The hut has a cosy double bed, small table with stools and is heated by a wood burner, perfect for a relaxing comfortable stay. Rechargeable lanterns are provided and found in the washroom. There is a separate kitchen shed hut next to the Everdene Hut which has a generous supply of crockery, cutlery and pots and pans. A two-ring gas hob, kettle, barbecue, and fire pit are available for cooking. Water is provided in the hut kitchen. There is a shared washroom located at the farm (approximately 100m from the Hut) with a walk-in shower, WC and a small kitchen unit with a sink and draining board for washing up. The washroom also has a washing machine, tumble dryer plus a fridge with freezer compartment, trolleys and electricity for charging.

Whether you’re planning on darting down to Dartmoor National Park for hikes and the like or exploring sandy beaches and surf hotspots on the Devon coast, you’re going to need somewhere cosy to stay that’s within reach of it all. That’s exactly what you get with the shepherd’s hut at Northcombe Farm, just half an hour’s drive from Dartmoor National Park, 35 minutes from Bude and 40 minutes from Widemouth beach. That’s not all – the shepherd’s hut also has stabling facilities available for one horse, and with three bridleways nearby, there are plenty of options for outings. With two private fishing lakes, you’ll be free to spend the morning fishing for roach and tench if you wish. The river Wolf also runs through the site’s boundaries. It’s likely you’re already aware of the excellent beaches along the south Devon coast, but fab views can also be caught from the ferry or boat trips that operate around the coast. Soak up all that spectacular scenery from the South West Coast Path too, along with splendid seaside towns along the clifftop route. South Devon has three areas designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as a World Heritage Site, a selection of national nature reserves, Sites of Special Scientific Interest, forests, woodlands and parks. They’re all mighty good places to appreciate nature at its finest. Beaworthy (10 minutes’ drive) first, perhaps, for granite tors, standing stones and ancient woodlands? Or Dartmoor’s ponies, stannary towns and peaceful villages?

Lavender Lodge was well equipped with some lovely touches for your stay and comfortable. The deck and firepit face great views and watching the sunset was pretty special. The shower/toilet facilities are located nearby and always clean and tidy. The farm is in a great location with Sidmouth and Lyme Regis within an easy 20 minute drive. Sam was lovely and made sure I had all I needed.

We booked a weekend stay with our daughter and it was lovely, very peaceful and calm. She loved feeding the pigs! The hot tub stays hot for a long time once you’ve got it going so worth firing it up nice abs early. The site owners were always around and really helpful too.

Absolutely magical stay! From the moment we arrived at Steam and Stars, everything was perfect. The hot tub was preheated and ready for us, which was very much needed after the Friday traffic. Nothing was too much trouble for our wonderful hosts, who truly went above and beyond. Our dogs were safe and free to roam, which made the stay even more relaxing. The property was spotless, with incredible attention to detail. We were delighted by the thoughtful extras, like cookies and cake on arrival. The facilities were easy to access and had everything we needed for a comfortable break. The views were stunning — we were lucky enough to see a steam train pass by, adding to the charm! Amazing wildlife all around made it feel like a true retreat. We can’t thank the hosts enough for their hospitality. A fantastic experience that we’ll definitely be recommending! Communication was brilliant throughout!

Loads of thought has been put into the space, lovely individual garden with seating, hammocks, so nice to eat outside in the sunshine & to be able to use the outdoor hot tub after a swim. Duncan and Alexis live here with their young family and we want to continue to improve the biodiversity of the farm alongside building a sustainable farm business incorporating luxury rural accommodation and grass-fed beef and lamb. We are lucky enough to have a wide variety of wildlife on our farm including tawny and barn owls, deer, buzzards, pheasants, swallows, bullfinches, fieldfares and numerous bats, butterflies and beetles! Take a look at our Wildlife page. We follow a grass-fed, low input, regenerative agriculture philosophy. This means that (apart from our bulls, rams and boars which have to be bought in to prevent in-breeding) all of our animals are born on the farm. They stay with their mothers’ as long as possible growing well on their mothers’ milk and our beautiful grass. Apart from our pigs, all of our animals are only fed grass from the farm or hay (from our species rich hay meadows) in winter. We believe this is more sustainable, gives us a minimal carbon footprint and provides our animals with the best possible lives.
