Thunderbird Lodge Retreat

Unique place. Peaceful. Had so much fun making movies with all the unique antiquities there. Plenty of room and had everything we needed for cooking dinner. Free firewood which was great for the firepit and potbelly heater. Night sky with millions of stars and milky way--awesome! Brought our toy hauler, dirt bikes, quad, and side-by-side. Rode every day. Felt so free there. We try to go somewhere new every Thanksgiving from luxury to roughing it so they kids can learn and see different things. This place was history with modern art. Not glamping, not camping, not luxury however there is truth there. One of the most unique places we've stayed and lots of teaching experiences for the kids.

We had a wonderful stay at the Mountain House cabin. Excellent location with a view out across the desert, well-stocked kitchen, and giant alien chairs...what more could one want?

Gorgeous and serene spot

Beautiful patch of desert, lots of privacy, comfortable beds and wacky design touches that my 5 year old loved. Perfect for a family, we used all the games they had on hand. Very clean and lots of little touches like the battery powered faux candles that came in handy when a thunderstorm briefly took out the power. Lori texted back immediately when I had any questions. We’ll be back for sure!

Great location w/ Western backdrop

The Western town on the property was a ton of fun for our kids. It's got a saloon with incredible views, as well as a old-West "dentist" and jail. The kids played for hours. Joshua Tree is nearby. Can set up tents right in the backyard, or just enjoy the property and firepit. Beautiful views and close to Joshua Tree.

A Wonderful Western Weekend

An absolute blast - booked to celebrate my birthday and it was the perfect setting. Tons of space for tents and adventuring. The property is bigger than we imagined. Cozy beds in big rooms and the bunk house was a plus. We want to come back asap!!

Fun Western 30th Bday Weekend

Six of us had a blast celebrating my daughter's 30th birthday at this property! Very cool having a Saloon with an unbeatable view to play games and drink (sunset pics are amazing from here!). The front porch was perfect for morning coffee & lazy afternoon naps...I could barely get hubby off the couch. The house had very comfortable beds and plenty of towels, blankets, etc. for everyone. Lori was very responsive and made sure we had enough firewood for our stay. We intended to visit Joshua Tree Park but had so much fun we never left the property except to run to Walmart - which is close and had everything we needed. The only a/c is a large wall unit in the main room so make sure you keep it running so the cool air can make its way into the bedrooms. The nights were cool and we slept comfortably. There are several species of birds that have nested on the property and watching them with their babies was wonderful...we even saw a gopher snake in the building attached to the saloon. Use your imaginations and look around - there are fun props and interesting items both inside & out. Our dogs had such a good time they barely moved for 2 days after returning home:)

Staying at Lori's Thunderbird Ranch House and Saloon was such a unique experience. The property is quaint and has its own tiny western town in the backyard. Just past the saloon/town of el dorado are huge Joshua trees, it was amazing to see them upclose! The house was stocked with everything that we needed for our stay.

Perfect place for outdoor lovers!

We had a very fun stay and at the Joshua Tree Rock House! The outdoor area was generous, pretty and quiet. I would recommend the Rockhouse for outdoor and adventure lovers. We loved the big fireplace by the little outdoor cabin and enjoyed two wonderful evenings by the fire place. After our early morning trip to Joshua Tree we came back in the early afternoon and had a wonderful Easter Sunday afternoon in the shade under the cabana and slowly watched the day go by. We were even lucky enough to see two road runners running back and forth in the yard for a while. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need for either a barbeque outside or to cook a nice meal inside. The only two things that we would suggest to improve is that there was some litter left on the lot, two slightly creepy dolls in the outside daybed and one in one of the bedrooms. But we just put the one from the bedroom in the living room on the couch and covered it with a blanket during our stay so it didn't have to freeze at night because it had no clothes on ;)

This listing exceeded all expectations! I used the property to celebrate my birthday and we had everything we could have possibly needed. Was a wonderful place for a large group with ample space for camping and lots of beds as well. Host was extremely helpful whenever we had anything come up. Incredible value.

The Thunderbird Ranch House was amazing! We loved hanging out in the saloon and really appreciated the Wild West theme. The kitchen was fully stocked with anything you need to cook and the house was packed with board games, blankets and towels to make for an extra cozy stay. There was a lot of land to pitch extra tents if needed.

Fun place to stay! Weather was chilly, but the beds were cozy with lots of warm blankets! Had fun exploring the dirt roads on our mountain bikes. The alien decor inside and out at Space Mountain house kept us entertained.

Live Like a Western Movie Star

10 of us took a bouldering trip to Joshua Tree, but only two of us knew the details of our accommodations- we booked this place as a surprise for everyone else and they were DELIGHTED upon arrival! We all felt like John Wayne swashbuckling around the faux town of El Dorado, and we all were enamored with the quirky antique furnishings around the house. We spent every sunset drinking whiskey and playing cards in the saloon. The location is a mere 10 minutes from town and 30 minutes from the heart of the National Park. The house slept most of us comfortably (the pull-out couch is exactly what you would expect of a pull-out couch), and the bathroom fixtures were strong enough to handle all of us. The evaporative cooler and fans effectively provided relief from the desert heat. J Tree offers many unique accommodations to choose from, but if you arrive with an open mind you'll be happy you stayed here because it's unlike anything else!

Perfect for college friends!

We had a big group of 20 college friends here for a little reunion. We loved it! We brought an inflatable pool and easy up which I would definitely recommend. With such a large group, we also brought a couple tents and air mattresses to spread out. It was a little squished, but doable and great for the price!

Awesome view meets quirky vibe

The house was extremely clean and everything we needed was provided! Great to be able to have wifi, cooling, and a shower post-hikes in JT to plan out our days and next hikes. One thing that is tough with JT is that dogs are not allowed on the hiking trails, but they are allowed at Lori’s place and on the dirt roads around JT (right by the house) so we walked our dog along La Contenta and Covington Flat road, which turned our great. The house itself has lots of cool and funky art + trinkets that make it fun to explore. Lastly the view of the mountains and the sunset is incredible and the stars are amazing late at night.

Secluded Stay and Unique Atmosphere

This house was along a dirt road that was a bit hard to traverse in our Model 3, but once we arrived we were stunned by the artwork and configuration. It was abound with alien pieces, broken down objects, and had an overall rundown creepy vibe. There was plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the beautiful starry night sky, and even a clothes hanger. Great opportunity for a desert hike surrounding the property. The only hiccup was the place was double booked through AirBnb by another group, but since we got there first we claimed Mountain House! Would recommend to anyone looking for a unique spin on a desert getaway!

The weekend we stayed was 90 degrees or more but inside the cabin was very comfortable to our surprise which made our stay very enjoyable. We visited Joshua tree during the day and came back at night time with no issues. The drive going to the cabin makes you feel like you are at Joshua tree park because of the scenery and the sunset is very pretty. Fenced in yard for our pups, wifi available, bring your laptop if you feel like watching stuff since no tv here but books and board games galore. Farmers market on saturdays! Keys view point is our favorite spot in Joshua tree if you are going to drive around, saw fox, kangaroo rat and a bunch of road runners:) Lori is easy to reach for questions. Great trip!
