RV campers are welcomed to our beautiful 10-acre grounds at the Sanilac County Historic Village and Museum. At this time, we do not allow tent campers.
Campers are invited to use our two large communal bonfire pits. Firewood is available for purchase. Advance notice is recommended.
Guest WIFI is available in and near the Mansion but does not reliably connect to our camping areas.
Here you will find beauty, quiet, and privacy. Be sure to wander our brick/stone path and nature trail that combine to make a one-mile walking path around the grounds. You'll enjoy bridges, swings and benches to rest awhile, a boardwalk, a fairy garden, 14 flower gardens, birds and wildlife, and lots more! The path also winds past each of our 17 historic buildings and the 1942 U.S. Army Troop Train.
Tour the beautiful Loop-Harrison Mansion, celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2022. Enjoy a live performance at the Barn Theatre on Friday and Saturday evenings. Take a unique tour of Port Sanilac in our 1917, open-air Model T or horse and carriage.
We are located within walking distance of beautiful Lake Huron, including a lakeside park, beach, harbor, and break wall. Check out the live music at the harbor park every Saturday during the summer months. The historic Port Sanilac Lighthouse (tours offered on Fridays) is also within walking distance, as well as restaurants, bars, and shopping.

Private One-Acre Campsite Near the Beach
Enjoy a peaceful and affordable escape just minutes from Lake Huron with this one-acre private campsite in Au Gres, Michigan. When you book, you get the entire property to yourself—no other campers. The space is clearly marked with pink boundary flags and includes three roomy areas perfect for pitching tents, parking an SUV, or setting up a small campervan. Pop-up campers can fit, but space is tight and better for simple setups.
The front of the property is grassy and open, while the rear features a wooded section with a short walking path. Behind the site is a larger wooded parcel that isn’t part of the Hipcamp, but it adds to the secluded, natural feel.
Just a 4–5 minute walk brings you to a quiet public access point to Lake Huron. The road dead-ends at private homes, and between them is a public footpath to the beach. Before the shoreline, you'll find a small 20-yard-wide wooded area where our guests can set up chairs and enjoy the view—feel free to walk beyond to the sandy beach as well. While the campsite isn’t totally secluded—there are a few nearby homes and occasional daytime traffic—you’ll still enjoy full privacy on your acre with room to unwind, make a fire, and relax under the stars.
This spot is best for couples or small groups looking for a low-key beach getaway close to nature and just 10 minutes from the shops and restaurants of Au Gres and Tawas City.

We recommend it although not highly. Kind of a cool setting if you’re into old timey museum type places. It’s great for a quick stopover point. Location was nice, we were the only people there (late season trip) so it was very quiet. Port Sanilac is a great little town.

Stumbling across this bunkhouse online was the best thing that could've happened! I just wish I found it sooner in the summer! My husband and I had the most wonderful time. The hosts are the most wonderful, gracious, and kind people! I cannot wait to return to enjoy their beautiful cabin and company again!

Weekend Trip to Jacs bunkhouse
My husband and son spent a weekend at Jac's bunkhouse and absolutely loved it. The beach is less than a minute's walk and the area is beautiful. They enjoyed making fire and grilling some steaks on the provided fire pit and Webber. Bed was soft as a cloud and the house was neat and clean with everything they needed. They loved it and I might have to head that way to experience it for myself.

Quiet, nearest neighbor was 80 yards away. This is like a miniature greenfield village. It is clean and well kept, with fun little walking trails to explore. For an additional fee you can have a guided tour of the historic buildings onsite. I had a wonderful time!

Wonderful venue!! We didn’t realize until we arrived, this is not a “campground“ but a historical village, and you camp on their grounds. The only negative would be that there’s no shower, but that was not a big deal. We went to a play at The Barn Theater onsite - perfect for us theater folk!
We were tempted to leave a bad review so we could have the place to ourselves, but that wouldn’t be fair!! Quiet, beautiful, lots of things to do in the area - what’s not to love?!!

My boyfriend and I stayed at this adorable little cabin in Lexington over Labor Day weekend, and it was absolutely perfect! The cabin itself was so cozy and charming, with all the little details that made it feel welcoming and comfortable. We loved the beach access and beautiful views—it was the perfect spot to relax and take in the peaceful surroundings. It truly felt like a hidden gem, and we couldn’t have asked for a better getaway. We can’t wait to come back!

Becca’s cabin was perfect for our trip. The close access to the private beach was an awesome perk! The cabin was a perfect size for the 2 of us and the outdoor area is awesome to hang out and have a fire. So close to “downtown” Lexington with plenty of things to do and see. We will definitely be back!

My partner and I stayed at Jac's Bunkhouse for a long weekend and had a wonderful stay! Becca was a gracious host and made sure we had everything we needed, allowing us privacy but assuring us she was always available nearby. The property was super cute and cozy, a very small indoor space (bedroom, bathroom, and enclosed patio with a little dining area) but definitely enough for two people. The views in the yard were serene, and the beach was about a minute's walk away. While the place wasn't equipped with a stovetop or oven, it did have a microwave, mini fridge, and coffee maker, and there were plenty of dining options available in town, just a few minutes away. Overall, I'd recommend the Bunkhouse to any solo/duo travelers looking for a peaceful place to relax and get away on the water.

Jac’s bunkhouse was charming and welcoming as soon as you step into the home. You’ve got all the essentials, a microwave, coffee maker, mini fridge, even a charcoal grill and fire pit outside. It’s a cozy private nook surrounded by trees; just steps away from a swim in the lake or a walk along the beach. Walkable to town, with so many options around. Becca was very generous, showed me around, and even fed me a home cooked meal! One of the best hosts I’ve encountered, she also goes above and beyond to make her guests feel more than welcome, and you can feel the love she puts into this little home as soon as you step inside. I would come back here in a heartbeat!

My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary and absolutely loved it. There’s a nice beach down the street and if you don’t like that one the public beach isn’t too far. The beach down the street has plenty of rocks for people who love rock collecting.

Our second stay at the property and as good as ever. We arrived a bit late so we didn’t meet our Host however she provided all the info we required. The site is really amazing with clusters of refurbished heritage buildings. We felt safe and had access to washroom facilities (no showers) which was very convenient. We highly recommend a stay

Weekend Trip to Jacs bunkhouse
We have just had such a lovely stay at Jac's Bunkhouse.
It was a perfect getaway, great location, relaxing, really homely, great attention to detail. The bed was comfortable, everything was fresh and clean, all we needed was there and more.
It was close to the beach, just along the track and down steps to the beach, very close.
From there we walked into Lexington along the beach, great restaurants and cafés. Concert in the park on the Friday evening.
Becca and Jac were such great hosts, communication was super.
We look forward to going back again soon, hope to stay longer next time, there's lots to explore in the area but also it's a great place in itself to unwind and relax

3 nights at Jacs bunkhouse
Short walk to a private beach, a little longer walk to Lexington and more than enough space for two people. The firewood and coffee being provided was an extra bonus!

The lake is really close to the campground, we reserved one spot with sewer line and electrical connection and works great for us. They have bathroom and shower available and they have wood for fire pit for $5.00. Is a great spot to camp with family and or friends.
