Its grounds run down to the banks of the Poulter river, and are lined with stands of acacia, sycamore, ash and oak trees which were originally donated to the first vicar by the Duke of Newcastle in the 1830s.
There's plenty of space around the site for traditional outdoor activities, with a rope swing and stepping stones over the shallow river and a bridge that's perfect for playing Pooh Sticks. In the surrounding area there are animal parks and nature reserves to walk around, or to head back further in time, you could take one of the trails through ancient Sherwood Forest, around quarter of an hour's drive away.
Guest facilities on site centre around the Cave Bar, a cool little space built into an exposure of 500-million-year-old sandstone, plus an outdoor terrace for sipping drinks out in the sunshine.

Adjacent to the owner’s home, the grassy pitches have scenic views of the countryside (a great side dish for breakfast times, that’s for sure). We had a lovely 2 night stay here over a weekend in March with our dog. The views straight from the pitch are wonderful. It’s really great (& very unexpected) that there’s a bathroom which was very clean. Chrome Hill & Parkhouse Hill are just down the road if hiking is your thing. We definitely recommend this place & will be returning. Thanks Alan & Lesa for a great spot to stay :-)

I stayed for two nights on an electric hardstanding pitch. The pitches are nice and spacious, and the facilities are clean and warm, with good hot showers.
I enjoyed taking a little walk along the side of the lake with my morning coffee.
There's a little shop on site for milk, alcohol, and snacks, and there are really good walking options right on the doorstep. The staff were friendly and helpful too. I will definitely stay here again.

We booked super last minute with a tentbox - had a great peaceful night - surprise snow in the morning too! Didn’t get to explore the site much due to it being a quick stop over but it looked nice, lots of people cycling and running - the only thing that would of made it better would of been a toilet - but if you’re in a camper this is a great spot!

This was our first real trip as newbie motorhomers. We had a lovely couple of days between Christmas and New Year. Site was busy but still peaceful. Hosts keep an eye on things and are more than happy to help if required. Hassle free booking. Plenty of space between pitches and plenty of room on pitches. The facilities are good and kept spotless. There are short or long walking tours to Castle Howard and a lovely walk along the lakeside. Take your walking boots as not really suitable for trainers.
Take extra hookup cables as it can be a long way to ehu points.

We loved this site, its overall size and simple spotless facilities, no fuss booking and check in, great location, gorgeous views, and a mud free level pitch despite the gails and rain we brought with us! Darren and Diana were fab, great communication, excellent care of the site and they even lent us a pair of grips when we found our gas tank valve has seized up and we couldn’t open it by hand. Hospitable hosts and a lovely site. Will definitely come back and highly recommend!

Lovely campsite, all of the facilities were clean and exactly what we needed. A 2 minute walk from a pub that served great food and perfect location for a number of walks.
Would definitely recommend!
