Lathrop State Park (2 lakes), the Spanish Peaks Medical Center Hospital and the Walsenburg Golf Course are only 5 minutes from the lot. You can drive to the Great Sand Dunes Park in about an hour.  Here on the ranch land you can hike, bike, 4-wheel, ride your horses, snowmobile and watch the deer and the antelope play. Hunter's are welcome, but not on the ranch land. There is hunting and fishing on State Trust Lands and Wildlife Areas here in Huerfano County. You'll have clear views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, The Spanish Peaks, Silver Mountain (AKA Baldy), Sheep and Little Sheep Mountains and Greenhorn Mountain...  Not to mention star filled skies... Cedar Hills Oliva Ranch is a 105-acre ranch with nine 11.6-acre campsites, each of them on beautiful and varying heights and terrain, with a secluded feel as each is located out of view from the other campsites. They are excellent for "primitive" camping year-round, and comprise wildlife (deer, elk, bear, hawks, antelope, etc.), grassy meadows, cedar-covered hills both gradual and steep, sandstone rock formations, seasonal white sand arroyos, and the occasional cattle wandering through. Because of its southern Colorado geography, snow typically does not accumulate deeper than 3"-4", even in the deepest winter months, so it makes camping just as easy and pleasant from November through March. Each campsite has its own character and unique views of nature, so nine camping trips on each of our sites will feel different from the previous adventure, each presenting a distinctly intimate feel. Additionally, a great benefit of Cedar Hills Oliva Ranch is while campers may enjoy deafening silence and see every star in the Milky Way Galaxy on a clear night, just 10 minutes from the ranch south on CR 69 lies a 24-hour gas station and three fast food restaurants. From there, another 5 minutes south, is the historic town of Walsenburg, where you may find expanded restaurant choices, a Safeway, and hardware store for other provisions - and more! In case of a "medical mishap," Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center is approximately 18 minutes from any of our campsites, and open 24 hours. Lastly, while not visible from the ranch, a new cell tower was erected approximately 2 miles northeast and is very reliable from anywhere on the ranch when having a clear view of the eastern horizon. We look forward to hosting you and your fellow campers at Cedar Hills Oliva Ranch. It is beautiful, private and secluded, and provides a great environment for all ages and levels of spirit. Cedar Hills Oliva Ranch is a 105-acre ranch with nine 11.6-acre campsites, each of them on beautiful and varying heights and terrain, with a secluded feel as each is located out of view from the other campsites. They are excellent for "primitive" camping year-round, and comprise wildlife (deer, elk, bear, hawks, antelope, etc.), grassy meadows, cedar-covered hills both gradual and steep, sandstone rock formations, seasonal white sand arroyos, and the occasional cattle wandering through. Because of its southern Colorado geography, snow typically does not accumulate deeper than 3"-4", even in the deepest winter months, so it makes camping just as easy and pleasant from November through March. Each campsite has its own character and unique views of nature, so nine camping trips on each of our sites will feel different from the previous adventure, each presenting a distinctly intimate feel. Additionally, a great benefit of Cedar Hills Oliva Ranch is while campers may enjoy deafening silence and see every star in the Milky Way Galaxy on a clear night, just 10 minutes from the ranch south on CR 69 lies a 24-hour gas station and three fast food restaurants. From there, another 5 minutes south, is the historic town of Walsenburg, where you may find expanded restaurant choices, a Safeway, and hardware store for other provisions - and more! In case of a "medical mishap," Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center is approximately 18 minutes from any of our campsites, and open 24 hours. Lastly, while not visible from the ranch, a new cell tower was erected approximately 2 miles northeast and is very reliable from anywhere on the ranch when having a clear view of the eastern horizon. We brought out wolf pup 16bhsbl travel trailer out to camps the site is huge with plenty of space for 2-3 other families. The directions were easy to follow, however there was one sign that was missing as per the written instructions. One of our party members missed the gate because of the missing sign. The entrance to the camp sign was a little rutted out and you should feel comfortable off roading with a trailer.

While we didn’t get to the crescent with our 20-foot trailer, Nicholas guided us to a very nice, secluded spot that we thoroughly enjoyed. If you like camping in peaceful, private spots, this is it. Lots of birds during the day, a tarantula in the afternoon, and several singing coyotes every evening.

Perfect desert style camping! Bring your own shade! ☀️ Thank you for providing water with large tank for the unbeatable camping bathroom experience! A flush toilet and a HOT shower under the incredible starry skies are unmatched! The lake is a 3 min drive or a small hike away. You cannot swim in this lake but there's plenty of beach and you can still fish and be on-water! The small town aboit 12 mins away is perfect for any last minute or forgotten quick grabs. A perfect get away without getting too far away!

I loved how secluded and quiet the property was without being too far from home. The directions were a bit hard as the rocks painted white blend in when the sun hits them (there is a red dirt road with white rocks outlining it and this is the property immediately after that one). I thought the tent sites were a bit more spread out, but they are all close to each other, so its perfect for large groups renting all 3 spaces. We got lucky and we're the only ones that booked it over the weekend and had a very peaceful and empty site. We definitely will keep this site as a go-to for future camping trips! The host was also accommodating and generous about our trip.

Casa de Santa Maria is a beautiful and unique campsite. With outstanding views of Blanca Peak, Ute Mountain, and Culebra Peak you can stay in camp and be rewarded with eyefuls of beauty. As a base camp it is easy to get away to Great Sand Dunes National Park, or the hot springs in Hooper (Sand Dunes Recreation Hot Springs Pool). There’s great fishing and hiking opportunities along the way to Chama, New Mexico, and just 65 miles away in Taos you can enjoy history, art, and great food. Susan is a fantastic host! You won’t find a better place for a spiritual reset than Casa de Santa Maria!

What an incredibly beautiful location. The directions for very easy to follow and the landmarks to follow easy to spot. The camp site itself was huge, with plenty of trails and dry river beds to follow around. We spent hours wandering looking at rocks, track marks from various animals and the different kinds of vegetation. So much cacti. We saw deer, wild turkeys, and the great wild cow on the ranch next to us. Michael was so easy to communicate with and pleasant to talk to you. We genuinely cannot wait to return and bring our friends for a big family trip.

Dry Creek was a great location for our purposes. Very secluded and quiet. We stayed 5 days and really enjoyed the freedom. Two notes: only hilltop has picnic tables, dry creek does not. i didn’t need one but i was looking for one thinking that would help me find the location. I would caution potential campers that the directions can be a little confusing. The first set of white rocks in the directions were not obvious (potentially my fault for looking too low) they are just before the turn as mentioned but it is a string of rocks at eye level on the right not a pile and not on the road. Secondly after taking that right and going up (it is much less tuna .3 miles) there is a split, go right! then another split where you will see the cable on your right (white rocks definitely obvious here). After that it’s easy but i got turned around convinced i was on the wrong property. Hope the additional directions are helpful to someone else. Again, the site was great once we got there so don’t let the directions dissuade you.
