There are four acres of woods to explore right beside Townsend Lake, a small, quiet lake perfect for canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. The lake warms up quickly in the spring and is great to swim in. There is a cabin to sleep in and many camping items are provided, like a Coleman stove, tables, dishes, and a screen shelter. You will have access to the dock and a large fire pit area which are part of the owner’s cottage on the property. There will be a port-a-potty on site. Lake Townsend is close to several conservation areas and 12 minutes to the quaint town of Markdale with several shops, a bakery, and a large grocery store. The city of Owen Sound is 35 minutes away. Harrison Park and Inglis Falls are huge attractions in the area. Each area has its own beauty and the hiking path between the two is quite spectacular. Parts of the famous hiking trail, The Bruce Trail, are also easily accessible from Townsend Lake. But once you get settled in, you may just want to rest and relax at the lake! It has its own beauty and serenity and is home to many bird species and other wildlife. Cedar Acres is the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy nature.

Great spot for a short getaway. The lake is peaceful and perfect for kayaking, being able to utilize the neighbour's floating dock in the middle of the lake was a nice bonus as it was perfect for swimming and relaxing in the heat of the day. For any hikers, the Bruce trail is only about 20 minutes away. Would recommend Hoggs Falls conservation area as an access point, which also has lots of shorter looped hike options and is a nice little side trip. Plenty of firewood provided and the port-a-potty is the deluxe model.

We were fortunate to have Margaret’s property all to ourselves and loved the serene quiet of Townsend lake! From other reviews, sounds like Margaret is lovely host when on the property, which we didn’t experience first hand. It’s in an ideal location, close to charming towns and beautiful nature. And the lake was perfect for kayaking, there’s even a dock you can boat to for swimming! Margaret provided everything you’d need very thoughtfully. Just keep in mind, there’s no running water or electricity so pack smart!

I actually stayed at “The Glades” cabin that they also have hosted, and we are SO glad we came! From the moment we got there we were greeted by the friendly hosts and shown to the cabin, which was completely stocked with cutlery, cooking utensils, and more. There was plenty room to walk around inside, and the view to the pond was beautiful. The entire property is very beautiful, and if you walk along the paths you will find a cute little cabin village they have created in the forests. It’s very magical. Firewood was provided and after we ran out we had no problem finding lots more wood to keep it running. If your looking for a fun little Camping escape this is definitely somewhere you should stay, either the Poor House, or the Glades you will very much enjoy the scenery. Well worth the visit and would recommend to anyone. Thank you so much for being such lovely hosts

Margaret was a warm and friendly host. She helped us before we came, answered all our questions, and stayed helpful even after we arrived. The bunkie was cozy and easy to sleep in. They offered fun games both indoors and outdoors. There was lots of firewood, so we could enjoy a bonfire at night. This is a lovely place—quiet, welcoming, and full of good things. We hope to visit again soon!

We absolutely loved the cabin! This place is a hidden gem with so much to offer—kayaking, canoeing, cycling, tubing, indoor games, books, and more. This beautiful spot was re-forested with pine a number of years ago, and was sectioned off from the surrounding farmland, which is now maintained by the mennonite community. It is 8 1/2 acres of wetland and forest, with a mown perimeter, and cool places to tuck into the forest for the night. The current owner was a special educator, and now is slowly turning the land into her homestead. There is a beautiful, spa quality outdoor shower next to a tidy and 'fancier than most' outhouse, a strawberry patch as well as wild alpine strawberries all over the property, a big dog and a small indoor cat keep her company. Here is what the land offers: -Bunkie in the Forest: A sweet 8x8 ft. space with new bunk and mattresses as of April 2023 -Strawberry Fields bunkie: an 10x12 space with a loft with a queen memory foam mattress and a main floor with a full futon and a small table -Campsites: Meadow, Forest and River spots. Close to each other, but you'd never know it! All three are chill and serene places. The property backs onto a ten-foot swimming hole in an otherwise shallow part of the Saugeen River. -RV Spot: With electric hook up ideal for RVs 30 feet and under -a connection to the organization, 'Black Folks Camp Too'! The cabin has limited electricity for lights, ceiling fan, cell phone charging and WiFi etc. There is room to comfortably sleep 4. There is a single over double bunk bed and a roomy camp cot. Blankets are provided but please bring your own bedding (sleeping bags encouraged during colder months). The room also includes a mini fridge, diesel heater . There is a lovely wooden swing to relax on that also includes a propane BBQ for your use with cooking utensils. There is also a fire pit with a grill and a beautiful wooden outhouse just steps away from the cabin. Tents sites are available for groups larger than 4 but must be part of the cabin rental. There is agricultural land that is farmed in the summer as well we host bees at that back of the property . There are four acres of woods to explore right beside Townsend Lake, a small, quiet lake perfect for canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. The lake warms up quickly in the spring and is great to swim in. There is a cabin to sleep in and many camping items are provided, like a Coleman stove, tables, dishes, and a screen shelter. You will have access to the dock and a large fire pit area which are part of the owner’s cottage on the property. There will be a port-a-potty on site. Lake Townsend is close to several conservation areas and 12 minutes to the quaint town of Markdale with several shops, a bakery, and a large grocery store. The city of Owen Sound is 35 minutes away. Harrison Park and Inglis Falls are huge attractions in the area. Each area has its own beauty and the hiking path between the two is quite spectacular. Parts of the famous hiking trail, The Bruce Trail, are also easily accessible from Townsend Lake. But once you get settled in, you may just want to rest and relax at the lake! It has its own beauty and serenity and is home to many bird species and other wildlife. Cedar Acres is the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy nature.
