The Painted Lake

Jeremy is an excellent host! On top of it all, responsive, and super helpful and friendly without invading our privacy at all. We loved the lake access (the climb back up is a bit steep on a hot day, but manageable for all our group including small kids), kayaks provided, and the site was really secluded from other campers. The gorgeous guardian dogs were very friendly and hung out with us a bunch (so not good if you don’t like dogs) and we loved the hens and fresh eggs, sheep and goats. There was a good amount of poison oak around, but it wasn’t on main trails or campsites and you could avoid it. Also, mosquitoes were very active at dawn and dusk, so bring repellent! The Lake View site was just big enough to accommodate our five families with large tents and five vehicles, but it was tight and very cosy. Would recommend maximum 4 medium tents and vehicles only, less to be really comfortable and spaced out. Beautiful views over the lake and at sunrise especially!

We had 2 adults and 5 teens stay at Jeremy's, and we all had an amazing time! My husband and I stayed in the cute cabin (air conditioning worked great!) and the kids pitched tents. The view is incredible, and the walk down and back from the reservoir was a good workout. The kids had such a fun time on the water, and we really enjoyed our stay. Jeremy is so nice, and an absolutely fabulous host. He came by a number of times to check and make sure we had everything we need, and he even delivered a dozen fresh eggs our second morning. What a treat! It was nice having the BBQ and the fire pit, and he had an extra tank of propane when we ran out. I am a bit of a nervous driver, and Jeremy even offered to drive my truck back up the road (and I ended up doing it and being perfectly fine). Last, he had great recommendations for restaurants and winetasting nearby. All in all a great trip! Yay!

Lake views, kayaks & fresh eggs

We had a wonderful experience! The treehouse with its beautiful lake view was a highlight — we loved waking up to that scenery. The hike down to the lake quite a trek on a hot day but totally worth it, and having a shower near the treehouse made it so convenient. Kayaking on the lake was great, and swimming in the cool, clean water on a hot day was refreshing — the kids loved it! We also loved cooking on the camp stove and enjoying a picnic dinner near the treehouse. The sleeping arrangements were comfortable and worked perfectly for our family of 4. Jeremy was very responsive, warm, and helpful throughout our stay. We would absolutely recommend this place to any family looking for a unique outdoor getaway. We will definitely be back! 🌅🛶

Clean this up We have a peaceful stay at the super view cabin. There are horses , goats, sheep and chickens hanging out on the property. Lots of room to hike and explore. It’s backed up on blm . We kayaked, cooked eggs frszh from the coop and hung out on the deck of the cabin watching the stunning view. Wish we stayed more than one night! We will be back. Jeremy and Michelle are super cool , accommodating and responsive.

Jeremy was such an amazing host, and his land is a slice of heaven. We spent all day on the lake and it was such a great way to celebrate a birthday with friends. The campsite was perfect, and we really enjoyed being amongst the chickens and goats on the property.

Magical farm views with comfy couch

This place was kinda magical. I woke up and collected fresh eggs for breakfast, laid in a bunch of hammocks with gorgeous views and sat on the deck looking at the lake. It’s a good cross between rustic camping and glamping. The couch is great to have to relax and be comfortable at night, but you still get the minimalism of camping with the kitchen and shower outside. The kitchen actually had a nice gas griddle/bbq which made it easy to cook.

Overall our stay was pleasant. The kitchen was not sheltered much from the rain and dishware was heavily scratched up and moldy to the point it would be unsafe to use. Cancelation is strict as mentioned, hosts would not cancel or reschedule despite emergency room sickness in the days before. Host mentioned weather was perfect but on arrival it downpoured and quickly became muddy so kayaks, fires and stargazing became out of the question. Be warned that the only ev charging station for the nearby 50 miles is for Teslas, we found out that the hard way. Beds were comfy. Animals were friendly and absolutely the highlight of our trip.

The dogs are adorable, eggs delicious, lake clear and gorgeous. Host was very kind in assisting us in and out of the site, making sure we were safe, and that we knew where everything was. Site had much more than expected and listed. Kayaking was very fun and the lake only had a few other boats that we saw the entire time. Would visit again!

We had THE MOST amazing stay at The Painted lake cabin. Like every single review here, this place is so inviting and is full of warmth. The animals, the lake and the hosts themselves make the overall experience so worth it. Bathrooms were clean and the hot showers were functional. We are a big fan of Painted Lake and will 100% recommend it. We will definitely go again :)

The remote, rustic feel of the grounds combined with the luxury of a handcrafted bungalow was truly unique. The panorama of the lake through mature oak trees was magical. The kayaks and privacy of the lake made this a one of a kind opportunity. We highly recommend this experience to all who enjoy the unkempt wild of nature, glamping at it's finest, and are comfortable with moderate physical activity. We especially enjoyed the outdoor shower feature.

This place was fabulous! The treehouse was cozy and the view was unmatched! We did some tent camping as well and there was plenty of space for that. The little kids in our party got a kick out of all the animals and my nephew got to hold a 2-day old baby lamb. The walk down and up to the lake was a bit of a hike, but not too bad. Jeremy was a fabulous host!

We had such a wonderful stay at the Super View Cabin! One of our favorite parts was all the animals—especially the baby lambs, which made the experience feel extra special. The walk down to the lake is definitely steep on the way down and a total calf-burner on the way back up, but it’s absolutely worth it. The views and peaceful setting make the effort pay off. This place was exactly what we needed to relax and unwind. I’m a big sunrise person, and the sunrise here completely made the trip for me—just beautiful. We’d absolutely come back and would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, memorable getaway!

Our 13-year-old daughter’s review:: Super View cabin was one of the best, most gorgeous HipCamps I have experienced! A very welcoming environment on a wooded hillside with a variety of friendly animals (horses, baby goats, dogs, sheep, chickens) and kayaking on a crystal clear lake. We had the most amazing time on Jeremy’s property. It’s absolutely beautiful and our campsite was everything we could have asked for. Jeremy was so kind and accommodating when I wanted to change the dates due to weather and was even more welcoming when we arrived. The campsite is just a 15 minute walk down to the lake which is wonderful, we spent the entire day there. Our dog would probably also like to say that he had a great time playing with the puppy all day. Thanks again can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful, fun, great hospitality. Amazing spot for animal lovers! Jeremy is a super kind guy and great communicator. Lake access is killer, but solid incline on the hike back up to campsites. Might keep in mind for groups with accessibility needs, but otherwise a nice amount of exercise! Everything was as described or better. Highly recommend!

Off grid with hot shower/kitchen with utensils. Cabin is awesome with mountain/lake view. Dogs are friendly and goats / chickens roaming around in Jeremy’s land. Awesome host! Thanks for the free fresh eggs from your chickens 😁

We had a short but incredibly sweet stay! The views were absolutely beautiful, and waking up to the lake each morning was such a peaceful experience. The small hike down to the lake was beautiful and totally worth it. The animals on the property were honestly the best part — plus we loved getting some extra affection from the resident pup. We even grabbed a few eggs for the road. Everything was wonderful from start to finish, and when we lost power, it was restored so quickly. Jeremy, our Hipcamp host, was super friendly and accommodating and had great recommendations for the area, which made the trip even better. 10/10 stay — we would absolutely come back and highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful, memorable getaway.

Had an awesome experience here. Was a little concerned about how their dogs would act around my 2 little dogs but it wasnt that big of a hassle. Luna was very well-mannered and kept her distance from our dogs and she was super friendly. The guardian dogs only hung out for about 20 minutes when we first got there and then we didnt see them until the next day when they came and checked on us for another 20mins in the afternoon. The view was amazing, especially at sunrise. Jeremy was super cool and even cut us up some firewood to use.

Best stay with the nicest hosts!

We loved staying in the tree house with incredible views of the lake and nice, cosy set up for 2 people. Jeremy went above and beyond in terms of making us comfortable providing fire wood, helping us to get to the lake side for kayaking and letting us pet the cutest ever puppies that live on the farm. We ate some good food in the town of Murphys and Jeremy’s recommendations of V bistro and vino moda were both excellent. Waking up to the birds chirping and superb view of the lake, foothills clouds from the lofted bed was a real pleasure. Cannot recommend more for a nice get away!!

My son and I absolutely loved the cabin and Jeremy’s land! It was beautiful set next to the late and the views were amazing. The cabin was super cozy and it was so nice to have extra amenities (sink, shower, kitchen) near by. We had so much fun going kayaking, playing with the different farm animals and dogs and eating fresh eggs from the chicken coop. The dogs were so friendly and one of them even stayed with us overnight which my son loved! We can’t wait to come back to this space. Jeremy was so kind, communicative and providing great ideas and suggestions for local places.
