Matt was a very accommodating and helpful host! He made us feel very welcome, even on a rainy night. When the weather cleared the next morning, we were able to explore more of the beautiful property. Directions were clear and it was easy communication if we had any issues. (The propane fire pit does work in the rain!)

We arrived after dark and the well lit walkway down to the campsite was appreciated. The walk down was quite steep which could be an issue for anyone with mobility issues, but we were delighted when arrived at the bottom and saw a lovely camping area.
Matt was friendly and responded to all messages and questions in a timely manner.

I so enjoyed my experience at Matt's camp site! The place was easy to get to, included tons of helpful signage, and offered a cozy, private respite nestled in the woods complete with a string of lights (which made it easy to find my way to/from the parking spot) and other basic amenities (e.g. picnic table, charcoal grill, trash can, outdoor toilet). Matt was also very communicative throughout my stay and warmly greeted me when I arrived. Would definitely recommend!

Up the hill from Aptos
Quiet and secluded spot just a short walk from your parked car. Private enough to feel some serenity for your weekend getaway, yet still only a 10 minute drive down into Aptos for shopping or grub that doesn’t rely on your own BBQ skills. The string lights set a great ambiance to sit back and relax. Post up at the picnic table and enjoy your time. Also, the composting toilet comes in handy and is provided, even with its own little tent for a little extra privacy.

Redwood forest escape
Matt's camping spot offers convenience and privacy among the redwoods a short drive from the beach and The Forest of Nisene Marks State Park. The string lights make evening set-up and cooking easier and provide a nice ambiance. Matt was friendly and helpful. I'd happily go back and camp again.

Matt was a great host, love the property, up in a very quiet and beautiful area on a large piece of property. Nice not to have a bunch of neighbors, just a nice quiet place that felt all to ourselves. Helpful to have power, water and even wifi coverage for keeping people posted on the trip. Thanks!

Only a 25 minute drive to pleasure point but removed to enjoy nature and relax Only nature notice at night and you can sleep with your rain fly open being more remote. Matt has great communication, easy to find and setup is helpful. Definitely recommend and stay again.

I really loved the secluded area you get to set up camp at and they have a side area with a few chairs to sit and relax or even set up a smaller tent. The lights they have hung up are so pretty at night too! The only downside is the steep hill you have to walk down to get there, not the worst but I was not expecting it so just keep that in mind. Other than that the host was attentive and even when we got in later than expected he helped us with wi-fi and guided us to the campsite! Would recommend this place to stay (:

L-O-V-E-D it
Matt was such a doll! Plus you are surronded by Redwoods in the cool Santa Cruz forest--utter paradise. My friend and I enjoyed a couple of cold ones and sat back and watched the fog slowly roll in peacefully. Suprisingly, it wasn't too cold at night, just a little damp in the morning. if you are looking to engross yourself in the classic Norcal experience, I highly recommend checking this spot out. Would definitely book again.
P.S. so many banana slugs, your mouths gonna get slimy from all the kisses

Camping amongst Santa Cruz redwoods
Hello world,
Matt was extremely accommodating and helpful in terms of directions to the site, constant and timely communication, and providing insight on the surrounding area and the campground itself.
Maybe new Hipcampers out there are nervous about where they are actually camping on hipcamp, especially with the idea of it being a new host. I get it.
But, this review is to show the world that my wife and I had a fantastic time staying at this campsite, and we want everyone to know how friendly the campground host Matt was and how comfortable the environment was. I give our stay a 5 out 5!

Great site and host close to Aptos
What a great, friendly host and lovely site. You park in Matt’s driveway then walk just a couple of minutes to a lovely site with a picnic table, grill, fire pit, running water and a tent place for a medium to large tent. Another few minutes away is another lovely site to sit in 2 chairs and enjoy the gorgeous scenery or even pitch a second small tent for kids. You have access to Matt’s beautiful property and trails and even can visit his chickens.
Overall awesome great site and host.
