Blue Tent Grove

1 site · Lodging5 acres · Nevada City, CA
We are excited to share our beautiful retreat with you! We set up this glamping experience to share the beauty and tranquility of our property. Your stay here will be the perfect escape to Nevada City and the magic of the Yuba River. The property is located in the Blue Tent region of Nevada City. The region is a historic 19th century gold mining community that lies on a gold-bearing channel of an ancient river bed. Blue Tent was established in 1850 and named after its first dwelling, a tent made of blue denim. The community thrived, becoming a center for hydraulic mining. Before long, it had its own store, dance hall, blacksmith shop, boarding house and other buildings. Like the other communities in the region that depended on hydraulic mining, Blue Tent began to decline following the 1884 Sawyer decision. A farmer near Sacramento had sued the major mining company in state court to stop it from discharging mining debris into the Yuba River. This debris was destroying farmland downstream. By the early 1890s, the Blue Tent mine was closedLearn more about this land:Inspired by our own experiences traveling and staying in large comfortable bell tents we set out to create a setting we would want to stay in ourselves and share with you.THE PROPERTYThe property is a largely flat and walkable 5 acres to camp and explore. There are a few pieces of furniture including a vintage dresser, a chair and a bedside table. We also have included some battery powered candles to create a relaxed low light environment if needed.THE CAMPSITEThe campsite consists of the tent itself, a fire pit, some camping chairs and a picnic table.BATHROOMFull bathroom in the house which is a short walk from the tent.
