Overview
Biking
Come for both road and mountain because Buescher State Park has enough room to take a spin on both. A scenic 12 mile paved road connects Buescher State Park to neighboring Bastrop State Park, but the windy route is suggested for experienced riders. Within Buescher, you’ll find nearly eight miles of epic trails that weave through ancient elms and pines.
Boating
Buescher State Park Lake, while small, is incredibly scenic. Non-motorized vehicles are permitted on water, but keep in mind that there aren’t any official put-ins or ramps. Feel free to peruse the calm waters by kayak or canoe—rentals are available at the lake.
Fishing
The stocked lake at Buescher State Park is the perfect Saturday morning escape. While motorized boats aren’t permitted on the lake, feel free to cast a line from the shore or from your canoe! You’ll find largemouth bass, sunfish, trout, and two species of catfish within the 15-acre lake. The best part? No fishing license required!
Hiking
Spend the weekend exploring eight miles of trails within Buescher State Park. The route passes through old-growth forests of cedar elm and pine, so the shade will certainly keep you cool on those sweltering Texas summer days. While portions of the park were damaged in a recent wildfire, you can still enjoy the scenery on the Big Tree Retreat Trail, CCC Crossover Trail, and the Winding Woodland Trail.
Paddling
Take a leisurely paddle through Buescher State Park Lake’s 12-acres of refreshing cool water. You’ll particularly enjoy the calm waters considering motorized boats aren’t permitted. Don’t have your own kayak or canoe? No problem! Rentals are readily available at the lakeside.
Wildlife watching
Search through the elms, pines, and mystical spanish moss for a glimpse at one of the 250 species of birds that make their home within Buescher State Park. On the ground, you’ll find white tail deer, bobcats, racoons, and a Texas classic: armadillos.
