Quiet, majestic back to nature spot!
This is a place to get away from a busy life.
With close proximity to Winchell Lake, this land is ideal for fishing, hiking or simply enjoying the breathtaking scenery.
We have 4 campsites available for tent or RV/trailer campers. If you're bringing an RV, we have two power outlets and water available. You will be parking on a field and the site requires levelling.
Electricity and firewood are both available for purchase (see extras below). Please add this to your reservation at the time of booking.
Campfires are permitted, pets are welcome. Potable water, picnic table, and outhouse are all available.
We have cows, goats, chickens, horses and dogs and cats on the property that
generally love people. :) I have only one dog and typically allow dogs to run off leash. We do have to be careful that it doesn't turn to a dog gang as this happened once and they took down one of my goats. The goats Hon and Chewy are okay but it took months for poor Hon to heal. I also worry about the chickens and the cats so please keep and eye on your dogs!
Lots of treed areas for private camping, horseback riding hiking and walking!
Bird watching is big around here as we are on a bird migratory path.
We are just above Winchell Lake and less than 10 km from Water Valley Golf Course and Saloon.
Please recognize that you are visiting a Ranch not a campsite. We are sharing our piece of heaven with you and you are helping to support our animals and their heaven.
Chickens are "True" Free Range and hand fed every morning. Eggs are $10 a dozen to pay for their feed. :)
Every spring the rain tends to cause ruts and washes out some of the road on the way to the back forty where the meadow is. We gather rocks on the property to fill the ditches but the early part of the year the roads can be bumpy. Please ask the conditions of the road when you book if you have concerns. Thanks!

This property is one of the last remaining natural areas around Sylvan lake. Our family has spent over 120 years as stewards of the land and are excited to share what we have protected.
Enjoy Private Tent Camping in a Pristine Aspen Forest with a fire pit and picnic table. All within 500 feet of Sylvan Lake. This is the perfect place to disconnect yourself from the city!
Your fee includes free access to 120 acres of forest, excellent wildlife viewing and unlimited deadfall to use as firewood, if you don't mind some manual labour.
My kids cut and split firewood if you would like some waiting at your site when you arrive. We have seasoned and split bundles for $10 and you can pre-purchase them when you complete your checkout.
It's like a lemonade stand for them...just more work. ;)
A professionally maintained porta-potty is on-site for your comfort.
We are pet-friendly!
If you enjoy the water, this is an ideal location for Kayaking, Paddleboarding or just lounging on an air mattress.
With its picturesque scenery and shallow shoreline, Sylvan Lake is a great place to spend some time.

Collin’s Wood is a very special place indeed. The land was bought by my grandfather years ago when he moved to Canada from England and wanted to chase his log cabin dream. Our main cabin my family built from trees on the land, entirely by hand. We have photos of the trees being cut and the bark being peeled off. Since then, we’ve made many changes out there, we now have a guest cabin that used to be a Teacheridge (back when teachers would live in a one room building beside the school), eventually it was turned into a cafe and now it sits on our land as a guest cabin. This place is so magical. With a quarter section of land I grew up running through the forest with my friends and learning about what the land has to offer. My parents have spent every spare weekend out there making this paradise into what it is today. All the buildings were created by my family through labour and love. We’ve hosted weddings, and family reunions. We hope you appreciate how special this place is. Come see for yourself!

There are two beautiful lakes (Battle Lake and Pigeon Lake) within a 10-minute drive that offer boating, fishing, beaches, biking and walking trails.

4 nights at Collinswood Retreat
This was the best possible place to spend a rainy long weekend with my dogs! Spent hours wandering the trails right there on the property and retreated back to the cozy cabin when the rain picked up. Loved sitting under the covered deck with a book and seeing the sunrise over the river valley, and the outdoor shower had an excellent view (and hot water). Made good use of the sauna and THOROUGHLY enjoyed my massage (do it, trust me!). The cabin was adorable, bed was very comfortable, and the blackout curtains meant I was able to sleep in past sunrise.

Gordon had our wood ready for us when we got there, as well as a propane fire pit if needed. There was lots of dead fall to chop up for fire wood. It was quiet and clean and a close walk to the beach!

Weekend Trip to Collinswood Retreat
This is my second time staying at Collinswood, and a second glowing review of their property. The forest yurt is incredibly beautiful and well themed, and the feeling of seclusion is a lot of fun! It’s like the outside world is a completely separate planet. Geri and Pat put in a ton of work to make this place a wonderful time and it shows in every little bit of their sites, from the inclusion of board games to the cute themed slippers in the yurt. I’m already thinking about my next visit, and we just got home! If you’re looking for a fun weekend out under the stars for you and a few others, I don’t think there’s a better place to stay than here.

The only 1 negative is leveling was very difficult but Geri helped so much.

If you are looking for a perfect nature getaway, I highly recommend booking a stay here! My boyfriend and I stayed at Site 2 (Tall Tree) and had a very good time. The site itself is very spacious with plenty of room to relax under the trees, and the location is unbeatable with the lake being only a short two-minute walk away. Gordon was a wonderful host! Super helpful, welcoming, and quick to respond to messages. We had a wonderful, relaxing trip and highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to unwind!

Had a great stay at Collinswood Retreat this past weekend. The campsite was clean, quiet, and well looked after. We were camping with our family and had a really enjoyable time. Even with some less-than-perfect weather, the grounds stayed in good shape and we were still able to make the most of our trip.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, and everything was easy from check-in to departure. It was nice to find a campground that felt relaxed, family-friendly, and not overcrowded.
The kids had a blast, and it was a great chance for us to unplug, spend time outdoors, and enjoy a few days away from the usual routine. We'd definitely come back again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful camping getaway.

I loved my stay at Rough Diamond Ranch! I visited for over a week and stayed in the barn loft with my two dogs. Laura also allowed me to bring my horse who stayed in the pasture right next to the barn. Laura was so kind and welcoming - made me feel like family. The barn loft and property were clean and felt safe for a solo traveler. Truly an incredible ranch stay with a beautiful view of the mountains and I was happy to hang with the horses, goats, dogs, cats, and chickens!!! Quiet peaceful back roads to walk my dogs and ride my horse. Ranch was easy to find. Laura was very prompt with communication. The town of Water Valley is nearby and has two great restaurants. 40 mins into Calgary for a fun day trip. Had a great stay, thank you!!

This place is absolutely incredible! I’m thrilled I discovered it, though I kind of wish I could keep it a secret! Traveling solo, I felt completely safe and found the atmosphere so relaxing. I had one of the best night’s sleep ever in the treehouse. The outdoor bathtub was a standout feature—such a unique experience! The owner was incredibly accommodating, giving me a tour of the property and being available for any questions during my stay. The tea and freshly baked cookies were a delightful touch! I can’t wait to return!

Weekend Trip to Collinswood Retreat
May long weekend is always a big unknown with weather. That's why my friends and I always book a cabin of some kind for that weekend. We had chilly winds, but I was nice and snug in The Happy Hut. another friend stayed in the renovated bus, and one brought her camper. The accommodations were great. The compostable toilet for my use was the best dry toilet ever! it brought a new meaning to the throne Room. It was amazing! hahaha. There were so many eccentric and quirky features on the property. It was great! Loved my view of the valley for my morning coffee. The shower in the old silo was fabulous. Pat (Geri was away) was an amazing host. Friendly, accommodating and helpful. He was often accompanied by his friendly four-legged companion Piper. It was a perfect property for a getaway from the city. Loved hearing nothing but songbirds singing and the occasional coyote off in the distance. We will be back. Want to try the treehouse and The Rosebud Cafe. Highly recommend Collinswood Retreat.

I only needed a place to park and sleep, and this worked out perfectly. Happy to have a toilet there, and it looks like a good place for a bbq/fire pit with a group. There was a bit of miscommunication about arrival, but this was my first time hipcamping so I didn’t really know much anyway. Laura was lovely in sorting it out. Seeing the animals was a bonus, and I’ll definitely stay again if I’m in the area!
