We are a small hobby farm set within a mature forest setting. There are two, newly built tiny home bunkies that are situated in private areas of our property, yet close enough to our main house for security, Each bunkie has a modern outhouse with composting toilets and non potable water for washing Guests will have the opportunity to commune with nature as we have a multitude of bird species and there is always good possibilities of wildlife viewing, as guests stroll down the nature trails. There are plenty of very cool areas along the trail where guests are able to participate in forest bathing/meditation or can just relax and listen to the wind rustling through the leaves of the trees. We have a couple of very gentle horses on our farm, that if anyone wishes, can schedule a time meet them and do some therapy grooming. There is also a small flock of egg laying hens that are quite social. We have a small on site store, which has some beautiful wood crafts that are created in our woodworking shop. Live-edge wood tables/charcuterie boards and other beautiful pieces as well as a large display of gorgeous healing crystals and metaphysical items are available for purchase if that's your interest. We are less than a 10 minute drive to Bobcaygeon, where you can find the world famous Kawartha Dairy, scrumptious restaurants, specialty clothing boutiques, grocery stores and pharmacies. Sturgeon Lake is the predominate lake with fabulous fishing/boating/ swimming. A 20 minute drive will get you to Fenelon Falls, Buckhorn or Kinmount where you will find the famous Kinmount Movie Theater that have the latest movies available. The Canadian Rail Trail is also nearby for anyone that wants to do some biking/hiking.

The cottage is at the edge of a large wilderness area. We supply an ultra-safe large canoe with paddles and lifejackets. It's an easy and fun 15 minute paddle to reach the cottage. The cottage is an artistic gem on a safe and quiet lake with beavers and loons and numerous bird species -- owls, herons, hawks, ospreys, and many migratory songbirds. In over 20 years of experience on the lake, we've seen no bears. It's a cosy three-room place with a small bedroom (8x12) with an antique double bed; a main room (16 x12) with a single bed; and a kitchen (8X12). Sleeps 3, max. Access to the cottage is up a short set of irregular stone stairs from the lake. This could be an impediment for elderly or frail people. The lake is not a private lake. There are other cottages. But it's a very quiet lake and often there's no one else there. The landscape is very similar to Algonquin Park's. North Kawartha is famous as the birthplace of the canoe. This is a thinly-populated landscape of rugged granite bluffs, thickly-forested hills and valleys, and gorgeous lakes that remain quiet and peaceful even during the hottest summer weeks. Natalie's bunkie is a truly magical place! The cabin itself is so cozy and thoughtfully provisioned with everything you could need all season round, from practical supplies like cutlery and cookware and a wood-burning stove to keep you warm on cool autumn nights to board games and paperback books and even a portable DVD player for makeshift movie screenings, if you can peel your eyes away from the view of the starry night sky. The bunkie sits on a scenic body of water and a waterfall that make for great canoeing and swimming or admiring over morning coffee, and the rest of Natalie's property is bursting with whimsical art installments as well as gardens, fire pits, fairy lights, and fields of flowers. My partner and I have visited twice - in the summer and the in the fall - and have found each season and each stay so uniquely gorgeous and relaxing. If you are looking for a place to retreat from the noise of the world, the bunkie is perfect. Natalie is so warm and welcoming and has put so much care and attention into providing people with a home away from home.

5 nights at Cabin in the Woods

This was my first Hipcamp experience, and Natalie has set the bar extremely high. She is a fantastic host - wonderful to deal with and very responsive. The Heron Bunkie was immaculate, and had everything you could need including a great little fridge, lights, a small wood stove (and wood), comfy bed and little touches like coffee (plus a coffee maker with filters) and ice cubes ready to go. The setting was lovely, despite the drier than normal conditions - peaceful. Multiple blue heron sightings, too, and a mystery critter in the pond. (She supplies binoculars!) Having coffee sitting on the generous deck was a treat, as was dinners prepared on the bbq. Amazingly, there were very few mosquitoes, so sitting outside to read or have a beverage was truly enjoyable. Being away from any city, the stargazing was stellar, too. My pup was made to feel really welcome, and she started to look for Natalie daily. All in all, a lovely, relaxing experience. Thank you so much, Natalie. You're the best. Not a surprise that Ginny didn't want to get out of the car when we got home!

Our third time staying at one of Kelly’s sites. Each one has been terrific, exactly as pictured. Pit toilets are cleaner and better equipped than some hotels! Kelly is a fantastic host. We really appreciated that she had her husband cut up a tree and bring it to our site for firewood as none was available for purchase and, being on motorcycles, she knew we would not be carrying any.

We loved tent camping at Island View. Kelly was a lovely host. She made sure we arrived safely and got everything we needed. She answered all of our questions and provided resources we asked about. I was able to text her leading up to the trip to ask any questions i had. The directions of getting to the campsite where great. The tent site we camped on had an amazing view. The site was well maintained, some trees cleared for an amazing view of the lake. Very open, spacious. The portapotty was clean, the fire pit was very nice, picnic table was nice there there too. To me it was the best campsite for the amount of people we had. We were two families, 4 adults, 4 children and a dog. Everyone had somewhere to run around. There was water access, a path was cleared for it but the kids wanted to just go downhill to the water (just kids being kids). A bit steep for small children but okay and nice to have access to water anyways. We saw big turtle which was very entertaining for kids. Walking trails are beautiful and there is a commmon area for all the campers with beach and playground that kids very much enjoyed. I kept being amazed at how quiet and peaceful and beautiful it was out there. The lake view and lucious forest were the perfect nature gateway. I absolutely loved camping at Kelly’s and look forward to coming back here again and convincing more of my friends to come. thank you Kelly!

Welcome to Backwoods Cabin Co. We have two unique glamping cabins available on our property located on the outskirts of Tweed and Madoc. The perfect spot to unwind, relax, and snuggle by the wood stove. There is a loop trail that goes around the entire 11 acres of land. There are markers along the trail so you know the boundaries of the area My family and I live on the property, we are here if you need anything urgently. We do spend a lot of time outside so the odd time you might hear our kids playing. We do have 2 VERY friendly dogs named Copper and Chief who might bark at you when you pull into the driveway but are on an electric fence so cannot get back to the cabin. We also have an outdoor cat named Wessie that may come and say hello. The cottage is at the edge of a large wilderness area. We supply an ultra-safe large canoe with paddles and lifejackets. It's an easy and fun 15 minute paddle to reach the cottage. The cottage is an artistic gem on a safe and quiet lake with beavers and loons and numerous bird species -- owls, herons, hawks, ospreys, and many migratory songbirds. In over 20 years of experience on the lake, we've seen no bears. It's a cosy three-room place with a small bedroom (8x12) with an antique double bed; a main room (16 x12) with a single bed; and a kitchen (8X12). Sleeps 3, max. Access to the cottage is up a short set of irregular stone stairs from the lake. This could be an impediment for elderly or frail people. The lake is not a private lake. There are other cottages. But it's a very quiet lake and often there's no one else there. The landscape is very similar to Algonquin Park's. North Kawartha is famous as the birthplace of the canoe. This is a thinly-populated landscape of rugged granite bluffs, thickly-forested hills and valleys, and gorgeous lakes that remain quiet and peaceful even during the hottest summer weeks. We are a small hobby farm set within a mature forest setting. There are two, newly built tiny home bunkies that are situated in private areas of our property, yet close enough to our main house for security, Each bunkie has a modern outhouse with composting toilets and non potable water for washing Guests will have the opportunity to commune with nature as we have a multitude of bird species and there is always good possibilities of wildlife viewing, as guests stroll down the nature trails. There are plenty of very cool areas along the trail where guests are able to participate in forest bathing/meditation or can just relax and listen to the wind rustling through the leaves of the trees. We have a couple of very gentle horses on our farm, that if anyone wishes, can schedule a time meet them and do some therapy grooming. There is also a small flock of egg laying hens that are quite social. We have a small on site store, which has some beautiful wood crafts that are created in our woodworking shop. Live-edge wood tables/charcuterie boards and other beautiful pieces as well as a large display of gorgeous healing crystals and metaphysical items are available for purchase if that's your interest. We are less than a 10 minute drive to Bobcaygeon, where you can find the world famous Kawartha Dairy, scrumptious restaurants, specialty clothing boutiques, grocery stores and pharmacies. Sturgeon Lake is the predominate lake with fabulous fishing/boating/ swimming. A 20 minute drive will get you to Fenelon Falls, Buckhorn or Kinmount where you will find the famous Kinmount Movie Theater that have the latest movies available. The Canadian Rail Trail is also nearby for anyone that wants to do some biking/hiking.

Algonquin Provincial Park

Enjoy the nearly untouched woodlands of Algonquin Provincial Park, just 50 minutes away from Bancroft. As Canada’s first provincial park, it’s home to giant moose, racing rivers, quiet ponds, and scenic hiking trails that traverse its 7,600 square kilometres. Explore interpretive walking trails and canoe or kayak river rapids. In the winter, try dog sledding or summer camp in the wild backcountry. Nearby campgrounds and RV parks are available year-round as well.

Egan Chutes Provincial Park

Waterfalls and old forests fill Egan Chutes Provincial Park. Drive 15 miles from town to enjoy popular park activities like hiking, canoeing on the York River, and birding. Hikers can also find both easy and moderately challenging hikes. Then, try nearby cabin rentals, RV parks, and campgrounds offering convenient amenities like restrooms, firepits, and picnic areas.

Petroglyphs Provincial Park

Home to the largest concentration of the country’s indigenous rock carvings, Petroglyphs Provincial Park also offers pristine forests and famed blue-green waters at McGinnis Lake. Campers can peruse the carvings of humans and animals at The Teaching Rocks while hiking the surrounding landscape. Although the park does not offer camping or cabin rentals, these accommodations can be found nearby or back in Bancroft.

When to go

Campers enjoy visiting Bancroft year-round. Although summertime is popular, each season offers outdoor fun. June through August is peak camping season, which is complemented by activities like swimming, boating, and hiking. While winter and spring attract fewer campers, there are still plenty of activities and campsites in operation; though it’s important to monitor the weather and possible road closures due to snow. After summer, autumn is Bancroft’s most popular season with its colourful foliage, fall festivals, and farmer’s markets.
