The Yuba Yurt is "glamping", or an idyllic remote working location, at its best. Carefully appointed "simplicity" immersed in Nature, but with stable high speed internet, situated equidistantly between the three forks of the "wild and scenic" Yuba River. Enjoy!

Take in gorgeous scenic drives and numerous points of historical interest--including Malokoff Diggins--from California gold rush period.

Discover the active gold mining town of Allegheny, the scenic beauty of Downieville or soak the afternoon away at Sierra Hot Springs in Sierraville. 

The village of Nevada city--with all it has to offer--is just 20 minutes

away.

As much a nature blind as a dwelling, the yurt is located on 5 peaceful

acres of mixed oak and madrone woodland with a filtered view of the Sierra

foothills, a claw foot bath tub under the stars and much more.

Light and airy with both propane and wood heat, the well-designed interior

features a spacious kitchen, a comfy queen bed and a full bathroom. The kitchen is stocked for a cook with quality cooking equipment and is supplied with oils, sauces and spices. 

Tranquil and rustic, but with WiFi and a small streaming set-up, there are also games and plenty of good books.

THE AREA

RiverSea East is located on the San Juan Ridge, an area near Nevada City and Grass Valley that extends about 24 miles between the south and middle forks of the Yuba River. 

A small Nevada County community far removed from town, modern day North San Juan is part hippie, part isolationist, part new age and part conservative.It's only a 20 minute drive from downtown Nevada City, but since you have to drive up and down the heavily forested, windy river-canyon road, it feels rather remote. When you get there, it consists of less than ten businesses scattered around the mountains, a bushel of dreadlocked hippies, a bunch of pot farms, a vineyard, and LOTS of empty, undeveloped wood, making North San Juan a really beautiful place, surrounded, as it is, by forested mountains and rivers. 

  North San Juan is a great place to explore. There's all kinds of hidden spots, neat places to go, river access with good swimming holes and little stores and cafes. This area is spotted with little organic farms, beautiful little houses and the occasional run-down looking trailer.Farm, house OR trailer, because North San Juan and the Ridge are so sparsely populated, every residence seems to have acres of property that the people are free to plant, enjoy or neglect at will.

PETS: Your well-behaved dog is welcome with advanced permission and agreement to our pet policy for an additional $10.00 per night. As this is a wilderness area with abundant wildlife, do not let your dog wander outside at night unattended. NEVER leave your dog unattended at the yurt or let them roam unleashed in the woods. Neighbors will report dogs who bark incessantly.

PARTIES and extra visitors are not allowed. Quiet time in the neighborhood is 10pm

Yuba River Retreat

This special land is part of a multi-parcel wildlife corridor, helping to provide valuable habitat between the state parks, along the creek and river. Out your doorstep, you'll find more than 15-miles of private, groomed, hiking, biking and horseback riding trails and have an opportunity to reconnect with nature.

Our solar-powered farmhouse overlooks the mountains and an organic orchard and garden, with two queen bedrooms lined with hand-milled sugar pine from the land, strong wifi/tv, waterfalls, and private network of trails to hike or bike. Walk to refreshing creek swimming hole or private Yuba river swimming access available at certain times. Included in your stay is seasonal organic produce to gather out your doorstep in our family's organic garden and hammocks to relax in under the fruit treas and at the creek.

The two bedrooms downstairs have queen beds
handcrafted of sugar pine milled from downed trees from the land and are fitted with organic sheets. Downstairs has a bathroom with tub and shower, living room with mid-century furniture, views of the orchard and a tv for cozy movie nights. Upstairs is a fully-stocked kitchen with gas stove, oven, and all chef's amenities, foldout queen sleeper, bathroom with shower and outdoor table for a sunset dinner. Cool mountain air refreshes your nights or feel the luxury of air conditioning on a hot summer afternoon. After a relaxing day in the mountains, perhaps star gaze from the patio or orchard.

To get to the sandy beach and creek spot, called Barkhouse Beach, take an easy stroll through the forest. The nearby Barkhouse, close to the creek, is a reconstruction of a typical Maidu Indian dwelling. Walk inside to experience the traditional history of this land.

Or cool off in the Yuba River at the South Yuba River State Park, just a 5-minute drive from the farmhouse. Ask about accommodating additional guests.

I’ve had the pleasure to be the “caretaker” of this special land once inhabited by the Maidu Indians for the past 43 years. This is SPECIAL ground here and I’m sure you will feel the MAGIC!!!

This 40 acres sits on the Yuba River Ridgetop. At the "Platform of Pleasure" you will enjoy 100,000+ acre views of protected land looking North to the High Sierra, minutes away from downtown Nevada City and 8-10 miles from Yuba River Trailheads. 

Firewood bundles are $15 per bundle (2+ hours of campfire when campfires 🔥 are allowed).

There is a $10.00 dog fee per dog/per stay. 

On our property like anywhere in the woods

there are mosquitos, so you should bring bug spray.

We offer a tent platform, as well as a canvas tent listing.

Privacy & what to expect: Property is usually very quite & overlooks hundreds of acres of forest looking toward the Snow-capped Sierras in the Winter and Spring.

We are located in a neighborhood (Alta Sierra- in between Auburn & Grass Valley). We ask that everyone uses soft voices since we are in a canyon and sound travels to a few houses that are our neighbors.

There are 3 Hipcamp sites on property, so we could have up to 6 guests in a weekend. The main farmhouse is 4500 square feet and hosts 2-4 Culinary Students or Professionals that may be on site.
There is a Culinary Classroom, Upper and Lower Deck & Gardens

to enjoy. If you have teenagers, they love it here! 1/2 Basketball court, cooking & foraging classes.

This Cozy Love Shack
sleeps 2-4 adults/kids. (190 square feet) 1 King Bed with Floor Futon & single bed. It's about 200 feet from main farm house.
The unit has basic electricity, a solar light & mini frig. Sun warmed (luke-Warm) camping shower available. Approx 190 square feet. Toilet is a composting bucket with wood chips.

The
 main farmhouse (owner's residence) has

a beautiful 75 x 15 foot redwood deck with views of the Sierras &
Foothills. Enjoy a Happy Hour, Gourmet Farm-fresh meal, picnic
or play a game in the shaded couch area. There are 2 large tables
 for dining & couches for relaxing.

We have organic demonstration gardens & orchard that you can stroll or you can book an educational tour & tasting for a more in depth understanding of the culinary & medicinal plants.
Fresh chicken & duck eggs are usually available.
Great place for kids & adults to learn about organic gardening & sustainable living.

Nearby Attractions to research: Historic Grass Valley, Nevada City and Auburn (Lots of Wine-tasting &
Local Wineries). The Beautiful South Yuba River or Bear River is a must-experience
(25 min drive), Scott's Flat Lake & Lakes off of Hwy 20 (30-60 minutes),
 Trails for Mountain Biking & Hiking,
Lake Tahoe, Truckee and Donner Lake (1 hour 15 min drive). Empire Mine.

- If you'd like to bring along your pet, we are happy to accommodate.
Please add on the "pets" extra when you are completing your booking. This covers our pet cleaning fee. This is a must in order to bring your pet.

The Pioneer Trail is a 5-minute walk from the cabin. It's 25 mile long trail that weaves through dense forests and ice cold rivers, with sweeping views and complete privacy. On our 10-mile run, we didn't bump into a single person.

Victoria Forest

This area is part of a rich history showcasing the westward expansion, gold mining and simple pursuits. Just step outside the cabin to access miles of single track through the Tahoe national forest, or jump in your car to access lakes, rivers and streams within a 10 minute drive. Snowboarding and; skiing is a 25 minute drive away and snowshoeing and; cross country skiing can start right off the front deck!

Come relax in your own private off grid cabin with a cozy loft and a view of Tahoe National Forest. At just over 5,000 feet in elevation and a dirt road drive Muir's Muse is the perfect place to disconnect.

A three minute walk will get you to the Pioneer Trail which is a 25 mile non-motorized trail meandering through Tahoe National Forest, Bear Valley, and mountain lakes at its terminus. Open to hikers, bicyclists, equestrians and all lovers of the outdoors, the adventures are endless!

Although there is cell service, there is no electricity or running water. There is an outdoor fire ring, a pit toilet on site and a portable heater and small camp stove for you to use... Just bring your own small propane canisters.

You will be sent an informational e-mail (not the one generated from Hipcamp) prior to arriving. This email outlines directions and local hiking/swimming holes etc., PLEASE check the email you provided to Hipcamp (and myself) PRIOR to leaving for your trip so you are best prepared! :)

The cabin has a great little deck that gets tons of sun. (And at night it makes for a good stargazing platform!)

The big cabin windows get direct sunlight in the afternoon. You wouldn't expect there to be as much light as there is, considering you're in the middle of the woods.

The loft sleeps two people comfortably, and has a great view of the site.

Towering trees make the cabin look miniature.
