Where to go

Lake Jacomo and Blue Springs Lake

Outdoor recreation and public camping options can be found just south of Blue Springs along the sparkling waters of Lake Jacomo and Blue Springs Lake. Combined, these waterways offer 1700 acres of water for fishing, boating, and paddling. Hiking trails meander along the shores. Jackson County Parks & Rec operates Blue Springs Campground, Jacomo Campground, and Longview Campground, which offer tent camping and RV sites. Dry camping, electric-only, and full-hookup campsites are available.

Kansas City

Nationally, Kansas City might be known as the home of the Chiefs and Royals. While Missouri’s largest city loves its sports, it also offers arts, culture, history, nightlife, and so much more—not to mention the famed barbecue—all just 20 minutes west of Blue Springs. Private RV parks dot the suburbs, offering a range of amenities. Popular public campgrounds include Weston Bend State Park and Watkins Mill State Park. Both have tent and RV sites with dry camping and electric-only hookups.

Knob Noster State Park

Just under an hour east of Blue Springs, Knob Noster State Park offers a natural retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the KC metro. Two small lakes serve as the focal point for both scenery and recreation, with fishing, paddling, hiking, and biking opportunities all found in the park. Basic and electric tent and RV sites are available. Or, pack your backpack with camping gear and hit the McAdoo Trail, which has a trailside primitive campground.

When to go

Missouri’s summers are hot and humid, but that’s a great time to enjoy the lake life, as the waters warm. Spring is generally mild, with pleasant temps. Watch the landscape turn green after a long winter’s sleep. Speaking of winter, it’s generally not the best time for camping, due to the cold weather and occasional snow and ice. For strolling around Blue Springs, KC, or an outdoor trail, fall is particularly pleasant, with the added touch of colored leaves.
