Situated in the heart of the Dorset countryside, Thorncombe Farm offers a warm, friendly welcome. Our mostly flat campsite has beautiful views into the valley and comes with all the amenities you would expect from a small site, with the add bonus of fresh free range eggs and home produced meat, burgers and sausages available for pre order! Bell Tents For 2023, glampers and those that want to take the hassle out of pitching/buying a tent/less baggage in the vehicle or even those that want to try camping under canvas for the first time our site has 3 (5 metre) furnished bell tents each with a separate dining area complete with seating and table. The tents have been upgraded with deluxe double and 2 single beds, carpeting and rugs , storage cabinet and mirror. We have now supplied electricity to the tents so we can provide a small fridge, recharge points for devices, In addition each bell tent has a fire pit and barbeque and a double ring gas stove. Four settings of cutlery , plates and mugs are supplied with a wash bowl. The beds are supplied with a top sheet only. So please bring what you need or a sleeping bag. Each booking is for a minimum 2 night stay and is for up to 4 people. Priced from £70/night We can supply 2 additional Disco beds bunks to take the total to six guests . The additional guests would be subject to a supplemental charge.Any queries please contact us before booking if necessary. CAMPING All are grass pitches only. and we retain the same facilities. There will be 25 pitches available. Please note at Bank Holiday Weekends it is a minimum 3 night booking. Fri-Sunday.We allow fires and Barbecues. All we ask is the barbecue or fire pit is off the ground and does not burn the grass of the campsite.There are fire pits for hire on a first come first serve basis at £5 for the duration of your stay. There is firewood available for sale Showers are no longer on a card system; Free as they should be Absolutely no pets in our bell tents whatsoever on the grounds of hygiene, health and the welfare of other guests , guest will be asked to leave if pets are found or seen in our bell tents. Pets welcome as per existing rules just not in our tents.

New for 2024, Nine Yards Bell Tents have teamed up with Farrington’s Farm to offer our first ever, family only glamping site. Based in Farrington Gurney, a mere 13 miles from the centre of Bristol and 10 miles from the centre of Bath, the site boasts a soft play barn*, the Little Pottery Barn, where you can can your own ceramics, the Farm Park with its outdoor play area, straw pool, slip and slide plus the chance to pick your own sunflowers too**! There’s an onsite farm shop packed to the rafters with delicious, organic produce, direct from the farm; locally sourced jams, cakes, chutneys, baked goods, ready meals and over 50 cheeses which are all perfect for putting together a picnic for your day trips; fresh meat supplied by Tunley Farm Butchers and a wide range of alcoholic drinks, for mum and dad to unwind with too. And if you don’t fancy cooking, there’s the traditional fish and chop shop, the main cafe and play barn cafe, which both offer a selection of fantastic homemade fare for your delectation. Our luxury 5m bell tents are generously spaced and feature real beds with winter tog duvets, 2 pillows with a throw per bed. There is also matting throughout, a solar lantern, small table, mirror, general bin and recycling bin. You can find out more about our tents here. The camping area has hot showers, flushing loos, sinks for hand/dishwashing plus benches, tables and bbq/fire pits for your use too! Single parent discounts are also available, contact us for more information. Tents can sleep a maximum of 4 people in beds. If you have 2 adults and more that 2 children, get in touch to discuss your requirements. As a family only campsite we can not take bookings from all adult groups. Any groups of all adults arriving at the site will not be allowed to check in and no refunds will be offered.

Overview

Forest-themed fun is the name of the game in Moors Valley County Park and Forest, which lies along the Moors River. Walk, cycle, or ride a Segway around miles of leafy trails, go fishing at Moors Lake, or relax and admire the views on the Moors Valley steam railway. Woodland playgrounds will keep the younger members of the family entertained, but there’s plenty of entertainment for adults too, including Go Ape Treetop adventure courses, a bike park, and an 18-hole golf course. Bring a picnic to enjoy by the lakeside or stop by the park café for afternoon tea.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for peace and quiet: Back of Beyond has grass pitches, hard-standing, glamping options, and wild camping in the woods. It’s adults-only, plus there’s a dog park and lake. 
  • Best for a family camping holiday: Red Shoot Camping Park is less than a 20-minute drive, within the New Forest National Park, and has self-catering huts, kids’ play areas, and a family pub right next door.
  • Best for riverside camping: Woolsbridge Manor Farm has spacious tent and caravan pitches, all within walking distance of the park.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Campsites and caravan sites near Moor Valley can book up quickly, especially in July and August, and during school holidays. Early bookings are essential—up six months in advance for the most popular sites.
  2. You will need to pay a deposit to secure your campsite reservation; some sites ask for the full payment prior to arrival. 
  3. Be sure to check seasonal opening and closing dates, which vary by campsite. Many campsites open from March through October only.

When to go

Summer is peak season, but Moors Valley fills up with families on weekends and school holidays throughout the year. Make an early start if visiting at these times and book activities in advance to avoid disappointment. Walking and cycling are possible year-round, but other activities depend on the season. The steam railway runs from May through early September, while fishing on the lake is permitted from June through March.
