The best camping near Kihei with campfires

·
Kihei is like a Hawaii postcard come to life. Turquoise seas lap at white-sand beaches, and palm trees frame jungle-covered hills. A short drive away, you can surf Lahina or hike Haleakala National Park. Camping is the perfect way to experience Kihei and stay close to the action. For the closest West Maui camping sites, head to Papalaua Beach Park. Sleep on the sand next to the ocean; many spots are shaded for comfort. Or, hop on the Hana Highway and camp at Kanaha Beach Park near Kahului. Be sure to get a permit before tent camping at one of Maui’s beach parks. At Waiʻanapanapa State Park, choose from cabins and sites with picnic tables. Here, you can go birding, hike the Hawaiian coast, or fish in the sea just steps from camp. Inside Haleakala National Park, hike to one of two backcountry campgrounds. The park also has two drive-up campgrounds: Hosmer Grove and Kipahulu. The best part of camping near Kihei is the weather. Temperatures tend to stay in the 70s and 80s for most of the year. Bring rain gear and light layers for higher-elevation camping.

We are a 5th generation family farm on the slopes of Haleakala, just a 3 mile drive up from historic Makawao town. Our great grandfather purchased a 40 acre ranch in 1957 as his retirement, homestead dream. With rolling hills of pastures, our farm is the ideal location for a secluded camping getaway with ocean views and Maui. Sadly, our property was hit severely by the August 2023 fires caused by downed electric lines. Your support of camping on our family farm helps us recover little by little and help us maintain such a huge responsibility of weeding invasive trees and weeds, along with repairs and fence building after so much loss.

🌺 Off-Grid Ocean Oasis on a Regenerative Maui Farm 🌺 Welcome to our slice of paradise—where the mountains meet the sea, and wild abundance surrounds you. Watch wild deer wander past as you sip coffee under the mango trees. 🏄‍♀️ Crave adventure? Grab a kayak, surfboard, or fishing rod and hit the waves. 🥾 Prefer stillness? Hike to sacred petroglyphs or follow the nearby stream—one of the last running freshwater sources on the west side. 🌈 Curious soul?
