Moon Garden Farm is a 25 acre farm, located off Highway 11 near the town of Mountain View. Beautiful views of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa are visible on clear sunny days. The 1500 foot elevation gives a great view of the ocean as well. Mountain View is located between beautiful, quaint Hilo and the spectacular Volcano National Park, each about 15 miles in either direction. Goat With The Flow Farm

2 sites · Tents6 acres · Pahoa, HI
Puna District has a rich history. It is the youngest land in all the Hawaiian Islands, thanks to the ongoing eruption of the volcano, Kilauea. Ancient Hawaiian tales place Puna District as the home of the Hawaiian goddess Pele. After western occupation, native Hawaiian trees were commercially logged out of the area to be used as railroad ties and shipped off-island. The land was then converted to commercial sugar cane production here in Kaohe Homesteads, as was most of Puna.  Goat With The Flow Farm sits at 1100 ft. elevation in the upper Hawaiian rainforest. Our average rainfall is over 100 inches per year. We are uniquely situated a mere .5 miles from the infamous "June 27 Flow" active lava breakout that threatened Pahoa Town in 2014. The active lava flow made its way through Kaohe Homesteads, prompting most of the farms and homes in the area to evacuate. Our property, which was for sale at the time, sat vacant while everyone waited to see when (or if) the flow would cease. The flow DID stop and the National Guard left in February 2015. We purchased the land in November 2015. Goat With The Flow Farm is now a developing 6.25-acre homestead and goat farm. We use goats for milk, packing/hiking, pets, jungle control, sales and ethically-raised meat. Other than goats, we grow many local staples: taro/kalo, sweet potato/uala, cassava, sugar cane, squash, beans, greens, and the list continues to grow. Our fruit trees are still young but (in season) wild guava of both the yellow and red variety are plentiful as is the lilikoi (Hawaiian passionfruit). We regularly make goat cheese, yogurt, kefir, caramels, lilikoi syrup & fudge with milk from our goats. We believe in regenerative, permaculture-inspired methods of land stewardship and care of livestock. Old sugar cane roads are now the foundation of GWTFs grassy trail system and forested fence lines. On a clear day, you can see Mauna Kea. If you stand on the top of the barn (not recommended) you can see the ocean. Sunsets on the farm are often breathtaking. Ohia trees gather in the landscape and we, in hopes to preserve this beloved native tree, are thankful for every new sprout. Learn more about this land:Relax in the rainforest! Cabriole with caprines! At 1100 ft elevation, cool nights and brilliant starry skies await your Hawaii Island camping experience. Sweet & simple with all the basics! Eclectic & rejuvenating, we share our 6 acre, off-grid, subsistence-style, growing homestead with those who want to camp in comfort and safety, while visiting our beautifully diverse island. We focus on regenerative practices in a permaculture-style, modified agroforestry/silvopasture system. We focus on: pack goats, dairy goats, pet goats, land clearing goats, and the occasional meat goat. We have about 10-20 goats at any given time. Our child friendly, naturally horned goats love to take long walks & some are even available as hiking companions! Sorry, no yoga goats. Peaceful property, beautiful songbirds, sightings of the pueo and iio (Hawaiian owls & hawk) are common. Private clearings in forest, orchard or (camp with goats!) pasture are available for your tent. Our permaculture style gardens provide edible landscapes tucked in alongside grassy paths, young fruit trees and mature guavas. Produce and farm-made items are often available to our guests on a "pay-what-it's-worth" system.A working homestead, you will find a real "Farm to Face" experience. It is the rainforest, so it rains ALMOST every day; we are blessed with heavy dew each night, regardless of rain forecast so be prepared for damp. That being said, the sun also shines ALMOST every day. #norainnorainbows Tarps available for added rain canopy during the worst weather. HOT SHOWER! Our pleasing outdoor shower is Hawaiian Rainwater-fed, birdsong-accompanied, open-skied, private, comfortable and big enough for two (or three!) You may reserve our large tub for hot soaking- small extra charge & dependent on rainfall/water availability.) Coqui frogs are in abundance and as THE LOUDEST FROG IN THE WORLD, if the temperature is above 17C (63F) they will serenade you all night long at 70+decibels. Bring earplugs if you sleep light. Our unique, secure and safe location offers a feeling of being a world away yet unbelievably close to all amenities: only 3 miles from Pahoa Town.

TreeHouse in canopy of trees

1 site · Lodging3 acres · Mountain View, HI
Learn more about this land:Aloha,I built the treehouse to be a very romantic hideaway for myself and my honey, and now that I'm renting it out, the couples and families who have stayed here, including many honeymooners have appreciated the romance of the setting and ambiance. (In fact, we had considered calling it KamaSutreehouse when setting up the website!.) It's not just romantic though it's really fun for the kids. The setting is so private, surrounded by such natural beauty that one cannot help but be inspired. My favorite romantic details are the fireplace and the bed perched high up in the loft where you're surrounded by windows looking out at the moon and stars at night and native trees, birds and cloud formations by day, the low ceilinged double futon bed approached by inside later ( which is mostly for kids) and also accessible by crawling under the Master Bed ( about 5 feet up). The Sky-Walk 90 feet out into the forest is the latest whimsical and fun additions. The location is great it's very private and quiet, hidden in the rainforest yet it's only 3 miles from Volcano Village and 5 miles from the park entrance. Some guests a never leave the Treehouse. The TreeHouse is at 2860 feet above sea level, plus 20 ft. for the TreeHouse, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is at a little over 4000 feet above seas level for the viewing of the glow from the vent at a mile distance, on the edge of the crater. For the most comprehensive information about the island and local area, I recommend the book, The Big Island Revealed. The main attraction locally, of course, is Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the hiking thru lava fields, lava tubes and even across the floors of craters. Volcano Village is well known as a premier artist colony and is home to many scientists, as well. Hilo is 25 miles away and has many attractions, including a new, state of the art astronomy museum that shouldn't be missed. And of course the Island is surrounded by beautiful blue ocean and all the activities that go with that.

Camp on the rich and power lava flats of the the big island! This lava plot next to the famed lava temple has very basic services. It is close to Pahoa, Uncle Robert’s Night Market, Kalani resort and many magical and hidden treasures of the newest land on earth!Since a spectacular and dramatic trip to big Island a few years back I have had hot lava, the sweetness of the people, food and the power of Maunakea running through my veins.  Equally charming and magical was my incredible host Jade who has made an off the grid home on the lava in Kalapana Gardens. If she is not overbooked, I highly recommend staying with her for at least a couple of nights.  If you stay on my adjacent lava plot in my Eurovan or in your tent or vehicle then you may be able to make arrangements to attend one of her deeply soulful ceremonies.  Other magic in the region may be revealed!Learn more about this land:Camp on the rich and power lava flats of the the big island!
