Welcome to Big Branch Apiary, a 50 acre honey and blueberry farm north of Lake Pontchartrain. We're bounded by the Big Branch Wildlife Reserve to the south and a Rails to Trails bike path on the north. We are 3 miles from Lacombe to the east, 4 miles from Mandeville to the west, about 3 miles from Fountainbleu State Park, and an hour from New Orleans.
Most of the farm is a mix of hardwood forest and wetlands. Desert Bayou and East Branch Bayou meander across the property. The farm has deer, foxes, bobcats, owls, fireflies, otters, raccoons, turtles, and, well, about anything common to the wilds of the Gulf South. This includes a litany of snakes, mosquitoes, and deer flies in season. About 8 acres are used to raise poultry, bees and organically farmed blueberries. Overall, the land feels primordial and pristine.
We are a designated Monarch Waystation and in the spring and fall see many migrating butterflies. We cultivate a lot of flowers so almost year round you can see butterflies in profusion. We are part of the USDAs Conservation Stewardship Program, concentrating on protecting and increasing habitat for animals and pollinators.
Pets are welcome but please leash them.
Campfires are allowed except on rare occasions. You can hunt for deadfalls in the woods on the farm, or we can provide firewood for a small fee. Our honey, fresh eggs, and homemade sourdough can be purchased as well.
This is a rustic situation: think dry camping, outdoor (heated) shower, and outhouses. We have a tiny treehouse, an A-frame, a glamping tent, and several places to pitch a tent. The farm is pretty secure--someone is on-site most of the time, it's gated, and there are security cameras at access points. But it is a farm in a rural community--you may hear roosters crow, sheep bleat, dogs bark, and the sounds of owls, hawks, coyotes, and other native wildlife.

Stayed here with my motorhome for a few days around New Year’s. Gated grounds with cameras made it feel safe even though the surrounding neighborhood seems a bit rough.
The park was clean, some nice from trains at night, and appeared well maintained. Easy access for RVs.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, just what you need after a long day of driving.
There is a bus stop nearby, which makes it fairly easy to get to the French Quarter and downtown without having to drive yourself. Overall, it is a reasonably priced and practical place to stay with a motorhome if you want secure parking and decent standards a short distance outside the city center.

I loved my stay at Kat’s little oasis in such a prime location, she went above and beyond during my stay. I am grateful for the time we got to chat, I found her easy to talk to, appreciated her knowledge on the area, local insight and community mindset.
Being at the 8 month mark of living in a camper, I can’t describe how incredible it was to have access to all the amenities!
Not to mention, she has a dog- what more could you ask for?
This was a mildly difficult space to get into as a truck and camper, granted- it was dark and I was by myself- but absolutely doable, and worth it.

The buzzing of bees, birds singing (and roosters crowing) and the quiet bleating of sheep are the only sounds you will hearing while sitting in the shade next to your beautiful canvas tent. We had an amazing time in New Orleans and it started with Kat's cozy campsite! We were amazed at the beauty of her plants surrounding the seating area. Very peaceful and conveniently close to a lot of the attractions. Already looking forward to staying there again! Had 30 amp electricity and water for our camper. Our camper measures roughly 22ft long by 9ft tall on the edges by 7ft wide for reference.

We booked this place as we wanted to be close to New Orleans but not pay New Orleans prices! This place is a hidden GEM! It's no resort but has full hookups and is located in a small fishing "village" just 28 miles east of New Orleans. Bradley was a gracious and thoughtful host and offered to move us to a bigger and more private spot (site 12) once we arrived. Unfortunately, we did not have time to take advantage of his fishing charters as he also offers fishing excursions from his boats located just across the street! We will back back!

Kat is a thoughtful host. The yard is nice, lush with elephant ear and fig trees. Location is great. Easy to bus to the French quarter and walk the dog along the Mississippi. Also the yard is fully fenced, so my dog could have outdoor time in total safety.
We have a 3/4 ton truck and a 17' trailer. The street is narrow, so just getting lined up took some doing and backing in through the gate was tricky for us. It was a tight squeeze and we were unable to manoeuvre our door far from the fence because of this. If your set up is any bigger than ours, I'd recommend communicating with Kat first before booking. If your rig fits, you're good to go!

Weekend Trip to Big Branch Apiary
Enjoyed my stay so much last week that I booked another stay this weekend. I cannot say I enough how much I love staying at this property! Cheri is great and every other camper I've encountered is friendly. The Bayou Tent is fantastic and the bed is so comfortable. Being able to sit out front and eat at the table while still being under a shade is wonderful. I love this property and will be back soon.

My family had a brief, but magical visit at Big Branch Apiary. Our host, Cheri, was simply wonderful and welcoming. Our two children, ages 7 and 5, did not want to leave the property as there was so many animals and areas to explore. We’ll definitely return for a longer visit next time.

Great fenced place in an outstanding jumping off point for exploring the city. The French Quarter is a bike ride away, and during the constant event parking prices, the camp itself is the least expensive place to park, as well as stay. It is great for smaller campers.
