our Retreat is 10 acres, narrow, but 1/4 mile deep, stretching down a steep wooded slope to a creek - and up the other side to the top of a bluff. It is only ten miles to Jefferson City but has a quiet and distant feel.

The town of Hartsburg and the Katy Trail access is about a mile away and a flat and easy ride. Be sure to check out The Hitching Post, Hartsburg's local watering hole famous for its bluegrass jams! Hartsburg Hitching Post hours: Monday-Thursday open 4pm-1am, Friday and Saturday open 3pm-1am, Sunday open 12pm-12am. The Burg is a great place to grab breakfast, lunch or dinner on Friday and Saturday, or breakfast and lunch on Sunday. The Burg Cafe hours: Monday-Thursday Closed, Friday open 11 am-7pm, Saturday and Sunday open 7am - 1pm. The Burg has a small number of grocery items for sale as well, including ice and beverages! The closest grocery store is located in Ashland, Missouri, about 10 minutes north. The only access to nearby towns is by personal vehicle or bike as no public transportation is available. The cabin was super cute and very well stocked with anything you may need so all you need to bring is clothing and food. I do wish there was a screen door on the sliding doors so that you can enjoy fresh air in the cabin. I absolutely lived the screened porch. Will definitely be back for a longer visit.

I really enjoyed my time on the farm. Some things to know: The outdoor shower has hot water. You can also get Wi-Fi. The port a potty was 5 star. No smelly! The pond does not have a Sandy beach and there was not a clearing through the brush to even get to the water- maybe in the height of summer this is different. The cabin was cozy, bed comfy. I did wish for a screen door and would have been thankful for air to be turned on before my arrival- the cabin temp fluctuates in both directions with outdoor temp rapidly. I enjoyed the grounds. Beautiful. Some great wide trails to hike. Hartsburg, and the Katey Trail are literally a miles down a gravel road. Would totally be doable to ride off the trail and stay the night! Visitors in the Farm House were definitely noted, they are pretty close and if out on their patio you will def hear their entire conversation, lucky for me they only did that on night one. (It was highlighted for me bc I was traveling solo, as a woman, and they came in loud and late and didn’t maintain their suggested boundaries. Night two was not the same.) Communication from host was really great. I would return or tell others about the opportunity to enjoy this sweet little spot.

We just came back from our second trip to Hummingbird Hollow Outdoors, and once again it felt absolutely magical. ✨ As a single mama of four, camping can sometimes feel overwhelming, but renting the yurt made it so much easier — and honestly, it turned into something even more special. The land itself is breathtaking, and the experience of being surrounded by animals roaming freely, sweet and friendly, made it unforgettable for my kids. They were in heaven, completely obsessed with every animal they met. Making magical core memories with my children is my number one goal as a mama, and this place does that and so much more. It wasn’t just a getaway — it was a memory-making trip that gave us those moments I know my children will carry in their hearts forever. The beauty of the land, the warmth of the animals, and the sense of peace all around truly make it a one-of-a-kind spot. This is more than a five-star rating, but five stars is the max. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We’ll definitely be coming back as often as humanly possible!

Hummingbird Hollow was exactly what we needed this past weekend. The yurt, Lady Asha, was beyond expectations and had everything we needed. The animals (especially the horses and donkeys), the creek, the foliage, was all the nature healing we could ask for. We can't wait to go back!

1 night at Retreat to the Country

This yurt was absolutely spectacular - my jaw actually dropped as soon as I opened the door. This was our checkpoint on our way home to Ohio from Colorado, 16hrs in the car from CO to MO, and this little place was exactly what we needed. We were elated to find AC, full working kitchen and shower, the most comfortable bed of our entire trip, and gorgeously whimsical deco fitted with tea candles and fairy lights for the perfect ambience. Their kitchen was fitted with all of the utensils and equipment one would need, including a microwave, electric stovetop, and a pantry stocked with seasonings, among many other kitchen amenities. The food we picked up on our way into town had gotten cold by the time we got in, so we were so relieved that we could use the kitchen to heat it all back up! Even the outhouse was stellar, with running water for washing and compost toilet. All in all, the only thing I would have changed about our stay is that I wish we could have stayed longer! Excellent campsite guys, thank you so much
