Head for the harbour to watch the fishing boats landing their daily catch and perhaps to sign up for a trip out to sea to try your luck or to visit the wildlife haven of Looe Island. Kids will love crabbing from the town’s Banjo Pier and rockpooling on Hannafore Beach, on the west side of the river. For sandcastle building and swimming, stick to the beach at East Looe, where there are gently sloping sands within easy reach of town. You can learn about the history of the town at the Old Guildhall Museum and Gaol, tuck in to fresh fish and chips and discover Kilminorth Woods. You can also hop aboard the Looe Valley Line trains for a scenic ride inland to the market town of Liskeard.

Family-friendly attractions include Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary on the outskirts of town and, slightly further afield, Porfell Wildlife Park.
