Great experience, will stay again!
We weren't sure how some of the state park campsites were set up being new to the area, so we began to look elsewhere. We found Ken's land on HipCamp and decided we would try it out. Seasoned wood, campfire utensils, cookware, and even a kayak that was available for us to use! Plus a pond that is clean and packed with bass.
This was exactly what my wife and I needed. From the location, the atmosphere, to the host. This was our first HipCamp booking so we had no idea what to expect. However, it started great with fast communication. He was always an easy text away for any questions we had and gave us great directions on the morning of our trip.
We wanted to go to a place where we had limited to zero contact with others. A place where we could drive right up to our campsite in case we needed the car. A place that would be good for stargazing. And a body of water would be a plus. Ken's place had it all. It has a nice covered picnic shelter and a great dock to sit on. When you arrive, be prepared to see armadillos, deer, turkey, hawks, turtles, beavers.. The list could go on. It is situated across from a cow pasture so enjoy the moo's as you sit by the fire, coupled with the occasional coyote howl. The owls talking back and forth made for a nice evening. (Don't worry about the nearby road you turn off of, it's a dead-end road that you won't see any traffic from, just allows for easy access to the property for yourself)
We had zero complaints about our trip, other than it being rainy and cloudy for our nights stay. But that's why we are already planning our next trip out to Ken E.'s Land!
