The town of Taunton has high street chains, independent retailers and eateries galore so it’s a good place to stock up on supplies or to head out for food if the rain has put a stop to your campfire. Visitors might also be interested in the Museum of Somerset, housed in the 12th-century Taunton castle. Just outside town you can find out about one of Somerset’s most-famous exports, cider, at Sheppy’s Cider Farm where a taste and touring will explain all about this local tipple. Gardeners and historians might like a trip to the 50-acre Hestercombe Gardens and it’s hard to find anyone who wouldn’t enjoy a trip on the West Somerset Railway from Bishop’s Lydeard, just five miles away. This heritage railway can whisk you in to Exmoor National Park and all the way to the seaside at Minehead if you stay on board for the whole 20-mile route.

Walking, running and cycling are great ways to explore Exmoor and the Somerset countryside with the Quantock and Blackdown Hills both popular places to head for. There’s also great hiking at Cheddar Gorge, which is a drive of around 45 minutes from Taunton, and one of Somerset’s most-popular sights. Near Carmarthen, South Wales. A compact and accessible wood with a balance of commercial crops, mature broadleaves, and recent planting, it is set in a sheltered location overlooking the Towy Valley with stunning views. Ffinnant Wood is a mixed woodland, partly commercial and partly broadleaf, with a steep-sided broadleaved valley, Cym yr Abbey, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The wood designations include restored ancient woodland and plantations on ancient woodlands. The SSSI designation arises as this is one of few localities in South Wales that has yielded well-preserved trilobite fossil specimens. The wood comprises a stand of mature mixed Sitka spruce and Douglas fir. These trees have been managed to put on height and volume. The area of recent (2021) coniferous clear felling and some nearby thinning yielded approximately 1,800m3, approximately 635 tonnes/ hectare, showing that this is a productive site. Following harvesting, these areas were replanted with 50/50 Sitka spruce/Douglas fir and a Sm edge of broadleaves adjacent to the B4300. It has been weeded and is growing well. A small area (c. 0.4 hectares, see map) remains to be replanted with 960 trees (Sitka spruce, 90%, oak, 5%, mixed broadleaves, 5%). RIGHTS OF WAY There are no footpaths on the property. This gives the wood an extra element of privacy. DIRECTIONS Drive east on the B4300 from Carmarthen. After 4 miles, you will pass the turn-off for the B4310. Keep on the B4300; after 800m, Ffinnant Wood is on your right-hand side, rising up the slope. There are two points of vehicular access to the wood from the B4300. For viewing, as the B4300 straightens, pull over to the right and park adjacent to the metal double gates, from there you can enter the woodland on foot. You can also enter the site through the smaller wooden gate c.l00m west.

Lovely peaceful spot with a great view. Nothing fancy, just the basics. Toilet, sink (with hot water!) and kitchen sink for washing up. The ground was nice and flat and the hedges provide a bit of extra shelter from the wind.

Lovely site, great amenities that were also eco friendly, river is right there for a swim or kayak and the morning views were beautiful. We were the only campers so it was super quiet but Jonathan was close by if we had any issues. Would have loved to have stayed longer!

A beautiful, peaceful place to camp for a few days. We loved the rope swings over the river and how the butterflies gorged on fallen apples in the orchard. Lots of space even over the bank holiday weekend.

Bij dit terrein past het woord camping niet zo goed. Het voelt meer als wild kamperen met iets meer mensen in de buurt. De eigenaar stelt een enorm terrein beschikbaar om je tent of camper neer te zetten. Veel velden zijn op een helling dus wat minder geschikt. De velden aan de beek zijn vlak en het meest gewild. Toch heb je ontzettend veel ruimte als kampeerder. Het pad is uitdagend en heeft wat kuilen en bulten. De hoger gelegen velden zijn denk ik alleen te bereiken met een 4 wiel aandrijving. Je staat daar dan ook ver weg bij de wc’s. De eigenaar is een rommelaar, maar wij konden daar wel doorheen kijken. Het erf is nogal rommelig en onderweg naar de velden ligt links ook nog een bult afval. De eigenaar zorgt goed voor zijn dieren. Wij stonden op het veld waar ook een veldje afgezet was voor geitjes. Ze werden iedere ochtend goed verzorgd. Bij de beek is het prachtig! Er staan hoogspanningsmasten door het terrein maar dat stoorde ons op dag 2 niet meer. Eigenaar is erg vriendelijk. Wc en douche is basic zoals we gewend zijn in Engeland, maar prima. Al met al hebben wij 3 heerlijke dagen gehad op deze wildkampeer camping.

We had a wonderful stay in Jonathan's land. He is very welcoming and helpful. From the camp, we had beautiful views of the river and felt truly immersed in nature, surrounded by the silence. A compost toilet and a cute and spacious shower in a horse box were all the services we needed to make our stay comfortable. We would love to go back one day!

Lovely spot (or spots) to pitch up and stay. Easy to find. Signs make it easy to find where you need to be. We arrived around 9pm and called to inform the owners we were here but didn’t receive a response. I messaged here too but didn’t receive a response. I noticed on the website it says check in until 8pm however not listed on this app, so appreciate this is why we may not have gotten a response. Showers and toilets close by. Lots of space and different areas to choose from. Rivers with many tire swings close distance and even closer if you get there on time 😸 The only downside for us was the showers were freezing. They teased us with a tiny bit of heat only to turn cold. Grateful to be able to shower however so still solid 4/5 overall :)

Great place feels like campsites of yesteryear lovely welcome quick intro to the site and go find a spot great for car vans and off grid prepped vehicles with quarry area and river side . Thoroughly recommend we loved it dog loved it kids too

Weekend Trip to The Enchanted Wilderness

We had such a lovely, peaceful stay at Jonathan’s. Our pitch was perfectly tucked away with a wonderful view of the river. Our three year old loved exploring and seeing the chickens and ducks roaming around the farm. Fresh eggs for breakfast were very much enjoyed! Jonathan was a brilliant host, friendly and helpful and great communication. Would highly recommend for a peaceful get away if you like a simple wild camping set up. The location is magical, we hope to return one day soon!

Lovely place, staff are so welcoming and also theres a very friendly chicken. Stayed up by rock wood in my tent. Was a fantastic spot with views at night. Showers and toilets are clean and work fine 🙂 Would highly recommend 👌
