Welcome to Goonieland. We are an off-grid Permaculture farm perched on the edge of the Rocky Mountains. We are conveniently located between Yoho and Glacier National Parks, 20 minutes from Golden BC. The sauna campground is in a meadow above our farm with mountain views and creeks nearby.
The purpose of Goonieland is to learn, practice and teach permaculture, regenerative agriculture, and natural law, while moving towards sovereignty, intentional community, and ecosystem restoration.

Our campsite is located along the beautiful Spillimacheen River, in Spillimacheen BC which is 20mins south of Golden BC and 30mins north of Radium Hot Springs BC.
This property is very secluded and surrounded by crown land. It’s the perfect property to disconnect and reconnect, with limited cell service this allows you to turn off and just enjoy being outside in nature.
Campers can choose where to park along a large cleared area. There are designated campfire locations and an outhouse. From the property, you can Kayak down the river, please Google and research before launching as there are a lot of writes ups and kayaking websites that feature the Spillimacheen River.
Nature trails for hiking and walking right off the property. There is a well renowned natural rock wall for climbers 3km down the road, there are also a lot of websites that feature these rock walls.
Within a half an hour drive you have two easy hikes in waterfalls (the Lower Bugaboo Falls and the Brisco Falls).
Spillimacheen has a cafe and also a local market store that is full of delicious treats, beer and wine. The wetlands offer endless bird watching and beautiful mountain views.
If you require firewood you must order ahead of your stay. On site purchases are not available. We deliver the bundles the day of your arrival.

The campground was easy to find with lots of amenities and fun activities to keep busy with. We stayed at site #5 which was clean and private with lots of surrounding trees and a good size for my large SUV and a pickup truck with our kayaks.
We chose to explore the wetlands on our own but I wish there was more information/signage readily available for where to park, doc, and kayak as we didn't get a chance to speak with anyone from the campground while we were there. Using the electronic maps provided on the website and messages with the hosts, we were eventually able to figure it all out and had a lovely kayaking journey.
The worlds largest paddle was beautiful but again, not much signage and could easily be missed driving by which would be sad as it was a cool stop. Next time we stay here we will definitely check out the disc golf course, walking trails, and the slip and slide pond.
All in all this would be a great place to stop whether you have kids or are adults looking for a fun weekend adventure.

Weekend Trip to Sauna Under the Stars Camping
I love the GlamperVan! We only stayed the night as we were passing through but I could see myself spending more time here someday. Nicole was incredibly communicative and easy to chat with. Dane, the campground manager was super friendly and helpful too which was fantastic. The place was easy to find from Golden, and once we were on the property it wasn’t hard to follow the signs to the van. The campsite was already set up for us when we arrived and had everything we could possibly need for the stay. Yes, there were lots of mosquitos but you have to expect bugs in the woods! Just a fantastic stay and a great place to get away! Thank you for having us!

I loved everything about this place! I was just making a quick stop, but it would be great for families or even a family reunion and while I was there, it looks like they were planning an event Barn. It was lovely. Bring bug spray is my only recommendation.

1 night at Sauna Under the Stars Camping
The GlamperVan under the stars is a super cozy spot. I had found it for breaking up a long drive to Alberta and only stayed the one night. I would love to stay a longer period and enjoy all the amenities. Nicole sets everything up and has the spot ready for you to enjoy a quiet camping experience without having to bring all the gear.
The spot was easy to find and navigate, the view from my site was gorgeous, and I am looking forward to booking here again, maybe the Honeymoon site next! Thank you, we had a great stay.

Beautiful views. It was like you had the whole mountain to yourself! There was a nice level gravel pad to park the camper. The road up and down to it was a little tricky with our size rig (34ft 5th wheel) but we made it ok. The only negative (which is beyond anyone's control) is that the mosquitos were REALLY bad. We heard this is an exceptionally bad year for them. Otherwise the place was lovely!

This campground was one of our top highlights of our trip! Mark was so nice and accommodating. He gave us a map of his land and gave us some recommendations to check out. We ended up staying at site #1 and it was 10/10 beautiful, it had a stunning view. The waterslide and rope swing was so much fun! We made some great memories with another camper we met there. The land itself if just stunning and worth exploring around. Mark had created so many fun and unique areas for his guests. We will definitely be returning!

Weekend Trip to Sauna Under the Stars Camping
We got there right before they close access and left early in the morning so we didn't take the time to really enjoy what they offered. Nontheless, Nicole was very friendly and helpful with her recommendations for places to visit in town. The road from the entrance to the campsite will be bumpy so beware. It was slightly creepy from the entrance to the welcome booth because it felt like we were going the wrong way, but as soon as you see it you'll see a map and a welcome note from the host. The van was cozy and comfortable. They provide blankets, pillows, mosquito coils, firewood, and cooking gear. The van even had a small wooden stove to keep you warm, we just didn't use it. They offer food like eggs and sausages for extra and they own a market in town! The ducks roaming around were adorable and they had a sauna and cold plunge area. We enjoyed our short stay in Goonieland and would definitely come back next time we're stopping in Golden.

This was a great little getaway from the stampede festivities! It was so peaceful and quiet with a great view of the mountains. The bed was extremely comfortable, we slept throughout the night. The camper was clean and the campground was well kept. The only downside was the road in - the driveway as well as the dirt road to the campsite were rough. I wouldn't recommend taking a low vehicle to the site! Ours had 4WD but it was low so the drive was rough. Other than that, we really

The campground was great and had just a great of a view. There was a bit of mosquitos here, but becomes less of an issue with a campfire or just long sleeves and pants. They do offer a variety of activities on site and off. We did the canoe trip and was well worth it. Overall, it was well worth the value.

Such gorgeous setting and I loved how off-grid it was. The campsite is situated at the end of the hilltop area, and the wildflowers everywhere are so beautiful. There were mosquitoes and bugs, but that was to be expected during the summer months. Nothing that couldn't be prevented with proper measures, so plan accordingly. The outhouse, water station and shower are a short walk away. We didn't get to try the sauna, but all the more reason to come back, and we definitely will soon. The spaces between the campsites are very generous as well, so there's lots of privacy. I highly recommend!

Definitely one of my favorite places i have camped anywhere. The remoteness and the beauty and the peace! I’ve seen it said and agree that pictures just wont do it justice. The view was just amazing to take in. The wildflowers around the fire pit were so cool. Even the pit toilet was bright and comfortable! I would love to go back and spend more time there.

Beautiful place, high up in the mountains, Amazing view, well set up for a rustic campsite, composting outhouse, solar heated showers, the clamping van was super comfortable. The outdoors was definitely there, be prepared, bugspray, sunscreen and bear bells. Two blackbears wandered through not far according to another set of campers. Will probably stay agian. The road up is a bit treacherous though so a small camper would be probably all that could make it, thankfully thats what we have for next time.

Where to go
Moraine Lake
Lesser known than Lake Louise but just as beautiful, Moraine Lake is one way to escape the crowds—especially in the middle of summer. Personal vehicles are not allowed at Moraine Lake, but shuttles run from the town of Banff between June and October. Rugged adventurers can take the 10-hour hiking trail from Lake Louise—a challenging but rewarding route.
Castle Provincial Park
Halfway between Lake Louise and Banff’s town centre, Castle Mountain stretches 11 kilometres with steep shelves and cliffs that make it a prime spot for alpine rock climbing. Campers who like to keep their feet firmly on the ground can instead take advantage of the 7.4-km Castle Mountain lookout hike with 520 metres of elevation gain and a striking view of Bow Valley. Cabin camp nearby at the Blaeberry River or go glamping in the backcountry.
Johnston Canyon
Accessible from Lake Louise via Bow Valley Parkway, Johnston Canyon is an easy road trip add-on within Banff National Park. Wind your way down the elevated catwalks attached to canyon walls as the river gushes by. Then view the large waterfall from two platforms—a lower and an upper. It’s a 5-km round-trip walk with only a 30-meter elevation gain, so this is a prime spot for kids or campers looking for an easier hike.
Yoho National Park
Boasting 28 mountain peaks, Yoho National Park is set in British Columbia but only a 30-minute drive from Lake Louise (No public shuttles run in this area, so a private car is required). Take a break at Emerald Lake Lodge, or check out the Kicking Horse Pass National Historic Site—an engineering feat dubbed the “Big Hill” (and the highest elevation of the Canadian Pacific Railway). Watch trains from one of two Spiral Tunnel viewpoints as they head straight into Mount Ogden and Cathedral Mountain.
When to go
To experience the colour-saturated water, plan to arrive at Lake Louise before the lake ices over, any time between May and late October. June, July, and August are the best months for swimming, but the glacier-fed lake is chilly all year-round. December through March bring freezing temperatures, when winter activities are in full swing. The iconic lake generally draws big crowds—find a bit more room in the off-season, which includes late March, April, and November.
