The Cabin Experience Perched on a west-facing cliff edge offering spectacular views and the most amazing sunsets, our cabin features a comfortable queen bed with fresh micro-fiber linens, pillows and down duvet (in cooler months). Inside you'll find storage drawers and a fully equipped kitchen setup with cookware, plates, utensils, kettle and a coffee press. A large cooler keeps your food fresh during your stay (you supply the ice). The cabin is super comfortable for 2 people to sleep. But there is plenty of space for a tent or two down in the campfire area. Children (and pets) are welcome at welcome at no additional cost. Our only request is "leave it like you found it". Views and Outdoor Living The covered deck showcases breathtaking sunsets from handcrafted Costa Rican rocking chairs. A natural breeze keeps things cool and mosquitoes away, even in summer. Enjoy your private campfire area under star-filled skies, hammocks placed in perfect spots, and an outdoor kitchen with a wood-fired "rocket" grill, stovetop, and camp oven. Wildlife and Nature You'll definitely see deer and are also likely to spot one of our two resident foxes, soaring hawks, and possibly a bald eagle. At the lake, watch for loons and beavers. At night, you might hear distant coyotes or wolves howling, though there's no need to worry as they always keep their distance from humans. Exploring Our Land Our 164 acres features 10km of well-marked forest trails that connect to the Trans Canada Trail. Don't miss our private lake—it's a rewarding hike to reach this secluded swimming spot few ever experience. Location and Amenities Just 10 minutes from the Gatineau River, we have canoes for rent and can deliver them, and you, to the nearby launch. The calm waters above Paugan Dam are perfect for exploring islands and discovering swimming spots. The cabin is only a 3-minute walk from parking, but we'll transport your gear by ATV. We provide jugs of delicious well water, and surprisingly, cell reception is excellent. This is rustic living at its finest—no TV or fridge, just you, nature, and simple comforts. For more hiking adventures, step outside and you're right on the Trans Canada Trail. One of our favorite spots is the private lake at the back of the property. It's a bit of a hike to reach it, but that's what makes it special. Not many people get to swim in their own private lake! When you're ready for more water adventures, we're just 10 minutes from the Gatineau River. We can rent you canoes and drop them at the boat launch (5km from the cabin). The river above Paugan Dam is calm with no current—perfect for exploring islands, finding swimming spots, or paddling all the way to Lac St. Marie. Back at the cabin, you'll enjoy your private campfire area under the stars. Our wood-fired hot tub isn't just for soaking—its heating coil doubles as a grill for barbecuing. You'll find hammocks hung in just the right spots, and an outdoor kitchen with a stove top and camp oven for cooking. Don't worry about carrying your gear—it's a short 3-minute hike from the road, but we'll transport everything for you by ATV. We provide jugs of what we think is the best-tasting well water in the world. And despite feeling like you're miles from civilization, cell reception is excellent (you can even see the lights from the Low cell tower at night). Wakefield village is just 20 minutes away for supplies and restaurants, but you're secluded enough that if you choose, you won't see another soul during your entire stay. This is rustic living at its best—no TV or fridge, just you, the forest, stunning views, and simple comforts. The perfect place to unplug, decompress and unwind. Come find your quiet with us.

Just book it, you won't regret it!

The Cliffside Cabin

I just felt like getting out of the city for a bit and made a last-minute decision to visit the Cliffside Cabin. As a runner, I had a lot of fun on the 10km of trails that wind through the place Mike calls “The Ark”. The trails are really well maintained. Mike told me he leaf blows the entire distance at least once a month! I think I covered them all during my stay… but admittedly, my sense of direction isn’t the best and I was a bit “lost” on a couple occasions. Apparently Mike hosts a trail and snowshoe race series there called the Mad Trapper. So, I think I’ll try and book here again one weekend when he has a race going on. Another cool thing though is how perfect the surrounding gravel roads are for cycling. From my stealthy perch on the cliffside deck (which has incredible views, by the way), I spied maybe 2-3 cars passing during the day, but must have counted at least two dozen gravel cyclists. Next time, the bike is going on the rack as well. After the run, it was great to relax in the hammock with a book and sip a beer on the deck in a super comfy Costa Rican rocking chair. The cabin itself had everything I needed. It had a surprisingly comfortable bed that gave me one of the best nights of sleep I've had in ages. The complete quiet and fresh air just knocks you out in the best way. I didn’t have much cooking to do, but the “kitchen” had everything I needed. I grilled up some burgers on his tabletop “rocket-stove” grill, and scarfed em down. THE BEST!

The Cliffside Cabin

We spent a gorgeous and peaceful weekend at the Cliffside cabin. It had everything we needed for our offgrid/unplug and nothing we didn't - the bed was comfortable, the outdoor kitchen was well equipped, and a little fire in the massive fire pit kept us warm while stargazing. We took a walk on the trails out to the lake (watched some loons and a beaver!) before catching a beautiful sunset from the cliff. Michael was attentive to our requests both before and during the trip and was (bonus), really interesting to chat with. I would recommend this stay to anyone looking for a cozy getaway. Two seasonal notes - although temperatures dipped to 4 degrees overnight, we were perfectly warm in the insulated cabin. The early spring conditions also made the trails a little wet so we were glad for our waterproof hiking boots.
