We had such a wonderful three-night stay! The hosts were absolutely exceptional—so welcoming and kind that by the time we left, it felt like we were saying goodbye to friends. They went above and beyond, even providing toys and activities for our 15-month-old, which made the trip extra special for her. The amenities were fantastic, from the well-equipped outdoor kitchen to their thoughtful help with a few things we had forgotten to pack. The campsite itself was private and beautifully maintained, with peaceful trails to walk and explore right from our spot. Our toddler loved playing with the fun animals on the property and had the best time, and honestly, so did we. This was such a memorable trip, and we’re so grateful to have found such amazing hosts!

What an incredible property and host! The site was well maintained and secluded from the other sites. There is a “common area” with the kitchen, table and chairs, and the shower close by. Everything you need for cooking up a meal is provide. The outdoor shower is to die for! The free range animals were so cool and my favorite part of this experience. There is a cute coffee shop and bookstore that is 10 minutes away in Buchanan, MI. The only thing I wasn’t expecting was that our car was not parked near our campsite. Expect to park at the front of the property and then Anne or Jonathan will trailer your camping gear and bags back to your site for you. This wasn’t a big deal at all for us, but if you are expecting your car to be next to your site to air up a mattress or something, it may just throw off your plans. I would 100% book with Anne again. Also she was so sweet to talk to and gave us fresh eggs from her chickens!

Campsite was as described and had lots of privacy out in the woods. Anne hauled our gear out to the site with her mower trailer which was really helpful! While site 1 is a ways from the outhouse, let me tell you, that is the cleanest nicest smelling porta potty I’ve ever encountered! We forgot bug spray but thankfully Anne had some to share. :) Enjoyed dinner at Mccollum’s (those Brussels sprouts are fire!) in nearby Buchanan. Would recommend Gypsy Camp for sure.

I really can't say enough good things about this camp site and especially about Annie and Jonathan.
We found this absolute GEM when all other campsites at Warren Dunes were reserved. The biggest problem was getting the kids to leave here to go to the beach at Warren Dunes for the day! They have a playset area and power wheels that the kids could not get enough of cruising them around the property.
We ran into problem after problem on our trip. First, one of our two vehicles developed a problem on the trip there. I was able to fix this and Jonathan was happy to letting me use his tools freely to fix the issue so we could drive safely home. I lost my OBD reader in the process and they have been going above and beyond to try and find it.
There was a thunderstorm the first night we camped and one of our tents leaked. The first thing in the morning Annie offered their personal washer and dryer to wash and dry a bag of clothes that got soaked.
Jonathan brought out amazing coffee every morning in their awesome outdoor kitchen.
The outdoor shower was nothing short of spectacular. I don't think I have ever experienced an outdoor shower before and I would imagine this one spoiled us as to what a standard outdoor shower would consist of.
The porta potty was in better shape and smelled better than any gas station restroom I have ever used.
When I hear the phrase Glamping, these campsites are exactly what I imagine. We could not be more grateful for the best camping experience!

We had the best time at Gypsy camp! Anne & family were incredibly generous hosts and went above & beyond sharing their lovely property with us. Highlights were the amazing outdoor shower and the magical firefly show in the trees surrounding our tent at night. Hope to come back someday - 10/10 recommend!

Annie and Jonathan were the kindest hosts (LGBTQ friendly 💗) with an amazing property! The site is extremely private and tucked back in the woods, the hosts were amazing and hauled our equipment on their tractor to and from the site. The bathroom is a short walk away from the site and was very clean. Highlight of the trip was the mini pig Kevin Bacon, Pearl the puppy, and Chicky Minaj the chicken. We will absolutely be back for camping again!

Where to go
Chicago Surrounds
Head two hours west of Mishawaka to Chicago for a traditional slice of deep-dish pizza, renowned architecture, and a legendary jazz scene. Rent a kayak and explore the Chicago River, or explore 26 miles of lakefront with dozens of sandy beach spots surrounding Lake Michigan. Nearby are plenty of full-service RV campgrounds featuring shower facilities and flush toilets.
Harrison Lake State Park
Hunt waterfowl, take a swim, or catch fresh fish for dinner at Harrison Lake State Park. Just over the state border in Ohio, Harrison Lake State Park is roughly two hours east of Mishawaka. Scoop up a lakefront cabin for easy access to waterfront activities including the 150-foot beach. A launch ramp is available for motorized boats, or rent a pedal boat, kayak, canoe, paddleboard, or power boat instead. Book reservations online up to six months in advance to get a pet-friendly campsite that offers electricity. Winter camping is also available and is great for sledding at the east end of the lake, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing.
Potato Creek State Park
With a 327-acre lake surrounded by forests and wetland areas, Potato Creek State Park delivers plenty of outdoor activities. Stop by the Nature Center to learn about the area before biking the paved 3.2-mile trail. Cross-country skiing, snow tubing, and ice fishing are popular in winter, while fishing on one of the three piers on Worster Lake is a huge draw in summer. Rent a cabin nearby or pitch a tent in an off-grid campsite to get first dibs on canoe, kayak, and rowboat rentals.
When to go
Mishawaka offers four distinct seasons and outdoor activities that are popular year-round. Freezing temperatures in December, January, and February create great conditions for cross-country skiing and ice fishing. June, July, and August see the highest temperatures of the year—around 77°F—for water activities and hiking. The off-seasons run from March until May and from September until late November, with smaller crowds and cooler weather.
