Dungeness Island in Washington
Host Robin Ross says:
Word from the "Coho Stalkers" is that the Coho are now in the river in large numbers.
Dungeness Island is just that - a small island in the middle of the beautiful Dungeness River. Surrounded by forest and beautiful mountain and river views with many trails to explore, swimming hole and shallow water for pets and kids play.. It really is a destination as well as a great camping experience. Even though trails go through the Salmon Pool and Pic/Nap sites, other campers do not access those trails when Site 2 and; 3 are occupied. The trails are not accessible to the public as they are on private property. Alternative routes to the Salmon Pool and main river bank are available to guests not occupying trail campsites1: the Dungeness Wanderer site is to the north with easy access to the main river, woodland trails abound, with one that is a 1/4 mile walk to the Dungeness Railroad Bridge Park, as well as to some of the best swimming and fishing holes on the river.
Site 2 is The Dungeness nap and picnic site is on the trail that leads to a peaceful riverbank spot to picnic - or nap and enjoy the peaceful, relaxing sound of the river.
The salmon pool trail is the 3rd site and is located on the trail that leads out to the east bank of the main river where one will be mesmerized by the the King Salmon and Pink Salmon now resting in the pools that will soon be full of the wild Coho run, followed by the hatchery Coho run. Stay awhile and wander the Dungeness to your hearts content.
