With westerly views over the Trent Valley and in the shadows of a ruined 18th-century windmill, this is a peaceful and scenic place to take a break indeed… Well-positioned too, with a generous handful of pubs, restaurants and cafés a scenic 35 minutes’ walk away in Gunthorpe alongside the river Trent. Radcliffe on Trent and Bingham are five minutes’ drive away for any other amenities you might (supermarkets, shops, restaurants, pubs and the likes). And if you’re after even more of a buzz, Nottingham city centre is 25 minutes’ drive away. Even with such good access to so many towns and the big city, the site itself is remote. It has 10 acres of hay meadows and woodlands for guests to explore and, of course, sublime sunsets over the valley. Enjoy after dark stargazing too. A quiet location but only a few miles inland from Scarborough. Four miles to the village of Ayton which has a convenience store, garage, chemist, fish and chip shop and restaurant as well as two popular pubs. The quaint village of Scalby is only a few miles away, and Dolby Forest with a variety of outdoor activities is also nearby. Well behaved dogs are welcome. There is a fire pit available for those evenings around the camp fire, and barbecues are permitted. Please note that facilities are limited. We are situated within the National Park and we ask that visitors respect their surroundings and take all their waste away when they leave.

What an excellent campsite!! Charltotte gave us great instructions of where to camp for a quiet time and it's such a large area we were spoiled for choice. We used one of the fire pits and Charlotte drove round in the evening asking campers if they needed more wood. The farm shop sold excellent food for the BBQ. We'll definitely be returning (the dogs loved it too).

I recently visited with my dog. I was meant to stay for two nights (had campervan issues). But the night I did stay was ideal for what I needed. Lovely spot with great views to pitch up. Toilet and cleaning area was kept incredibly clean. Access to the site was easy to navigate and Ann the host was excellent when it came to communicating and advice on places to visit. Plenty of walks in the area and there is a pub within walking distance with is always an added bonus. Will definitely visit again.

If you like the sound of having farm shops and ice cream farms nearby, as well as access to lots of walking and cycling trails, Stretton House Campsite should be a fine pick for you. It has a strict no noise policy after 10pm, meaning that you should get a peaceful night's sleep too. All rubbish must be taken home at the end of your stay.
