Guests to Rhos y Gallt describe the campsite as a little gem of a site - small, quite and tranquil with wonderful sunsets. The site can accommodate up to 5 caravans and 10 tents situated on a level 2 acre site within the beautiful rolling hills of Montgomeryshire in Mid Wales.
There are hard standing pitches with electric hook-up as well as grass pitches with and without electric hook-up. There is also a field bordering a river which is used for wild camping - but you'll have to share it with the sheep!
The toilet block has a family wet room with shower, toilet, wash hand basin and baby changing unit, a separate toilet, shower and kitchen area with freezer.
The site borders a river meadow where visitors can wonder down and take a walk down with the river bank, relax by the water edge, throw a few skimmers, do a spot of fishing or even go wild water swimming (at your own risk!).
Well behaved dogs are welcome (maximum 2 per unit).

One of the things people love about staying here is the amazing views - including watching the moon rise over the mountains. The developing Clwydian dark sky region means there are great views of the night sky and sometimes northern lights.
You may just want to hang out and relax but there’s lots to do too!
There are lovely local forest and waterside walks, neolithic burial sites, a stone circle, Osprey, butterfly and (if you are lucky) red squirrel watching, a secret waterfall and river swimming, easy and challenging off road cycling options, access to water sports. Or if you want to use a car to help get up higher the Clwydian and Berwyn Mountains and Eryri (Snowdon) National Park are all within a half an hour drive.
If history and mooching is your thing we are just 5 miles from Ruthin - one of the oldest existing Tudor towns - boasting an historic gaol, a craft centre with regular exhibitions and a castle with a spa and peacocks.
Denbigh with its stunning castle, Corwen, Llangollen, Llyn Tegid (Bala) and the North Wales Coast are easy to reach by car. There are also options for days out using public transport including taking a steam train. Please ask - they aren't all known to Google!
The nearby village has a community run pub and shop with the Glan Llyn tafan offering food by local gastro company Sorbus. In fact there are loads of great little villages near by each with their own character and points of interest including great cafes, walks, Punjabi pub food, historic churches and sacred wells.

The Industrial Revolution World Heritage site started in Shropshire in the 1790s, with many UNESCO sites nearby to visit. Mines on the Stiperstones are good for trekking.
** The National Trust now operates (March 26) the Birthplace of Industry. Blists Hill Victorian town (54acres) and the 10 local museum sites. These ten sites include Enginuity, Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron, and the Jackfield Tile Museums as well as 35 other buildings. All free for members.

My partner and I stayed for the last night of our coastal Welsh road trip and WOW! Saved the best till last! We wanted the closest to ‘wild camping’ with facilities and this is exactly what we got. The host was super helpful and quick to reply to any queries. The welcome PDF was very clear and made check in/out super smooth. The setting is just breath taking, and we had such a peaceful evening. We will definitely be coming back and staying for a few nights to explore more of the area. Thank you so much Smugglers Cove! See you again soon.

Nice piece of land with a wild camp feel. I met Dave when I arrived, he seemed like a lovely chap.
The field will be muddy when wet so if you’re in a van beware. I chose to spend my second night on the hard standing as it was very wet and I’m glad I did. Even if I avoided getting stuck I would have churned up the ground pretty badly

A very welcoming and comfortable stay at Edens Nook. We parked up on a dry pitch, kindly offered as it was available next to the yurts. We had the fire pit, bench and garden to ourselves so we could could and enjoy the peaceful space as the sun set. Warm showers and a cracking breakfast. Well worth it!

Well appointed very dog friendly shepherd's hut, and we even survived Storm Dave in it!
Hut is set in its own dog-secure orchard adjacent to the chicken run and a barn. Lovely views and sunrises over Clwydian hills.
Good shower and cooking facilities. Very comfy bed. Portable heater and log burner.
Eggs from the chickens next door are excellent. 10 min drive to town, great value huge dog zoomie field a minute away, plus lots of forest walks in the area.
One of the best huts we've stayed in, and expect to return to!

David land was very convenient and very clean. Loads of spots to make a fire and great areas to camp by the river. The onsite compost toilet was very clean and maintained. David is a great host I highly recommend staying here.
Site is also a quick drive to the town center and large shops for fire wood or snacks.

This is the second time we've stayed on David's site, and the second time we had a fantastic stay. We pitched our tent in the woods by the river, such a nice place to wake up to! Very basic, with just a loo, but thats absolutely perfect for a quiet get away, getting back into nature.

Wasn't sure what to expect to be honest. Last time I camped in a camp site it was just a field with a portaloo.
This exceeded expectations in every way. Secure number plate scanning gate on entry, unbelievable facilities (proper toilets, showers, sinks). Water tap available and rentable firepits and purchasable kindling and logs.
Honestly proper impressed. Didn't have much interaction with management but what we did have was a pleasure and the pricing of the stay and the wood was fantastic. I absolutely intend on returning and will be highly recommending to everyone I know who is interested.
Also, I don't have a clue what it was all about... But 2 days running we saw an INSANELY low plane go by. Looked like a military cargo plane or something. Couple of helicopters too. Free air show? Bargain!
Also if you're into animals you'll get your fill. Surrounded by horses, geese and ducks flying over, and a nearby owl hooting and hollering.

Really lovely site near Brecon! Perfect spot for wild camping with river, forest and field and basic toilet. Night sky was so clear and the woods were lively with wildlife. David and his horse were both very friendly! Both me and my dog Barney had an amazing stay and did a lovely circular walk to Pen y Crug the following day. Will most definately be back!!

I can’t tell you how peaceful, how pleasant and enjoyable my time was properly. I’ve left today relaxed because I slept incredibly. The lake which is 5 mins away is spectacular. Honestly everything you can think of is provided. Because it’s a smaller site the attention to detail is doubled. Great energy, owners are incredibly welcoming and sweet. I feel like they do anything to make your stay pleasant. I will be back, 100%. I want to come for a clear night because there is no light pollution so the stars will be incredible. Hot showers, lovely clean bathrooms. Also they have lots of spare bits, I needed a pot for cooking and there was a plethora to borrow from. 10/10

Stiperstones National Nature Reserve camping guide
Where to go
River East Onny & Darnford Brook
These two waterways link to form a natural divide between Stiperstones NNR and The Long Mynd to the southeast. With some of the only level, grassy ground between these two popular hilly areas, this is a region attracting lots of outdoor lovers. One of the best pitching places can be found in the wildflower meadows near Ratlinghope, where the Shropshire Way and Cross-Britain Way long-distance paths pass close.
The Long Mynd
The dramatic seven-mile-long wedge of plateau southeast of Stiperstones NNR is The Long Mynd: also part of the Shropshire Hills AONB. Scored by steep valleys and covered in stark moorland, it’s a magnet for hikers as several long-distance paths, such as the Shropshire Way and Cross-Britain Way trundle through, alongside mediaeval trading route The Portway. Prehistoric sites litter the hillsides too.
Kerry Ridgeway
Running along a ravishing ridgetop with Wales on one side and England on the other, this ancient route follows the way cattle drovers would have journeyed with their livestock. It spans 15 miles between Kerry in Wales and Bishop’s Castle in England, a few miles south of Stiperstones NNR. Expect comely sites and glamping pods set in rolling fields with fire pits and picnic tables.
Montgomery Canal & Northern River Severn Loop
Partially navigable Montgomery Canal threads between Frankton Junction in England, where it intersects with the Llangollen Canal, and Newtown in Wales. It runs about ten miles west of Stiperstones NNR. Sleepy, scenic countryside makes the whole waterway a very pleasant place to walk, cycle or try narrowboating. For much of its Welsh course (Arddleen-Newtown), the canal runs close to the northernmost winds of the River Severn. This level, lush, river-laced terrain has excellent camping possibilities.
