Located within walking distance of the historical market town of Machynlleth, we're a great base for exploring all that rural Mid West Wales has to offer. We're on the Glyndŵr National Walking Trail and the Wales Coast Path. There are many cycling trails of all levels nearby - from the Lon Las and Dyfi Bike Park to Ystwyth and Elan Trails.
A short bus ride from us are the Snowdonia National Park, Cader Idris and beautiful beaches of Cardigan Bay.
Our guests love the outdoors but like a little relaxation at the end of a day's activities, so we offer a some home comforts in the communal camping facilities barn which has a kitchenette with fridge, kettle, microwave and washing up area as well as an indoor seating area on the mezzanine level. Hot showers and toilets are available in the wet rooms also situated in the barn. You can unwind under the stars in the communal campfire area next to the camping field.
There's an outdoor sink on the camping field for cleaning muddy gear and a place to clean your bike if needed.
The nearby town offers independent shops, an art gallery and historical buildings. There are plenty of places to eat and drink, grocery shops and a petrol station where you can top up on supplies.
You'll get the best of both worlds at this secluded campsite which overlooks the Dyfi Valley's stunning scenery whilst being within stone's throw of local amenities.

Weekend Trip to The Peacock Shepherds Hut
Beautifully clean and spacious Shepard's hut, so very well themed with great attention to detail , lovely friendly hosts, loved all the animals and the view and seclusion was amazing. A good distance from the next hut, at least two full fields away, so we felt like we were the only ones there, visited the nearby town of Ruthin, which was historical, pretty and well worth a visit. Came home after two nights relaxed and very happy - very good value for money

Lovely, cosy stay while we completed a short course at CAT (which you can walk to through birdsong-filled woodland). Great communication from Megan throughout. Appreciated our boots and slippers at this time of year (March) - so recommend bringing those along!

Absolutely delightful place!! We arrived in the pitch black but found it very easily. The hut was beautifully furnished, when we woke this complemented the absolutely breathtaking views on what was a very cold winter morning but the hut was very warm and cosy. I will 100% recommend this stay and will most likely be returning for a longer stay to take in some more of the Welsh countryside.

The hut was lovely and had everything that we need for weekend getaway. The land was so peaceful and there were alpacas nearby. We arrived late a night and took the wrong turn at first but once we got on the right path it was easy to find. Would recommend if you're looking for quiet time off.

My friend and I were bonkers enough to camp here on NYE and we already can’t wait to return. Honestly the best NYE we’ve had! Everything about our stay was 5*, from booking to leaving. Sian was an absolute legend, we had the best pitch on the mountain. Absolutely stunning views. Fire pit was awesome, and the sheep were an added bonus! Lovely little collie pup came to say hi too.

Lovely kind hosts, beautiful views and walks straight from the roundhouse enjoyed by us and our cat Blue. Absolutely magical.

We have just come back from a campervan 2 night trip to Panpwnton Campsite. We had a lovely time, it was very quiet as we were the only ones staying…. Probably due to the weather!
This meant we got a great spot right next to the river which was perfect.
The facilities were good. The location was great. We did a walk straight from the site on to part of Offa Dykes path and along to the Knuclas viaduct, great views along the way. We had thought we might get the train back just for fun, but they don’t run very often (would have been a 2hr wait) so walked back instead.
Site also easy walking distance to the local pub for an evening meal which was good too.
Very Dark walk back that evening meant for some great star gazing:-)

Brilliant campsite. I was camping there alone but felt very comfortable. Lovely field to camp in, beautiful views around the farm in the morning, great building to chill out in, useful facilities to store and heat food. Also loved the honesty shop with delicious pastries. Ian was very helpful with recommending local walks, and checked in throughout stay. Would love to visit again next year!

We loved our stay at smugglers cove! The pitch is very well maintained with stunning views. It’s so peaceful and the fire pit was great in the evening. Facilities are clean and well kept, lovely to have warm water for washing up. We can’t wait to come and stay again in the spring/summer. We loved it!

Panpwnton Farm is a lovely campsite. Very clean toilets and wash up facilities. I didn't use the showers as I only stayed a couple of nights, however they were spacious.
I will definitely be returning for a longer stay.
It's a lovely walk from the campsite to Knighton, alongside the river.
Trains do pass right along the side of the site but it didn't bother me or my dog. Easy access to Offa's Dyke.

The Peacock Shepherds Hut was amazing. The views are incredible and the hut was really comfortable and well thought out from the lovely Peacock details to underfloor heating. The facilities provided everything I needed to enjoy a peaceful break. Fantastic place to relax and reset listening to birds and enjoying the roaming peacocks and wandering down to see the Alpacas. Carol makes you feel so welcome. I will definitely be recommending this place to friends.

There are few better places to visit in West Wales if you enjoy surfing, sailing, or birdwatching than the strikingly beautiful Llŷn Peninsula, which is home to Abersoch, Pwllheli, Bardsey Island, and Aberdaron. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this region is characterised by working farms, rolling pastureland, and ancient woodland perfect for walking, biking, horseback riding, and camping. In fact, you can pitch your tent at back-to-basics camping parks, caravan sites, or glamping sites with sweeping English views. Canoeing and climbing are also on offer here.
Isle of Anglesey
Glamping sites, family-run campgrounds, and caravan parks are dotted around the Isle of Anglesey, a remote, majority Welsh-speaking region off the northwest Wales coast. Take to the water with sea kayaking, swimming, and coasteering; do a loop of the Anglesey Coast Path, visit Beaumaris Castle of Holyhead; and enjoy the many Blue Flag beaches in the area which is just an hour and a half north of Barmouth.
When to go
Beachy Barmouth enjoys peak season and the best weather—like much of Wales—between June and September, when watersports, camping, and fair-weather walking are all popular pursuits. Summer also welcomes kite festivals, the Three Peaks Yacht Race, and the Hurly Burly 10K Swim, but Barmouth in the spring is perfectly pleasant, as are the nearby wildflower blooms, while autumn is quieter and good for caravanning. Skip winter, when it’s usually cold and unpleasant on the coast.
Know before you go
- Although there are one or two independent camping supply stores (and a Regatta outlet) in Barmouth, you’d be best to stock up on the essentials in nearby Aberystwyth or even Porthmadog.
- Barmouth is situated on the scenic Cambrian Coast Line, which runs between Pwllheli on the Llŷn Peninsula and Machynlleth in the southern extremes of Snowdonia National Park.
- Buses run to Barmouth from Wrexham, but connections might need to be made in Dolgellau if you’re arriving from other areas.
- Ferries run from Barmouth to Penrhyn Point, from which you can hop on the Fairbourne Railway to nearby Fairbourne.
