Our varied collection of farm animals includes; lots of chickens, (including roosters who DO crow in the early morning hours), miniature goats, horses, a couple of barn cats, and a dog. Our off grid house is nestled in the forest on approximately 5 acres we call Jacobs Landing. It overlooks the wetland of Long Sault Creek, fed by Barbers lakes. The wee house is a pleasant 300 foot walk into the forest off of the main dirt road. There is parking on the property and a gate that can be closed for the ultimate feeling of privacy. Jacobs Landing was designed for an off-grid tiny home in the forest experience. Accommodating two adults only. We prefer no pets as we have much wildlife living in the forest and around the house. Our area, also known as the land of lakes, is gleaming with local farmers markets, great food, artisans, walking trails, many lakes and so much character. We hope you enjoy browsing through pictures and getting familiar with our Forest house. I have just completed building our forest dream and am very excited to share it. I will be working hard on the gardens this spring, with hopes to have fresh vegetables in season for our guests. We also continue to upgrade our walking trails. The forest house is an off grid set up that runs off of solar panels that charge batteries. With this system we are able to run the water pump and supply an inverter to charge devices. Most of the lights in the house are battery operated it doesn’t take much to light this place up. Our water is collected with two 1000 gallon drums supplied by natures finest, our rainfalls. With the water collected I was able to supply a kitchen sink and a shower. Our hot water on demand system works well for the shower. There is a gravity operated sink just outside of the privy. The perfect place to capture or recapture tranquility. An unplugged space for a clear mind, we take pride in being free from WI FI, hydro electricity and cell service is scarce. Signals vary in the forest depending on your server. Our forest house has a cozy, comfortable and unique ambiance. A wood stove for those chilli nights and mornings. An antique, but well functioning ice box. A cozy reading loft, cribbage board, cards and dice. Parking is off the dirt road and about 200 meters from the forest house. It’s a short and lovely walk. We use our UTV to get to and from the forest house and are more than happy to carry your belongings for your convenience. You can shut the gate for a sense of complete privacy once you’re in. Jacobs Landing lies next to Long Sault Creek and its Wetlands. We’ve made sitting spots along the marshland for birdwatching. Barbers lake is situated across from the main house (a ten minute walk). It’s a beautiful spot to spend some peaceful time on the water. A quant quiet lake with little population, no seadoos or speed boats make it a perfectly peaceful body of water with ample wildlife. Whether you enjoy fishing or just enjoying the great views and peaceful tranquil paddling you will certainly enjoy Barbers Lake. Don’t forget your camera! We have a barbeque outside and a two burner propane cook top inside. If you’re staying in the cooler seasons the woodstove works nicely for warming up soup and heating water. We offer a fire pit when there is no “fire ban”. Feel free to gather dead wood in the forest, and we offer wood for sale. When the “ban” is on, or the mosquitoes are annoying. Enjoy a lit screened Gazebo. There will be a visible notice posted in the forest about fire status. We take very much pride in what we have built, it truly is a place of tranquility. My greatest reward will be sharing this with you. I strive to be a great host. This is all new to me, I look forward to meeting you all and welcome your feedback. Available for June 2024

Camping at the 103 Acre woods is part of the Marlborough Forest. It has groomed pathways in the meadow and rustic pathways through the woods for your hiking pleasure. If you are interested in backwoods camping, it's easy to do here, park your car in the driveway, grab your gear, and head to the back forty! If camping is not your thing and you just want some private land for the day, such as a photo shoot, or just wandering around, firepit lunch or firepit dinner, just book a site. If you reserve both sites, the entire land becomes yours for the time you are here. I only list 2 sites for camping so you will have plenty of space and privacy from any other campers. Lots of space to spread out and have your privacy. If you want complete privacy, reserve both sites! For the tenting campsites, I have 2 available. One is in the front 40 near the playstructure and closer to the house. It's called the "Cedars". You can drive directly to your campsite. The other campsite is a short hike into the woods and is just off to the side. It's called the "103 Paces". When staying at the 103 Paces campsite, you can drive through the meadow and park just outside of the woods. From there, there is a lawncart you can use to transport your gear to the campsite. Each campsite has a firepit for your use and is close to a shared composting toilet. If you are staying in an RV, you can park in the driveway and still access all the other parts of the property. Tent campers can select anywhere they want to pitch a tent and enjoy the beauty of the 103 Acre woods. Depending on where you choose to camp, you might be able to drive right up to your site. Firepit and wood available for use providing there is no burn ban. Water from the hose attached to the house is available for use. You are welcome to use the outside outlets to charge your devices. RV Electric hookup can be used for an extra fee. I have a composting toilet in a privacy cabana. There will be sanitizer to sanitize your hands. The composting toilet is a shared facility for both campsites. Comes with toilet paper. If you prefer to have your own composting toilet, you can add that on for an extra when you are booking. It's 10.00 more for your stay. I have a few water jugs to have water at your site if you don't have your own jug. A compost bin is available for food. A trash can is provided for waste. Recycle bins are in use as well for paper and plastic. I have patio table that can be used at your site if it's in the front 40. Back forty, I have a smaller more portable table that can be used. It's not too heavy to port. Firewood is not necessary to bring, there is lots of wood locally here on the property to use, you just have to gather it up yourself. I have a wheelbarrow that can be used to transport it to your site. There are wetlands and forests and meadows. There is very little light pollution here. Come and gaze at the stars If you are lucky, you might get to hear the resident whippoorwill, he is nocturnal. The sky is beautiful at night. Wake up to the sounds of many birds. There is a play structure for kids with 2 slides and a bridge, monkey bars, swings, firepole, and climbing wall. There are many things to find in the back 40. You might find a vintage car bumper, and in the spring if you look really hard, you might come across Lady Slipper orchids. They are stunning in the wild. If you want to trudge through the wetlands, be sure to bring your rubber boots. In the front 40 you can take some fun pictures with a vintage abandoned front end of an Aston Martin truck. The 103 Acre woods is conveniently located 3K from the Rideau River and Canal in Burritt's Rapids. Burritts Rapids has a nice "Tip to Tip" trail you can hike on the island of Burritts Rapids. Also there is the Henry Street Park, which has a small beach on the Rideau River. The Rideau Trail is located nearby as well. There are many entrances to the Rideau Trail just minutes away. Located 10 minutes or so from Merrickville. Great fishing along the Rideal Canal lock system. Merrickville has a small beach on the Rideau River. Merrickville has a wonderful Gelato place "Stella Luna". Get your Gelato and walk back to see the boats in the historic Rideau Canal. Lots of history in Merrickville and Burritt's Rapids. If camping is not your thing and you just want some private land for the day, such as a photo shoot, or just wandering around, firepit lunch or firepit dinner, just book a site. If you reserve both sites, the entire land becomes yours for the time you are here. There are 2 well-behaved chiahuahua's who live on the property. They will see you at the meet and greet. They will for sure welcome you to their yard. Your dog is welcome, just remember to pickup after them.

Access to a secluded lake which is about 2.5 km x 0.5 km in size, and connected to Bennett Lake by the Fall River. The lake is rugged and remote - only 8 cottages on the whole lake. Swimming off the dock, or paddle over to the jumping rocks across the lake. Bring your canoe or kayak and explore the lake and wetlands. Or bring your mountain bikes and enjoy the backroads. This property is in the heart of Lanark County, with all amenities within a 20-minute drive. Lots of hiking trails nearby, and a nice sand beach at Silver Lake Provincial park 10 minutes away. We're not far from Murphy's Point and Sharbot Lake PP as well. If you like dark skies and quiet woods and going to bed listening to frogs and barred owls, or waking up with the woodland birds, this is the place. No artificial lights here, and you can see the Milky Way clearly on a dark night.

Deep, clean water for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, etc.  There are 2 firepits should you decide to have a campfire - one at the road site (RV and trailer) and one at the waters edge.  This property provides privacy and solitude for nature lovers. The designated RV parking spot is up near the main road along with a very nice outhouse but if you decide to tent camp, there are a few choices that would bring you closer to the water's edge.  An additional outhouse is located at the top of the incline to the lake.  The gravel/asphalt trail down by the lake is the steeper of the 2 trails. Choose the "Easy Street" trail off to your right after you pass the stop sign indicating that no vehicles should drive beyond. This trail is a bit longer but a much more gradual incline. Grocery shopping, nature trails, etc are just a few minutes away. The scenic town of Westport is a 30 min drive away with amazing shops and a local winery.

The wee house is a pleasant 300 foot walk into the forest off of the main dirt road. There is parking on the property and a gate that can be closed for the ultimate feeling of privacy. Jacobs Landing was designed for an off-grid tiny home in the forest experience. Accommodating two adults only. We prefer no pets as we have much wildlife living in the forest and around the house. Our area, also known as the land of lakes, is gleaming with local farmers markets, great food, artisans, walking trails, many lakes and so much character. We hope you enjoy browsing through pictures and getting familiar with our Forest house. I have just completed building our forest dream and am very excited to share it. I will be working hard on the gardens this spring, with hopes to have fresh vegetables in season for our guests. We also continue to upgrade our walking trails. The forest house is an off grid set up that runs off of solar panels that charge batteries. With this system we are able to run the water pump and supply an inverter to charge devices. Most of the lights in the house are battery operated it doesn’t take much to light this place up. Our water is collected with two 1000 gallon drums supplied by natures finest, our rainfalls. With the water collected I was able to supply a kitchen sink and a shower. Our hot water on demand system works well for the shower. There is a gravity operated sink just outside of the privy. The perfect place to capture or recapture tranquility. An unplugged space for a clear mind, we take pride in being free from WI FI, hydro electricity and cell service is scarce. Signals vary in the forest depending on your server. Our forest house has a cozy, comfortable and unique ambiance. A wood stove for those chilli nights and mornings. An antique, but well functioning ice box. A cozy reading loft, cribbage board, cards and dice. Parking is off the dirt road and about 200 meters from the forest house. It’s a short and lovely walk. We use our UTV to get to and from the forest house and are more than happy to carry your belongings for your convenience. You can shut the gate for a sense of complete privacy once you’re in. Jacobs Landing lies next to Long Sault Creek and its Wetlands. We’ve made sitting spots along the marshland for birdwatching. Barbers lake is situated across from the main house (a ten minute walk). It’s a beautiful spot to spend some peaceful time on the water. A quant quiet lake with little population, no seadoos or speed boats make it a perfectly peaceful body of water with ample wildlife. Whether you enjoy fishing or just enjoying the great views and peaceful tranquil paddling you will certainly enjoy Barbers Lake. Don’t forget your camera! We have a barbeque outside and a two burner propane cook top inside. If you’re staying in the cooler seasons the woodstove works nicely for warming up soup and heating water. We offer a fire pit when there is no “fire ban”. Feel free to gather dead wood in the forest, and we offer wood for sale. When the “ban” is on, or the mosquitoes are annoying. Enjoy a lit screened Gazebo. There will be a visible notice posted in the forest about fire status. We take very much pride in what we have built, it truly is a place of tranquility. Camping at the 103 Acre woods is part of the Marlborough Forest. It has groomed pathways in the meadow and rustic pathways through the woods for your hiking pleasure. If you are interested in backwoods camping, it's easy to do here, park your car in the driveway, grab your gear, and head to the back forty! If camping is not your thing and you just want some private land for the day, such as a photo shoot, or just wandering around, firepit lunch or firepit dinner, just book a site. If you reserve both sites, the entire land becomes yours for the time you are here. I only list 2 sites for camping so you will have plenty of space and privacy from any other campers. Lots of space to spread out and have your privacy. If you want complete privacy, reserve both sites! For the tenting campsites, I have 2 available. One is in the front 40 near the playstructure and closer to the house. It's called the "Cedars". You can drive directly to your campsite. The other campsite is a short hike into the woods and is just off to the side. It's called the "103 Paces". When staying at the 103 Paces campsite, you can drive through the meadow and park just outside of the woods. From there, there is a lawncart you can use to transport your gear to the campsite. Each campsite has a firepit for your use and is close to a shared composting toilet. If you are staying in an RV, you can park in the driveway and still access all the other parts of the property. Tent campers can select anywhere they want to pitch a tent and enjoy the beauty of the 103 Acre woods. Depending on where you choose to camp, you might be able to drive right up to your site. Firepit and wood available for use providing there is no burn ban. Water from the hose attached to the house is available for use. You are welcome to use the outside outlets to charge your devices. RV Electric hookup can be used for an extra fee. I have a composting toilet in a privacy cabana. There will be sanitizer to sanitize your hands. The composting toilet is a shared facility for both campsites. Comes with toilet paper. If you prefer to have your own composting toilet, you can add that on for an extra when you are booking. It's 10.00 more for your stay. I have a few water jugs to have water at your site if you don't have your own jug. A compost bin is available for food. A trash can is provided for waste. Recycle bins are in use as well for paper and plastic. I have patio table that can be used at your site if it's in the front 40. Back forty, I have a smaller more portable table that can be used. It's not too heavy to port. Firewood is not necessary to bring, there is lots of wood locally here on the property to use, you just have to gather it up yourself. I have a wheelbarrow that can be used to transport it to your site. There are wetlands and forests and meadows. There is very little light pollution here. Come and gaze at the stars If you are lucky, you might get to hear the resident whippoorwill, he is nocturnal. The sky is beautiful at night. Wake up to the sounds of many birds. There is a play structure for kids with 2 slides and a bridge, monkey bars, swings, firepole, and climbing wall. There are many things to find in the back 40. You might find a vintage car bumper, and in the spring if you look really hard, you might come across Lady Slipper orchids. They are stunning in the wild. If you want to trudge through the wetlands, be sure to bring your rubber boots. In the front 40 you can take some fun pictures with a vintage abandoned front end of an Aston Martin truck. The 103 Acre woods is conveniently located 3K from the Rideau River and Canal in Burritt's Rapids. Burritts Rapids has a nice "Tip to Tip" trail you can hike on the island of Burritts Rapids. Also there is the Henry Street Park, which has a small beach on the Rideau River. The Rideau Trail is located nearby as well. There are many entrances to the Rideau Trail just minutes away. Located 10 minutes or so from Merrickville. Great fishing along the Rideal Canal lock system. Merrickville has a small beach on the Rideau River. Merrickville has a wonderful Gelato place "Stella Luna". Get your Gelato and walk back to see the boats in the historic Rideau Canal. Lots of history in Merrickville and Burritt's Rapids. If camping is not your thing and you just want some private land for the day, such as a photo shoot, or just wandering around, firepit lunch or firepit dinner, just book a site. If you reserve both sites, the entire land becomes yours for the time you are here. There are 2 well-behaved chiahuahua's who live on the property. They will see you at the meet and greet. We recommend that you park on the upper portion of this driveway/road and walk or use an ATV to travel on the trail to the lake. As mentioned, there is about a 40 ft incline just as you approach the clearing down by the lake . Please wear running/walking shoes and descend slowly down either of the 2 trails provided. The trail "Easy Street" is definitely an easier descent and climb. Learn more about this land: Situated just off the main road, The Ridge Retreat offers you the privacy and beauty of 6 unspoiled acres. Follow the gravel walkway/road down (5 min walk) to your amazing private dock situated on Howes Lake, Verona Ontario. Deep, clean water for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, etc.  There are 2 firepits should you decide to have a campfire - one at the road site (RV and trailer) and one at the waters edge.  This property provides privacy and solitude for nature lovers. The designated RV parking spot is up near the main road along with a very nice outhouse but if you decide to tent camp, there are a few choices that would bring you closer to the water's edge.  An additional outhouse is located at the top of the incline to the lake.  The gravel/asphalt trail down by the lake is the steeper of the 2 trails. Choose the "Easy Street" trail off to your right after you pass the stop sign indicating that no vehicles should drive beyond. This trail is a bit longer but a much more gradual incline. Meg’s land is absolutely beautiful. I have stayed at many Hipcamp properties and this is by far my favourite. You are surrounded by natural beauty all around. Meg is an excellent host and was incredibly helpful. From the moment I arrived she made me feel at home. It is easy to tell that she is passionate about her property and loves to share it with fellow nature-lovers. I definitely recommend spending the extra couple of bucks to have the composting toilet; It was very convenient. The location is also very convenient. It allows you to be away from it all, but only 15-20 minutes from anything you need or want. I highly recommend Meg’s 103 acres for your next camping trip to the area. I know I’ll be back!

Beautiful location, it’s as quiet as the description makes it out to be. The campsite area that was provided was well kept and tidy. Some of the amenities were not available due to the lateness of the season and were disclosed prior to arrival. It’s a pull-in site that I feel limits the overall length of vehicle and trailer to get brother location so I’d recommend you check with the host about that if you’ve got a larger rig and may need to coordinate things. I’m relatively new to backing in trailers and I got it parked without any damage (and no spotter). I didn’t have an opportunity to explore the land as much as I wanted, there’s so much to explore. Eric was very welcoming, and provided ample firewood.

First of all, id like to thank Brian and Jen for welcoming us on to their land. This was a fantasfic experience. Brain ended up meeting us and welcoming us to his area. He then took all of our stuff to site with his side by side. This spot was beautiful, set up extremly well and maintained and very quiet. We had a canoe to use, and although the water is shallow and weedy, a canoe here was a great time. We paddled and explored various islands. Night time the stars we great although the moon was too bright for them to truly shine, we were able to see saturn and its rings using our telescope. On our 4th and final day, brian and i had agreed on a time and he met us, using his side by side once again to cart our stuff back. He even helped us scour the site to make sure we didnt leave anything behind. Overall, it was an acceptional stay and the hospitality and kindness of Brian made it a trip to remember.

We had a great time at The Ridge Retreat! The campsite is beautiful, well-maintained, and the views are amazing. The fire pits were perfect, and we really appreciated how easy it was to set up camp near the road at the top of the hill. That spot is very convenient for loading and unloading gear, though being close to the road does mean you’ll occasionally hear passing cars and nearby dogs. Next time, we’d probably choose a spot closer to the water for more privacy and atmosphere. The trail leading down to the water and lower campsites is long with steep inclines, so be prepared for a bit of a trek. We brought a wagon, which made transporting our things manageable—without it, carrying everything would’ve been tough. The dock and water setup are absolutely gorgeous. We spent most of our days down there soaking in the views, and our dog had the best time playing by the water. We didn’t swim ourselves, and while we didn’t catch any fish, just being by the water was incredibly relaxing. The host was wonderful—very friendly, accommodating of our late arrival, and made sure we had plenty of firewood. Overall, we’d definitely recommend The Ridge Retreat to anyone looking for a scenic, peaceful camping experience with a balance of convenience and adventure.

It has an upper and lower level which is right on the water. The incline between the levels is steep, which may not work for some but was fine for us. I recently had the pleasure of staying at this property with my RV, and it was such a peaceful and refreshing experience. From the moment I arrived, I could feel how quiet and calm the surroundings were, making it the perfect place to unwind and recharge. The site was easy to access with my motorhome, and I felt comfortable and safe the entire time I was there. What I appreciated most was how natural and serene the environment felt. Waking up to the sound of birds and enjoying the stillness of the morning with a cup of coffee right outside my RV made the stay extra special. At night, the stars were bright and clear, reminding me of why camping is so unique compared to staying anywhere else. The property was well-kept and inviting, with plenty of space to relax without feeling crowded. Everything about the stay made me feel at ease, and it really allowed me to enjoy the simple things—fresh air, quiet moments, and a cozy place to park and rest. I will definitely be coming back again in the future. This is a place I would happily recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful RV getaway.

Weekend Trip to Fagan Lake Heights
This was our second time visiting Eric's camp site. Weather was cool at night but we were lucky that the fire ban was lifted and that there was lots of firewood to keep us warm. It is such a great spot to enjoy with friends, we had a great time floating on the clear lake, watching all the fish. There are some deeper spots and a jumping rock which was good for swimming. We were lucky to experience a meteor shower while we were there and the dock provided great viewing. Eric was very responsive and made sure we had everything we needed. Already looking forward to coming back!

It was close enough to washrooms and other amenities while still remaining private and like you were in the wilderness. Staff were excellent and attentive to any questions. Canoeing down the river was nice because you don’t run into other watercraft, and scenic with nice wildlife. Great walking paths through the forest and up past the waterfall. Would recommend for families with kids. Site 49, “private” tent site is nice for being out of the view of any other site.

The Naked Mitrewort

Learn more about this land:Welcome to The Naked Mitrewort! The site is located on the scrubby shores of North Frontenac's only Provincially Significant Wetland: Mud Lake. The wetland is part of Ontario's Mississippi River system, which stretches 200km from Mackavoy Lake to the Ottawa River. The wetland is a hotspot for biodiversity and indigenous history and is located just outside of the hamlet of Ardoch.This would be a great stopover site for a cyclist exploring North Frontenac's looping roads or for anyone who was unable to book a site at some of the more popular provincial parks like Bon Echo, Sharbot and Silver Lakes, or Frontenac. The terrain between the water and campsite is low, moist and scrubby with many trees that have fallen as a result of a big storm a few years ago. I just bought this property in Oct. 2020 and have done very few improvements since then (I have exciting things planned though!). There is an outhouse for your bathroom needs as well as a little platform near the water, but there isn't a clear path to the water yet, so tread carefully. The platform (and outhouse actually...) is on its way to being rotten, but it's good enough for a few chairs, but not a tent.  There is also a little swimming hole on the nearby crown land which would require swimming shoes or socks (sharp rocks), but it's a pretty neat place to snorkel as there is still evidence of the river's logging legacy. This spot is even more difficult to access but I will make a path eventually. The site is a little close to the road, so you will hear occasional vehicles driving by as well as other human activities in the distance, but it is generally a very peaceful location. You will have to forage for firewood, but there is no shortage of it as you will see. Keep fires small and, although it is very satisfying, please don't push over rotten snags (dead standing trees), these are important for woodpeckers and other creatures! Same with flowers, let's just take pictures and not pick them, some may not grow back! As you can see, I have a lot of work ahead of me making paths, clearing the view, etc. If you have chainsaw experience (or, even better, sawmill! or both!) and want to clear some deadfall in exchange for a spot to camp or park your RV (no hookup) for a weekend or week, send me a message and we can discuss possibilities. It doesn't always have to be cold hard cash. I am open to any ideas that would fit into this sort of description.Because this is still such a rustic site, I am offering you complimentary day passes to Lancaster's Resort on Mississagagon Lake. Here you will have access to the shower, washrooms, beach, trails, wifi, boat launch, kayak and canoe rentals ($25 per vessel per day) and more. Parking is at the lodge, just provide me with your licence plate number and that'll be all you need to enjoy the resort's amenities.There is a public boat launch for the Mississippi River right at the bridge - 4 mins drive heading northeast on River Rd. - limited parking.And in case you are wondering, The Naked Mitrewort takes its name from Mitella nuda, a tiny unassuming perennial plant found in wet riparian forests throughout Canada and the US and is abundant around the property.I look forward to hosting you!

We have a wilderness campsite on 112 acres of pristine Canadian Shield in a dense forest. Our home is located on the acreage however you can choose your own magical spot. Please note that if coming from the city - you will experience a lot of mosquitoes and other forest life. Bug repellent and mosquito or gazebo tents are excellent items to bring to protect from bugs. This is NOT a glamping site, and ZERO amenities are provided. That means you need to know how to go to the bathroom in the woods, bring your own water, and camp stove.There is a great video by Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI) on youtube to help you with going to the bathroom if you are unfamiliar. I also have the link if you need it. Kaladar is a small hamlet located at County Road 41 and Highway 7, otherwise known as The Lost Highway. Once upon a time, there was The Kaladar Hotel at the corner, with an interesting history.
