Well off the beaten track, it's scenic, private and peaceful. Camping at Moon In The Pond Farm is a bit of heaven. There are separate sites to choose. Around the farm, you have your own secluded spot to enjoy. (Though you may be in a field next to our Scottish Highland cattle!) Two are tent sites: the PondSide and the FieldEdge. There's one site for small/tiny RVs or Campervan. And finally there's the HiddenCabin--a bed a roof and convenience. Each has a firepit with a small grill to cook over the fire. (all firewood provided) Our campsites are in quieter areas of the farm. One overlooks the pond, others are on the edges of different farm fields, one a cabin nearer the farmstead. All require a beautiful, bucolic trek of 150-350 yards from the roadside parking--ensuring the quiet, natural experience. During the day times, you may see or hear farm work. At night it's lusciously dark and serenely quiet. You'll hear owls hoot, frogs croak, crickets chirp, foxes yowl and coyotes howl! In June and July the fields and trees light up like Christmas with fireflies, and you'll see the stars. During the week is the absolute best time--the local hot spots (or cooling down spots!) are much quieter, and all our campsites have reduced weekday rates. If you can, take advantage by adding a Thursday or Sunday night to a weekend stay. We've got an awesome, easy hiking trail on adjacent Nature Conservancy land. It meanders through woodlands, around rock ledges, through wetlands (on a 600' of boardwalk) and ends at a beautiful stream and pond with a gigantic beaver dam. Not far from here are numerous well-marked hiking trails (including the Appalachian Trail (with famous Bash Bish Falls) and several offshoots (Sage's Ravine, Race Brook Falls), Bartholomew's Cobble, Umpacheenee Falls, and others). Also in the neighborhood are opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, gavel-road and country-road biking, and pretty much any outdoor activity/adventure opportunity. Or... you can just chill and relax, sleep, or read the day away! Love food? This is Farm-to-Table for real! Never so close--the table's AT the farm! Bring your cooking gear and get some of our wicked fresh organic food--veggies, chops, sausages, eggs, bacon, granola, yogurt, etc. Sear yourself up a real treat! Very nearby, as the Berkshires is a cultural mecca, there are also numerous opportunities from many great restaurants to art, dance, music, spas, galleries, antique shops, museums, cafes and much more. It's still amazingly quiet at the farm where the Milky Way is clearly visible.

Tenting by the pond is gorgeous! It definitely has it's advantages: The pond is a beautiful reflector of the days and nights in fall, winter and spring; it's the shortest hike in from the road (~200 yards (1/10th mi./183 m)) ; and depending on the time of year, it is a dramatic symphony of spring peepers, tree frogs, bull frogs or crickets. It's also the shortest walk (but not too near! ;) ) to the porta-potty (if you require convenience). The possible down sides: If you're not ready for it, the cacophony of amphibians in the spring can be too much for some. The site is just off the farm road (35 yards), so the occasional passing of farm vehicles (usually only once or twice a day and usually not every day) can break the serenity. AND, in the summer, especially when there are droughts, the water level in the pond drops and can be very low (or in extreme drought, dry).

On the edge of the field we call "Idaho", this site is a pleasant hike (400 yds./365m) from the road, so provides wonderful quiet and excellent privacy. It's graced with morning to mid-afternoon shade under towering pines from which you look out onto an open field. There's a fire pit with a small grill. It's a sweet site for a single or couple, but also a great site for groups of 4 or 6 as there's plenty of space to spread out--including an 'auxiliary/secondary' tent site about 10 yards from the main site. It is 3/10ths mi./

From your unique, secluded spot on the farm you'll enjoy beautiful farm or mountain views, gorgeous firefly displays, hooting owls and stunning night skies.  It's the Berkshires!  Crickets are chirping, ferns and summer greens prevail.  The farm and the Berkshires are alight and alive with natural beauty.  Summer camping is at it's best here: hot days to work up a sweat hiking then find a stream, pond or waterfall to cool off! Nights are cool and comfortable.  We have the perfect 'dry' campsite (no hook-ups at all) for your SMALL RV (self contained van) or SMALL camper (teardrop, or pop-up tent) that will give you the royal roost of the farm.  (The farm 'road' to the site is kinda rough, so an OFF ROAD vehicle with clearance is a must.  Usually 2WD is sufficient--if in doubt, ask. See "Accommodations" information for specific size limitations.) Please note that vehicles may drive in at check-in and out at check-out. To preserve the peacefulness, character and experience of the farm for all, camper-vans are allowed to drive out and in ONCE per day. Our intention is absolutely minimize vehicles driving in and out. Grill up the fresh veggies and chops from the farm store, relax by the campfire and gaze at the Milky Way.  Sleep in then wake to cook up your favorite camp pancake recipe, cowboy coffee and eggs, bacon and sausages you snagged from our larder!  (Check the complete list under "Products" on our website that includes yogurt, granola and local specialties.) Moon In The Pond is a small farm nestled on a quiet picturesque dirt road in the southern Berkshire hills in Sheffield, Mass. Raising food naturally and sharing the experience has been a strong commitment throughout the farm’s 30-year history. The farm is situated on preserved land that is surrounded by thousands of acres of wild, conserved land (owned by The Nature Conservancy). Adjacent to the farm, as well as nearby are numerous marked hiking trails, including the Appalachian Trail . Also in the neighborhood are canoeing, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, off-road, dirt-road and country-road biking, and pretty much any outdoor activity/adventure opportunity.

The farm's cabin has been spiffed up with a comfy double bed, a window seat and a small table for writing or just coffee. A little boardwalk takes you to a one room cabin on short stilts that sits slightly uphill from the farmstead. It has screens all down one side, so you can take in the clean country air and the wonderful feel of being outdoors. It's a sweet, quiet perch to hear, smell, watch and enjoy farm life. It's a retreat for solo adventurers or couples. Experience the brisk Berkshire night air by a crackling fire just outside at your own fire pit, then cuddle up into your sleeping bag inside your little hide away.  (There's no heat in the cabin (wood stove in pics only decorative). The 'windows' are SCREENS ONLY (no glass) April through Oct. (see photos).  They are swapped out for actual windows Nov. -April.)   Our private cabin is close to all Berkshire cultural attractions and loads of outdoor activities while nestled in the countryside on a quiet organic farm. It's a great base for exploration, a romantic hideaway, or a quiet writing retreat. Though you can recharge your laptop or phone, there's no internet connectivity. Your retreat won't be interrupted by squawks, or chirps, except from our chickens and lots of tree frogs. The farmhouse is nearby (50 yards), but the cabin is wonderfully private. It's own mini 'lawn' and fire pit (we have  FIREWOOD available--please don't bring wood) are just outside the door.  Stroll the farm road, explore, keeping in mind it's a working farm, you may have to give way to a tractor!  Hike the maintained The Drury Trail (Nature Conservancy land) right next to the farm, or just chill in your cabin hideaway.  It's cozy and rustic--it's the countryside, its a farm!--with a wonderful vibe.  This is definitely not air-b&b.  Expect to be put to sleep by crickets and awakened by a crowing rooster.  If you're put off by field mice (that sometimes visit the cabin!), or upset by grass soaked with morning dew; if a coyote's howl or a hooting owl cause you consternation, this is decidedly not for you. The toilet is a porta-potty that is 100 yards from the cabin.  The cabin has no running water. (Natch, water's available at the house.) Take-out meals are available out at any of the numerous, great south Berkshire eateries: There's a great cafe five minutes away for cappuccino or a breakfast sammie and a dozen terrific restaurants within 20 minutes. ...or...  Bring your own gear (camp stove, pan and dishes) to prep and cook your meal at the fire pit--that's the 'rough' camping part!  We can provide materials if you need: FIREWOOD, organic pasture-raised meats, organic veggies, eggs, etc. as seasonally available (separate charges)--Check the "Extras" on this listing. We ask that guests respect our privacy in and around the house, and immediate environs.  On the farm, closed areas (with doors and gates) are off limits: pastures, animal enclosures, stalls, etc.   If in doubt, please ask.

Accommodations and site were as described. Dominic is very friendly and helpful. It's a few miles off any main roads so it's very quiet and dark at night so the star gazing is excellent and so is the sleeping. I would note that there is no shower available for use but he will let you use the hose! :)

Last minute decided to book a camping trip at Dominic’s Idaho site and it was the most incredible experience. This was my first time camping on a farm and seeing all the animals on site was truly magical! Dominic was a great host and walked us to our campsite and gave us a quick history of the land. Such a perfect spot to unwind, star gaze, and enjoy nature. Waking up to the cows grazing in the pasture was something really special. Will definitely be back!! !!

Pros- interesting farm animals if you haven’t seen them before. Nice and quiet. At night the only sounds were frogs and owls. Cons- Loonng walk to campsite lugging your camp setup. Goose poop is Everywhere! I get it it’s a farm but still unpleasant to drag into the tent. The host Dom seems unfamiliar with how to be a pleasant host. Perhaps he needs to rethink allowing visitors to his property. The unbending reinforcement of minor rules would make a facist bureaucrat proud.

We loved being at Moon in the Pond!!! Dominic keeps an idyllic, lush farm and the Idaho site was absolutely beautiful and private. We woke up each morning to grazing highland cows in the pasture nearby - the site is definitely in and among the working farm and its animals. Photos don’t really do it justice. Guests who are bug bite prone like me should make sure to bring repellent for the dusk and early evening hours. Would absolutely stay again. Thank you Dominic!

Owner was very friendly and helpful! Camped at ‘Idaho’ and spot was very private besides the cows, who came over to say hi but still kept a friendly distance! Fell asleep to fireflies and woke up to a beautiful sunrise

Our stay at Dom's Moon in the Pond farm was ideal. The cabin was cozy and comfortable while the screens successfully kept the bugs out. The property is bucolic with adorable cows, lambs, chickens, etc. We pre ordered the spicy sausage with fennel along with other farm fresh foods - which were delicious. It was the perfect home after a long day of swimming and hiking. Would definitely come again!

We loved our stay here! We were on the pond site and we loved the sound of the frogs and nature in the night time. It was also nice to walk the trails and see all the other animals on the farm. The campsite was very private and came with a fireplace. Dominic was very kind when we chatted and gave us a good amount of wood for $10! Thanks for the awesome stay!

This is such a lovely place to spend a few nights! Dom is very kind and helpful, and met us upon arrival to make sure we had everything we need. The tent site is awesome - the pond is beautiful and the site is private. The animals are the best part!! They are always out and about and super cute :)

Very nice property, each site is very private. Be ready to walk your things to the site. Dom has wheelbarrows to help move things which is great. Great experience, the firewood is a nice big bundle. We loved the animals on the farm too. No tables at the sites but there are some nice stumps you can easily use as a table. Thanks Dom

The farm was lovely! Dominic was welcoming and gave us great local recommendations. We got the firewood bundle, which gave us more than enough for 2 nights, and the produce bundle, which was also definitely more than worth the price. The pond site was pretty, private and serene. Would absolutely come back!

Dominic’s farm is gorgeous, we camped in the field and loved it. Walking by all the animals each day was fun, and their dog Chip was hilarious. Do ask about the hot sauce, he makes fantastic hot sauce in addition to all the farms offerings.

After some nice, specific instructions I found and settled into my site. The space was generous and private. Other than a bit of a run-in with a raccoon who unfortunately got my blueberries—hang your food!—my stay was quiet (all noise was farm animals or other nature) and pleasant. Dom has firewood and farm veggies plus eggs.

Dominic's farm is special! This Hipcamp experience is unique as you are surrounded by animals like pigs, sheep, geese, chickens, large cows, a couple of big cats and Chip, the dog. Dominic carefully tends to the land and the animals so that bees can find flowers and resources are preserved. It's a special craft and it is important that whoever chooses to stay at Moon In The Pond understands this. Dominic is a generous person, very charismatic, and filled with lots of interesting stories!

The 'Idaho' site on Dominic's land was the perfect place to camp. It was secluded along a beautiful meadow, surrounded by trees, and with a wonderful view of the sunset. Camping there is reminiscent of Idaho. His farm is also lovely with many happy plants and animals. Dominic was a wonderful host. He was responsive to messages and made sure I had everything I needed. If I hadn't arrived so late in the rain, I would have enjoyed spending more time speaking with him.

Dominic is a great host and his land is beautiful and peaceful! The cabin is clean and well hidden in the trees. Walking around the land, you'll meet animals at every corner. Dominic is very generous with his knowledge about farming and the earth. Overall, this is what a true Hipcamp should be like!

Dominic is a great host and the Farm is a lovely place to stay! I felt secure and happy to stay here as a solo traveler. Chip, the pup, is a delightful companion as well! I appreciated learning about farming and the earth as well. The cabin and farm is well maintained. My stay was very restorative and I hope to return for another reflection weekend some time!

This site is a beautiful mixture of being an off-the-grid camping experience while enjoying the sights and sounds of a quaint and cozy farmstead. Dominic is a very friendly and welcoming host and also a great hardworking local farmer, we had the pleasure of trying everything from on site grown turnips to grass fed beef, both of which were amazing. I would highly recommend this for anybody who is a looking for a more private and unique camping experience. We entered the site and were greeted by the sounds of sheep and the surrounding wildlife while Chip (the friendly Australian shepherd) came up for pets and walked with us to our site. We only stayed 3 days and if not for my schedule I would’ve spent the week.

I stayed in the lovely rustic cabin nestled along Dominic's well-tended farm. Cool breeze in the evening, peaceful walk in the morning to greet the chickens and cooos, owls hooting at night. Easy location for visiting Sheffield, Great Barrington, and area scenic spots. Internet signal was weak at the farm, but hopefully that's a feature, not a bug, for you. Folks spooked by creature sounds at night--probably not a good fit for you.

Solitude with a trek

I really loved the solitude of the Pond site. But be prepared for quite a trek in. My advice would be to definitely get there before dark and don’t plan to bring too much to site. Besides the long pushes of the wheelbarrow (including the firewood) the stay was great. Dominic was a pleasure and I was grateful for the opportunity to stay at his farm. Also, some of the most gorgeous flowers I’ve ever seen grew there.
