The campsite is set in beautiful surroundings, right in the middle of nowhere! The area is stunning and has lots of great walks nearby that our dogs loved. The campsite is in a quiet area, great for when you want to escape for a tranquil weekend! The hill is a little steep, which may be tricky for people with mobility issues, but otherwise it is wonderful. The farm has a few animals which our kids loved visiting, and several red kites were proudly flying over throughout the day; this is a great place for nature lovers. The toilet and shower facilities need a little TLC, but everything works fine. I avoided the portaloos though, not my cup of tea. We will definitely visit again, it is such a lovely spot hidden away in a truly beautiful spot.

Amazingly relaxing break. Lovely site with wonderful walks through the woods and across the nearby fields. Very peaceful and quiet site. The night sky was mesmerising. Compost toilets were clean, though a little cramped. Two portable toilet pods arrived on the second day and we're much appreciated. Cold water washing up facilities were very handy. Host was very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend the site for a relaxing get away.

Weekend Trip to Stockbridge View Campsite

Fantastic campsite, the host is really friendly and helpful, he gave us a warm welcome and was lovely with our dogs. The shower block is clean and well kept, and the washing up block is well maintained too. The site is tidy and clean, while not huge I felt we had plenty of space. We parked our small campervan on a hard standing site, and the rest of the site wasn’t particularly muddy. There were several other campers with dogs, everyone we encountered was friendly and clearly enjoying the wonderful quiet site! The site is a short walk or drive to Stockbridge, so if you need anything from the town it isn’t a hassle to get to. The town is worth a visit, so having a campsite in such close vicinity is a treat. I would highly recommend this site, I camp regularly throughout the year and this is one of the nicest sites I’ve visited.

The farm was very easy to get to, and Donna and her husband were extremely communicative and welcoming. The cabin itself was an utter delight and more than I would've expected, both in terms of amenities available, and the quality therein. Very easy to both cook on site and enjoy the farm itself, and to head out into the countryside. Plus the cows were such a special treat to see!

Stayed for 2 nights in a tent. Sue was very accommodating, even driving us to the co-op to get some logs for our fire pit. Would recommend going here on a Friday night for a weekend trip out of London.

We had a lovely time staying here. The shepherd's hut was attractive, cosy and well equipped. Because we stayed at the end of October we unfortunately didn't make use of all the outside seating, which would be lovely in summer. So once it gets dark, it is very quiet and isolated, so just be prepared to cosy up inside with books etc. In the daytimes we liked exploring the local villages and some amazing pubs on our bikes.

Facilities are open but please be prepared for the vagaries of the weather, leaves, puddles and mud. To change pitch please let us know asap so that we can try if possible to find you another. Good things await for those who grab a berth at Weston Caravan and Campsite, in the Oxfordshire village of Weston-on-the-Green. For starters, space seekers should be pleased to see that there’s plenty of breathing room around this former dairy farm – excellent news for kids or dogs that need a bit of haring-about time after being cooped up in the car. Depending on where you’ve plonked down you may find that your nearest neighbours are the resident beef cattle, sheep or horses; it’s worth keeping your eyes open for sightings of the hedgehogs that often scuttle about the place too. Perhaps most crucially for those whose stomachs dictate a site’s success is the presence of a café that serves up a tempting range of freshly cooked goodies: breakfasts (no rush – they’re served all day), salads, cakes and coffees, plus cheeses, pies and the like to take away. And the crème de la crème – literally: homemade ice cream in up to 16 (yes, a lipsmacking 16) different flavours. Evening appetites can be sated with a barbecue out on the field, or trotting off to the local pub five minutes’ walk away. The site added a new toilet and shower block in 2018. And how to get to this little slice of rural loveliness? The village is just a few minutes’ drive from the A34 and Junction 9 of the M40, making it both a useful stopover on cross-country voyages and a handy spot for Oxfordshire breaks (perhaps taking in Oxford, Blenheim Palace or bagging bargains in Bicester).

Overview

Known for 15 miles of varied-level mountain bike trails and its adrenalin-addled zipline courses just south of Bracknell in Berkshire, Swinley Forest is packed with outdoor fun for adventurers of all ages. Dog-friendly walks weave through the trees (pick up maps at the Look Out reception centre), and shaded forest tracks attract cycling. This area also makes an ideal base for trips to Legoland, Ascot, Windsor, and Thorpe Park, all within 30 minutes’ drive. Campers will delight in retreating to lakeside pitches, local working farms and secluded forest grounds nearby.

Where to go

Windsor & Eton

Queen Elizabeth’s beloved weekend escape, millenium-old Windsor Castle lords it over the twin Thames-hugging towns of Windsor and Eton, a half-hour drive northwest of Swinley Forest. Wander the swish galleries and boutiques, jump aboard a boat trip along the Thames, then explore Windsor Great Park, filled with footpaths, gardens, and a much-loved deer park.

Chiltern Hills AONB

Northwest from London (and just an hour’s drive north of Swinley Forest), the Chiltern Hills AONB rolls across 320 square miles of beautiful Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Hertfordshire countryside. Sprawling farmland, secluded beechwoods, brick-built villages, and chalk hillsides characterise the area, which is also famous for its rare red kites. There are miles of bucolic walking paths, while cyclists can tackle the 167-mile Chilterns Cycleway.
