Best Beach Camping Near Wookey 2026

I have always loved Sweet Hill Farm. It’s a lovely relaxed campsite with sea views and amazing walks nearby. Also, being able to have a camp fire is fantastic. The showers are brilliant too. The only disappointment for me this year is that the compost loos have been replaced with horrible portaloos! Please bring back compost loos, they are so much nicer!

1 night at Sweet Hill Farm

This was my first time camping here and I will definitely return again. Whilst SatNav got me most of the way, the directions on Hipcamp made the last little bit of the journey much easier. I was welcomed warmly at the well-stocked little cafe, and given a map to show my how to get to the field I pitched in. The tracks on-site are full of large potholes - so definitely something to be mindful of, especially if you have extremely low-suspension on your car! However, take it slow and easy and all is well here. I had the most amazing view, from where I pitched up, over to Portland Bill lighthouse. Both sunset and sunrise were stunning. Facilities here are extremely basic - but it’s enough for those that simply need to get away from life for a while and sleep under the stars without all the creature comforts of home. Of course, there is a place for being able to have all the mod-cons available, but this is camping the way it should be done! I wasn’t here long enough to speak to any of the other campers, but everyone seemed relaxed and there was no loud music or anything played into the night, meaning I could drift to sleep easily enough at the end of the day. The most peaceful and beautiful stay with amazing amenities and cider! The location is incredible, but the merit really goes to the owners and their family who made my partner and I feel so incredibly welcomed during our star We cannot recommend to stay here enough and know we will definitely be visiting when the camping season starts :)

Thank you for another wonderful weekend. A peaceful time spent camping in amongst the apple trees with delicious cider available in the cosy tasting room. Board games to play, Apple cake to munch and clean toilets and showers with plenty of hot water. Lovely family running the show as well. Perfect.

2 nights at Sweet Hill Farm

This was my first time ever camping and I had a great time at this site, it's the perfect mix of rural, real camping with local amenities near enough especially for someone doing camping for the first time. Located right near the coast, it's a beautiful view, excellent facilities including showers and cafe. The only downside is that when I did arrive in the evening there was no one to greet us, even though the cafe should've been open at that time but other than that no complaints, wonderful hosts and would definitely go again.

Fabulous 3-field site, fantastically located and very quiet after the August Bank Holiday. Cleanest showers, toilets and guest hut with very friendly and helpful hosts. I'd say more, but it's supposed to be a secret.

A beautiful, peaceful place to camp for a few days. We loved the rope swings over the river and how the butterflies gorged on fallen apples in the orchard. Lots of space even over the bank holiday weekend.

Weekend Trip to South Dean Camping

We had a wonderful time here, with a beautiful seaside view and the added bonus of catching the sunset in a truly special way. The facilities were excellent – clean toilets, hot showers, and the option to buy a bundle of logs and a fire pit, which made the evenings extra enjoyable. It was also nice to have plenty of space between pitches, giving us a relaxed and comfortable stay. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful, which added to the experience. The only downside was the mobile network coverage – it only worked when we were close to the facilities, but there was no signal at the pitch itself, so it’s good to be prepared for that. Other than that, everything was perfect. Definitely 5 stars from us. Thank you, South Dean Camping, for having us – we’re already looking forward to returning!Dani & Alex

This campsite introduced me to 'quiet camping' - I was concerned that it could be 'too quiet' for my daughter, but the barn (which is fully equipped with games, tables/chairs, and a little shop/bar) provides a central place where everyone congregates throughout the day. Totally geared up for peace and quiet, being out in nature, yet some dedicated features not typically associated with camping (compost loo, fire pit, picnic table and water tap for each pitch was a dream!). And the hosts were friendly, full of fascinating facts and good conversation. Would highly recommend, I'm looking forward to heading back next year.

What a wonderful find. Relatively close for a camping site to lots of local amenities and all of the wonderful opportunities that Croyde, Saunton and Wollacombe offer for jut getting out there and calling. The campsite is well maintained and good value. Steve is so knowledgeable and informative and will guide you through what to do and see.

My partner and I had an amazing long weekend staying at Mew's Farm. The views to the sea and surrounding hills are stunning. The campsite is surrounded by trees on one side (acting as a windbreak) and has all your camping needs close. The showers and pizza night were highlights! There is so much to see, do and explore, all within a short drive. A stunning part of the south West and well worth a visit

Incredible views. Off the beaten track. Some fantastic walks both ways on the SW Coastal Path. Clean facilities and warm showers that don’t take away from the more wild feel of the place. What more could you ask for?!

The campsite overlooks a breathtaking view, quite remote from the busyness of life. Not ideal for surfing as need to drive a bit to a surf beach. However ideal to get away and unwind with nature and explore what the Tarka Trail has to offer . V clean and well looked after.
