Hidden Springs Hideaway is a little oasis, nestled in the woods. Located in southeastern Minnesota's driftless region, where you are surrounded by rolling green hills, the Zumbro River and limestone bluffs.
Only a half-mile to the quaint town of Mantorville (some call it the Stars Hollow of Minnesota) where you'll find a cute coffee shop, antique stores, a breakfast spot in an old school house, a park on the river, a restaurant built in the 1850s and a saloon with drinks and live music.
The Hidden Spring Hideaway is an off-grid, sustainable glamping experience set on a 25-acre working homestead just 15 miles west of Rochester, MN. Along with forest views and trails, don’t be surprised if a few friendly chickens wander by to say hello. Enjoy a pot of coffee or a bottle of wine, among the trees.
The bell-shaped canvas tent provides private sleeping accommodations for two (a real queen bed, not an air mattress), an outdoor kitchen space and a gravel patio to relax with a campfire. The property offers walking trails throughout the 25-acre woods with mature trees, an array of birds, flowers, a food forest, wildcraft medicinal herbs and the Zumbro River for guest enjoyment. If you would like a tour of the woodland property, one of the site hosts - Steve (a tree expert), would gladly show you around the land. Please send a message and we will arrange this for you.
Please note, the Hidden Spring Hideaway has no running water or electricity. Everything is run on solar, rechargeable batteries and propane. There is adequate lighting inside and outside, plus lanterns, flashlights and headlamps for your use. For drinking, cooking and washing, there is a three-gallon cooler full of water for you. You're welcome to bring more of your own water as well or there is a convenience store a half-mile down the road (Casey's). There is a new outhouse on the property that includes a bench seat toilet. There is compostable material provided to sprinkle in after you finish your business. Handwashing supplies are provided.
Firewood is available for purchase. $5 a bundle. Please message me at least a day before your stay to reserve and it will be delivered to the site.

This 6 acre farm used to be a sod farm, and then a Christmas tree farm. Camping provided is in the remnants of the uncut Christmas tree forest which is about 6 acres. Small little get away from Rochester. Airport traffic, but it is enjoyable. 10 minutes to downtown Rochester. PLEASE KEEP DOGS OFF OF THE BEDS IN THE CABIN.

Plenty of outdoor spaces to hike, bike, fish, canoe, and paddleboard! Property adjoins to a bike trail that will take you into town and varies other places including a newly installed 18 hole Frisbee Golf Course.
From Turtles, to Eagles, chances are you will see both during your stay, along with a deer or 2. A nature lover's paradise, you'll have the opportunity to fish or simply relax and take in the serene surroundings. Guests are welcome to fish the ponds, but it is limited to catch and release only. We trust that all guest will be respectful of this policy and of the land. Spring Valley creek Runs along the property and guests are welcome to fish that as well.

But If you want more of the city experience, Rochester is an easy 35-minute drive away and offers all the amenities and experiences of a bigger city.

My 9 year old and I had a perfect little getaway here. We started by exploring the town and were warmly welcomed into so many places: the old school house, Finds on 5th, the Chocolate Shoppe, the Opera House (where we got to see an impromptu play where we got to yell at the villain and cheer the hero), Hubble House (oldest restaurant in MN) and the Artist Guild. We then made our way to our Hidden Spring glamping site.
We were met there by the owner’s dad, Steve. He took us on a wonderful tour of the property in his side-by-side that included the property’s history and information about the trees and ecology and plans for the future. He was very generous with his time and patient with my daughter as she asked to stop and meandered about in the river and picking wild strawberries. It was clear that the family has put a lot of time and effort into maintaining and developing it.
The campsite itself is beautiful. It sits up above the property and you can look down into the forest. The tent is well laid out, welcoming and, despite the high heat and humidity while we were there, smelled and felt very fresh. Everything you need is included, including battery powered fans (2 of them), headlamps, games and books, tea and coffee. The bathroom is a shed that has been converted into an outhouse and is clean and dry and has fairy lights inside to light it up.
We both highly recommend staying here, both for the site itself and for the welcoming community in which it resides!

The cabin was nice with two twin mattresses and one full. Outhouse was clean. Zip lines were fun for the kids. There was no running water on the property. And our dog loved chasing deer and rabbits. Good location, nice size property to wander around and my family would enjoy camping here again. Thanks Edward!

Such a gorgeous property and a great place to camp! We stayed in the a frame and while the lot it sits on was a bit small it was still perfect for us and two dogs. We stayed for two nights and ended up being the only ones there for a little while which was perfect for the dogs and lots of area to walk around that we all loved! We already have another trip planned to come back in a couple weeks would definitely recommend!

We had a great time at the Edge! It seemed like we were the first campers of the season so we did have to clear out a lot of cobwebs and air out the space. The water also wasn't running. However we were the only ones there and stayed super dry in the cabin during the rain! Will be back soon!

Third time at The Edge charming rustic cabin since earlier this summer. It was wonderful to see the seasonal differences of the surrounding corn and soy bean fields over the months. Other than the host Edward stopping by on the day of arrival to show me the ropes of the wood stove, my dog and I had complete solitude for four nights. Like my last two visits, I hit the weather jackpot with sunny breezy days near 65-70 degrees and mild nights. Hard to imagine tiring of this sweet place. Edward has been timely in responding to all my questions and for those who aren't familiar with the general area, everything you can imagine for your camping/cabin/food needs are about 10 minutes away (Fleet Farm, Menards, various fast and slow food restaurants, etc.).

This site has everything you could possibly need and more! The yurt has a beautiful set up inside, very cozy and comfortable. It was so nice to have a clean outhouse to use whenever needed. The trails nearby are absolutely stunning, especially with the pretty fall colors. Amanda provided so much helpful information- it is clear that they care for this land and we thank her for sharing it with us!

This was a great place to escape to for some time in nature, while being close to town if you need to run and get anything! The campsite is set up so well with a lot of nice amenities. Loved the decor and set up in the tent. The lavender spray was a great touch! And the property to explore and immerse yourself further into nature was so wonderful! I heard and saw so many different bird species at the site and further into the property. When I was relaxing by the river a blue heron flew by a few times, also a juvenile bald eagle and adult bald eagle, I heard some turkeys and I saw 2 deer! It also rained for a little bit and it was sooo relaxing to read my book and listen to the drops hitting the tent. It was the perfect place to spend some time reconnecting to myself and nature!

This was my second trip to the cabin at The Edge; it will likely not be my last. This is one of my favorite places to visit! First, a few things to consider: The entire property has no electric or potable water. The ceiling lights inside the cabin are VERY dim, so bring good supplemental light. The exterior light over the door is also VERY low light. The lovely hanging garden lights around the parameter of the site are lovely but dim solar lights. Second, bring something to use for curtains. There are four windows in total; I use a cut up light weight canvas painter's cloth cut into quarters and they work really well! I tie them back during the daytime for added light. Third, this cabin in RUSTIC, in that there are well-used (not fresh) sheets on the beds and is quite dusty. I bring my own fitted sheet and blankets/pillows. Some folks might like to use a sleeping bag instead. Fourth - there was recent rain and lots of mud; one family using a tent site got stuck - they were driving a van rig and pulling a car - ultimately, they had to call a pro towing service and it ate up a couple of hours of their day and a few hundred $. I imagine this can be remedied by contacting the owner first to hear about conditions. This is a beautiful little area that I cherish. There is airplane and car noise, but I was easily able to block it out and enjoy the birds. On the edge of a wooded area and up-close-and-personal to acres of corn and soybean fields. I can hardly wait to return.

Host Edward always answered my questions very promptly. The property is a patch of wooded area surrounded by corn fields. It was beautiful! The small cabin is located at the edge of the wooded area and the front porch faces the corn fields. I did hear traffic in the distance and a few airplanes every day; the sounds did not bother me at all. Lots of birds to listen to and watch! The cabin is quite cute on the exterior and basic and rustic on the inside; no electrical or water, although there is a main outhouse and I think a non-potable water source; I had self-contained equipment and supplies so can't speak to either. There is a wood burning stove that I did not need to use because I was plenty warm at night. The windows (4) do not have window coverings and I knew this in advance, so just brought cloth and pins to take care of that. I originally booked two nights and loved the experience so much, I was able to stay a third night (and will be returning for four nights in the fall!) If you like rustic, you will likely love staying at Edward's place! PS while I stayed in the cabin and also no one else on the property, I got to peek at the camp sites as well. I would definitely be delighted to tent camp on any one of the sites; a couple were quite spacious and all had sturdy fire pits.

We were looking for seclusion and that's what we found here! Absolutely amazing experience. The tent, bathroom, battery and solar-powered lights and the whole property was so clean and well maintained. The mattress in the tent was Very comfortable! I forgot my fan, but there was a battery powered fan in the tent that provided the perfect sound i needed to sleep. The walking trails down to a creek and River were breathtaking, encountered a deer and several beautiful birds on our hike. I would highly recommend this campsite to anyone looking to escape this busy and crazy world. Find the trail map in a folder in the tent, explore the trails A Find The Oasis! You won't regret it.

Weekend Trip to The Edge
Super barebones but that's what makes it so great! Nothing in the cabin but essentials. Looks to be very kid friendly as well. Multiple play areas and a tree-to-tree zipline. The firepit isn't too far away, but there's also a communal firepit halfway between the outhouse and cabin. Outhouse lights weren't working when we were there but it was plenty clean for an outhouse. One gripe about the actual cabin, no curtains/shades. This makes the cabin pretty open, but don't expect much privacy during your stay. We ended up hanging a couple blankets that we had. Arguably, the most comfortable cabin bet we've slept on though!

What a treat. Didn't see a human being all weekend. Perfect weather and The Edge has everything you need. I can't wait to come back. Jack the Dog and I had the most relaxing weekend. Loved the walking paths. Sunrises and sunsets can't be beat. Host was incredibly accommodating.

This little cabin was perfect for a couple of 70 somethings looking for the hiking opportunities in nearby state parks and wanting a place to camp without sleeping on the ground. We enjoyed meeting Edward and learning about his future plans for the place. We found him to be a genuinely welcoming host.
