Family-friendly
Recent Hipcampers say this Hipcamp is great for families and kids.
Our property is just minutes from Mendocino's beaches, parks and sweet town, yet private and quiet as it is surrounded by 50,000 acre state forest with world class hiking and biking trails directly accessed from our place.
Around the giant redwoods and meadows we have sprinkled in the most amazing little cabins and deluxe bath house. We have a great outdoor camp kitchen available for your use. This is a very special experience for us to share with you.
We are a family of campers. We agree, there's nothing better than a rest in a hammock following a hike and a river swim and a night under the stars without the constant dinging of cell and internet!
Guests love staying here: "Such a lovely getaway! Our family of four and little dog thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Heartwood. The cabins are great, with comfortable (warm) beds, very clean and cozy. It’s well worth the visit even in the winter! Really appreciated being outdoors surrounded by Redwoods, hiking the trails around the property, the modern bathrooms with hot showers, and the indoor sitting area to make coffee in the mornings. Our stay was relaxing, memorable and special!"

cabin 4
This was our second time staying at Heartwood and it was just as magical as the first. Our first time we stayed in Cabin 2 which has one Queen bed, while Cabin 4 has a Queen and a twin. It’s also roomier overall. Beds are heated and super comfy. Every little detail is accounted for which made our stay so comfortable. And of course you can’t skip out on the incredible outdoor redwood tree shower. Can’t wait to come back!!

This is such a lovely spot with modern amenities. If you are looking to get out in nature but still have a flushing toilet this is the spot for you. It’s super close to town and it’s easy to pop into town for a bite or the grocery store. The outdoor kitchen is amazing too!

MAGICAL
Heartwood Mendocino was absolutely the most magical place we could have found. Everything was thought of to make our stay memorable. The redwood shower to the fire pit along with very clean bathrooms to well equipped kitchen were amazing. The bed in the cabin was very comfortable and the hikes around property were fabulous. We will be back and we’ll tell everyone we know to stay there.

Cozy Cabin #1 Heartwood Mendocino
Cozy getaway surrounded by nature!
We had an amazing time during our stay! The place was so cozy, the bathrooms were really clean, and the directions were easy to follow. We also loved the heated bed. Don't miss the fantastic outdoor shower among the redwoods, it's a must-try! Plus, it's only a quick 10-minute drive to downtown Mendocino for food. Overall, we had a great experience!

A lovely and well thought out venue
Let me start by saying that Heartwood is a real gem. The craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into the design and building of this venue is remarkable. This is not camping and barely qualifies as “glamping”. It feels more like a B&B or boutique hotel. I only have one complaint and it’s kind of a big one… You can not lock the cabin doors from the outside. You can lock them from the inside. There are deadbolts and door handles. All of the infrastructure is there but the host/owner refused to supply a key. When I asked about one I was told, "We don’t use keys. There is no safety issue here!" That might be very well be the case but there is also no security, no gate, no front desk, nobody around and no check in. There is nothing to stop someone from wandering down from the road or out of the woods and straight into your cabin. There might not be a “safety issue” but when I’m paying $505- for two nights midweek I would like to be able to lock my room on my way out to dinner instead of feeling the need to carry all of my valuables back to the car and take them with me. I had a nice conversation with the host about this as we were leaving and expressed my concerns. They seemed receptive and I hope they decide to change this policy going forward.
