Sunshine Motel Rustic Camping

Has nature been calling your name?  Test your love of nature at Sunshine Motel and Cabin’s rustic campground.  Nestled in the back of the cabins and up a small hill lay three rustic campsites.    These campsites are available for rent; perfect for the Eco Tourist, and not for the faint of heart.  When we say rustic, it is rustic.  No utilities or facilities (toilet not) provided.   Toilet paper if needed. Parking is in a different spot; all sites are walk up. Please be aware that vehicle camping is not allowed on property.   

Currently there is a communal fire pit, as well as fire pits on each site. Private picnic tables and communal tables surround the grounds. Additionally, each site is provided with a trash can and BBQ grill. 

Along with our large campsites there is a yard for the kids to play and access to our private beach. Many other trails, lakes and rivers are in the area along with several shopping opportunities. Come enjoy all that we at the  Sunshine can offer you.

Our almost 4 acre slice of paradise.   Last stop on the Ontonagon River before Lake Superior.   Public access to Lake Superior is a short walk from our yard.  When there are no burn bans, you can have a fire in our fire pit.  We do have some larger wood available onsite at no charge if you wish to use it.

Note:  There is an active factory next door that has gotten busier and can make a lot of noise.  Daytime noise probably isn't too problematic but it can go on at night too.  Last year we opted to not offer camp sites for this reason.  This year we decided to open up but to make sure guests know the potential.  It is a weld shop so the noise is usually grinding or pounding of a hammer.  In warmer weather, they open the door and it can be noisy for sure...but many have said it is still quieter than where their home is.  Please be sure you are okay with this before booking.

They currently work 5am-3am M-Thu and then a small crew 5am-5pm Fri-Sun.   Friday-Saturday and Sunday are least likely to make noise but it is still possible.

Beach Camp

This little slice of heaven is owned by Doug and April Berg. Located on a beautiful sandy beach on Lake Superior. West of Ontonagon, MI, located on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

This premium Lake Superior waterfront property has 200 feet of sandy shoreline, a flat grassy lot and marsh framed by large pine, cedar and birch trees for privacy from neighbor cabins and breathtaking beach sunsets! Beach comb, build a driftwood fire, or hang your hammock and watch the waves on this majestic lake. Miles of shoreline to walk or snowshoe in the winter. Great base camp for all the adventure the UP has to offer! Close to the Porcupine Mountains, ski resorts, and cross country, snowshoe, mountain bike and snowmobile trails.

Gichi-Gami Christmas Tree Farm

We own a 39 acre property on the east side of Ashland, WI.  There are three primitive/walk in (no water available, no facilities, no tables) campsites available and a couple of trails.  More trails to come. Enjoy the night sky as many, many stars are visible.  The property is mostly wooded and can be wet in spots during the spring. You are allowed walk the site off trail at your own risk. 

Please park your vehicle as close to one side of the driveway as possible as not to block the driveway so if needed the tower company has access to the tower. 

Please do not walk in the cleared area near the front of the property to the right of driveway/access road, as this area has been planted with Christmas tree saplings.  

There is a dedicated campfire square in the site.  Please do not burn outside of this area. There is plenty of dead and down firewood to collect in the nearby woods – some may need to cut to size.

There are no garbage cans on site, so please pack out what you pack in.

Hike to the sites:

Campsite 1 – Near County Highway A – just past gate. Large enough for two 4 person tents

Campsite 2 – From gate - .10 mile hike – large enough for a 4 person tent

Campsite 3 – From gate - .13 mile hike – large enough for a 3 person tent

So that you are aware:  Hipcamp will be adding a "service fee" (15-20%) when you complete the booking to cover their site management and other things.  I don't get any of this service fee and they also take an additional 10% from the price I list to cover the $1 million in insurance for you.

Innumerable beautiful hiking and nature walks surround our site, including Wisconsin's treasured Van Vliet 400 acre Hemlock Preserve - one of the largest old-growth Hemlock forests in the country.   We are just one hour south of the Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park.

Docking is included for campers and available for non-campers at a daily rate. Our site is situated on one of the most prized lakes for muskie fishing.
