Derek’s space is a quiet spot near his home, overlooking Lake Huron.
In the morning we walked out onto the dock to appreciate the view.
Had the temperature been a little warmer, we would have liked to sit & have our coffee in the chairs provided beside the lake.
There is an extension cord for guests to use right beside the camper.
Derek was very helpful in getting us parked, as we arrived after dark.
He also volunteered information about a hiking trail that follows the lakeshore, should we want to go hiking the next day.
We really appreciated having a safe, quiet place to spend the night.
We could certainly see why Derek is designated “superhost”.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Derek’s. Derek is a wonderful host. Friendly and very welcoming. Showed us around their GORGEOUS property when we arrived and offered use of kayaks and dock. Beautiful spot to spend an evening. Lovely views and very quiet, peaceful sleep. In the morning, Derek directed us to the fairly new coastal trail which was the perfect stretch before continuing our journey. Don’t hesitate to stay here if you are in the area. We will be back if we are travelling through Thessalon again! Thanks Derek 👍

Beautiful spot. Perfect for an overnight stop like we did but a longer stay would be great too especially if you want to get on the water. The view from the dock is priceless both during the day and at sunset. Derek is a great host. Five star hospitality.

We loved staying at Derek's place! Great place to enjoy quite evening with a spectacular view! We were able to use kayaks, so we had a beautiful evening kayaking on the Lake Huron and up the Thessalon River under the iconic Red Bridge. City of Tessalon is a small town with a big sense of community and beautiful beaches. Derek is a great host!

Derek was a very gracious host and met us on arrival. He showed us where everything was, and offered power hook-up (very welcome on a hot day!!), potable water and internet. It was pure heaven at this peaceful and beautiful spot. What is not to love about sitting on a dock on an Adirondack chair overlooking Lake Huron and hearing the waves lapping? The parking spot was flat, easy in and out and had a view of the lake as well. A picnic table was right outside our door. When traveling in this part of Ontario again, we would definitely request to stay! Derek’s home is beautiful and shows great pride of ownership. The other homes in the area are further away and everything felt very private. Highly recommend.

It was a beautiful view indeed. The camping spot is in the driveway of the home, but the host was accommodating and gracious. We used our camper for privacy and enjoyed ourselves very much. Derick gave us biking and running routes so it was fun to see the area from a locals perspective.

Absolutely lovely hosts, easy access to electric and h2o, Delicious and invigorating dip available to those in love with “The Great Lakes Life”. Oh and did we mention, the view?!?!? We hope to return!

Derek is a fantastic host! He accommodated our needs and went above and beyond to write out a map of a nearby hiking trail. Quiet, beautiful and relaxing.

Tough to Beat the View
As the name says, this place is Tough to Beat. The back deck looking out over the water is gorgeous and a peaceful place to sit, read or work. Parking is easy and nearly level. Derek is an amazing host, helping me with my eBike, then taking me for a ride to a beautiful spot I never would have found on my own. But my favorite was the kayaking! Thank you for sharing your space, kayak and your time. I hope to return!

I’m glad I stayed here on my drive through since the lake view and the town are both so pretty. Very nice host and I definitely would stay here again, maybe on the way back.

A lovely setting on Lake Huron. It really is Tough to Beat the View. Nice hosts and it was great to have access to an electrical plug-in.

What a beautiful respite after a long wait crossing the border! The house was on a hill overlooking Lake Huron and we sat on the rocks enjoying our happy hour in a very special spot. Electricity and water were readily available and it was just a quick block into the charming small town and over to the docks. Derek was there to warmly greet us and responded quickly to any texts.

An absolutely fabulous spot on the shore of Lake Huron. The house and grounds are meticulous. Derek and Patti are gracious and caring hosts. We were able to plug into power for the night. Our angled parking spot in the driveway gave us an awe-inspiring view of the lake and the sunset. Thessalon is pretty quiet, but the water views are numerous and it would be a great place to canoe or kayak. We will definitely return.
