Welcome to kootenay Born Camping and retreat. Enjoy spectacular mountain views and the crystal clear waters of the beautiful Arrow lakes. We are just across the lake and are accessed by the first electric on demand shuttle ferry service in BC. A 3-4 min ride across with some of the most spectacular mountain views the area has to offer. If you are looking to escape the crowded tourist areas for the solitude of the natural world but want to feel safe and comfortable, then this is your place. We are surrounded by hiking, biking and ATV trails waiting to be explored. A few miles down the road is Saddle mountain hiking trail, a challenging trek with breathtaking views the entire way. At the top of Saddle Mountain is a look out cabin with 360 panoramic views. A short walk from the camp through old growth cedar groves will lead you to Arrow Lake where you can enjoy all types of water activities or take a stroll to explore the lakeshore. Grab a kayak or SUP board and explore our many secluded sandy beach spots. Reconnect and unwind, breath the fresh air and enjoy wonderful nature walks. The town of Nakusp is only 15 minutes away where you can find cute coffee shops, restaurants and boutiques. There are 3 beautiful hot springs all within 35 min of Nakusp as well as an Epic bike park 15 min outside of town Come and enjoy our beautiful wilderness, It's a whole other world over here.....

This site has beautiful mountain views and is the first to get evening shade. It offers a beautiful handcrafted picnic table and a level grassy area to set up your tent. Parking is available just outside of the grounds once your camp is set up. All sites are a short walk through old growth cedar groves to the lake shore where secluded sandy beachy areas await exploring. Pit washroom facilities, on demand hot shower and covered shared outdoor cooking area and eating area are provided. There is mountain spring water available for washup and cleanup areas. Bri g your own drining water. You are encouraged to pack out your own garbage however we will take it for a $10 per bag fee if you'd prefer.

Large open field with panoramic mountain views where guests can bring their RVs or camper vehicles and pick the perfect spot to spend time in the great outdoors. We are a 5 min walk from Arrow lake. There is a free boat launch at the shuttle ferry dock. This space is located on the upper side of the property where the views of the surrounding Scalping knife and Ingrisol mountains are stunning. Enjoy tranquil walking trails and the refreshing waters of Arrow lake. There are many beautiful lakes around us to explore as well. If hiking is your passion, the the amazing Saddle Mountain Trail head is 18 km away. At the top of the mountain is a quaint forestry cabin with 360° views where you can enjoy epic sunsets and stay in the cabin for the night if the space is available.

This beautiful locally hand crafted tiny house, is located close to all amenities and has a breath taking view of the surrounding mountains and forests. With private decks to enjoy your views, heat and air conditioning, electricity and water you will feel the wonders of nature without having to give up some of the comforts of home. Your Tiny is equipped with a fridge and it's own outdoor cooking stove and BBQ, coffee maker & tea kettle. All bedding and linens are provided as are cook/dishware and utensils. A quaint, clean outhouse and on demand hot shower are steps from your door. Enjoy walking and biking paths immersed in nature right from your door. We offer complimentary bicycles and kayaks ( we have life jackets but please bring your own if you like and bring your bike helmets) for guests to explore our beautiful surroundings. Sandy secluded beaches await you. Even though it feels like you are in the wilderness out here, we are only 15 minutes from the town of Nakusp where you'll find quaint coffee shops, restaurants and boutiques and a save on food for supplies. There are 4 Natural hot springs within 1/2 hour of Nakusp. Come stay and play!

Great spot to disconnect and unwind. Michelle is an awesome host. She checked in with us throughout our stay to make sure we were having a good time. The washrooms are spotless and the best I have ever seen at a campground. Will definitely be returning.

Quiet, serene setting with hiking, paddling, and swimming, just 1-2 km south of Arrow Park ferry on west bank of Arrow Lake. The hosts (John and Michelle) could not be more helpful, friendly and accommodating. My return is assured after three-night stay. PS, bring your instruments and play list...just saying

Quiet, semi isolated location was a quick hop across Arrow Lake on a no fee ferry. Camping area has all of the basics with pit toilet, hand and dishwashing stations and a hot shower. A couple more picnic tables would be nice. Recommended for tents and small RVs.

We absolutely loved our stay on John and Michelle’s land! They are a laid back, easy going couple that are lovely to be around. Their dog, Boss, is a real sweetheart! They have a great little water spot about a 5 minute walk from the site and there are wonderful paths around for hiking and walking. If you want to explore, Nakusp is a real hidden gem. Check out the municipal beach and the park across from it (seriously, it’s so cool), grab some dinner at The Paddy Shack and milkshakes at the hut. If you love to shop, hit up Dorothy’s and the Mercantile for some lovely locally made treasures. And of course, if you want to just unplug (literally - no service, no wifi), staying at Kootenay-born is exactly where should be. It’s a peaceful little slice of paradise. We feel truly renewed and refreshed. This was exactly the vacation we needed to get away from it all for a while! One thing to mention: the microwave in the camper doesn’t work, so don’t bring microwave dinners. If there’s a fire ban, you’ll be cooking on the frying pan.

Our stay at Kootenay Born was absolutely outstanding! John and Michelle were incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond, sharing the history of the area, their favorite hidden gems for hiking and swimming, and encouraging our boys to explore and enjoy the beautiful, uncrowded surroundings. We were the only RV during our stay, so we had the upper meadow all to ourselves, surrounded by wildflowers and stunning mountain views. The nearby tent area offers clean hot showers, toilets, potable water, and a convenient dishwashing station. The location is perfect—we loved it so much that we extended our stay. The ferry is quick and easy, making it simple to spend some days exploring Arrow Lake and others visiting Nakusp, New Denver (don’t miss the bike park!), and Halfway Hot Springs, which is an absolute must. If you’re bringing an RV, we recommend stopping at McDonald Creek Provincial Park to dump your tanks and fill your fresh water before taking the ferry. We can’t recommend Kootenay Born highly enough!

We loved that they had a couple trails right down to the water to swim. They provided kayaks and inflatables to go out on the lake which was a nice bonus. The site was well maintained, the shower and outhouse were much nicer than expected! The hosts were very welcoming and we really enjoyed our stay.

As we sat in our comfy camp chairs outside our RV, next to a field of wildflowers and daisies my husband said, “This is what tranquil is.” I wholeheartedly agree! John and Michelle have a beautiful, relaxed and quiet place to stay. Beautiful mountain views, happy trails, and kayaks available to go out on the beautiful lake. We will be back!! Saddle Mountain lookout is on our bucket list for next trip when we aren’t recovering from knee issues. Gorgeous four-wheeling getting to the trailhead.

What a beautiful campsite! Number 6 and 7 are sheltered in the trees, so peaceful. The camp had a great selection of games and a well maintained common area. There was a nice kitchen, shower tent, and outhouse set up. Especially loved the access to kayaks to use on the lake. I cannot recommend enough! The hosts were very friendly, easy to communicate with, and had lots of great suggestions for activities in the area. Will definitely be coming back again!

Beautiful Campsite nestled in tall trees. Very spacious and great coverage from the sun, wind and rain. John and Michelle were friendly and quick to respond to anything we needed. Nestled in a beautiful area. Toilets were clean and odour free.

Couldn’t recommend tent camping at Kootneys Born highly enough. Amenities were fantastic and accurately advertised. I loved the covered outdoor eating area and kayak. Tent sites are level and well maintained. Hosts are responsible and helpful but also give you your privacy. Chefs kiss on this place. Book it. I’m already making plans to come back. The ferry was lovely too and very convenient.

My partner and I had a wonderful weekend at Kootney Born Campsite! John and Michelle were so welcoming and we're always available for any help needed. The campground is in a lovely peaceful spot along the Arrow Lake and has, games, running water, a shower and provides firewood as well as a communal gas cooker. We really enjoyed the complementary kayaks and exploring the local areas. I would definitely recommend this campsite to anyone and I hope to return some time in the future!

The cute little ferry was awesome, and the directions to John and Michelle's were straightforward. We got to nest in a bunch of trees and enjoy the lake and kayaking available. We visited too late in the season to fully take advantage of all the fun stuff to do, so we'll be back in the warmer months!

Kootenay paradise!
Mountain view micro cabin
I can’t wait to come back! John and Michelle have created a lovely and thoughtful way to share their piece of Kootenay paradise. The micro cabin has everything I needed and I’ve never slept so well - incredibly quiet with stunning mountain vistas (and the view from the outdoor shower is top notch). Appreciated having the camp stove and propane, hot showers, clean ‘drop’ toilets, towels, wash station with soap and sponge right outside the cabin, bedding, and of course, Boss the friendly dog. I think I saw every star in the galaxy after dark. The adorable (easy and quick) ferry across to their property was icing on the cake.

Camp site was nice with very clean and pleasantly decorated outhouse. Provided with hot shower and sink for washing. All made camping more comfortable. We enjoyed catching the ferry back and forth. View of the surrounding was great.

Top 10 for sure
Mountain view micro cabin
One of the best places we stayed throughout the hipcamp camping sites we have visited. Great place for bikers to pitch tents and use the covered kitchen, or stay in a micro cabin that includes everything you use at home. The showers are great and washrooms clean and easy to use. Peddle bikes available for biking some awesome trails there and pathways down to the lake where they also have kayaks you can paddle out on the lake. We really wish we could have stayed longer because John and Michelle were so accomodating and inviting. We can't wait to go back with our RV and tour the many lakes with our ebikes. I also notice great tenting spots with hammocks deep in the wooded trees, so cool. Definitely booking for next year.

This campsite is truly a hidden gem. The setting is serene, with spectacular views and a peaceful atmosphere. After a long day of hiking, the hot shower was such a welcome comfort and made the stay even more enjoyable. John and Michelle are welcoming, and ensures you feel comfortable from the moment you arrive. The campsite is well-maintained and thoughtfully set up, which adds to the overall relaxing experience. I would highly recommend this place and will definitely return.
