Once the domain of the "king of Gobur" John Coghill, prominent member of the small community of Godfreys Creek, later renamed Gobur. 60 fertile creekfront acres skirted by tall and shady stands of redgum, yellow stringy bark and swamp gum, attracting birdlife and providing protection for the cattle grazing the pasture on "Coghill's flats" where the current campsites are located.

Gold was discovered in Godfreys Creek in 1868 and a rush ensued. Some mines producing healthy profits, some mines failing to cover costs. Large mullock heaps are visible around the immediate area, very little of the town buildings remain.
