Socks Family Farm comprises 30 acres, high in the hills of Cabot VT. We book only one reservation at a time, to give our guests a unique, private experience. Campers can choose from a wide open site with a view of the mountains, or a secluded site in the woods, with the babbling year-round brook in the background. The fields are meadowland, where we pasture our animals, cut hay, and enjoy the company of a diverse cohort of grasses, flowers, insects, and birds. On clear nights, the stars are lovely, and you'll be treated to the breathtaking sweep of the Milky Way. During the day, you can linger in the gardens, visit the sheep and chickens, wade in the pond, hike in the woods, walk the lovely dirt roads, or head out on your bike. If you're ready to range further, we're a short drive to hiking, paddling, fishing, swimming, epic mountain biking, quaint eateries, microbreweries, and more. St Johnsbury and Montpelier are the closest cities (25 and 35 minutes). Burlington is 1.25 hours, and Montreal is 2.5 hours. We moved to this land in 2007 with our two small children, and began developing a homestead. Over time, we built 2 greenhouses, a large equipment shed, planted and fenced an orchard and berry garden, a large vegetable patch, made several flower gardens, set up systems for pasturing sheep and chickens, planted native shrubs and trees, and completely renovated the farmhouse. We practice organic regenerative agriculture and landscaping, with a deep commitment to strengthening and diversifying ecological systems. We offer free farm tours, and those who want to help and learn are welcome. We love the beauty of this land, and look forward to sharing it with you.We book only one reservation at a time, so you have the whole place to yourself, with your choice of two lovely campsites. Our Mountain View site has wide open views to the far hills. Parking is near the site, just off the road. Our Forest Brook site features a secluded spot for a tent just inside the woods, near the edge of the field. As the name implies, you'll be hearing the brook quite clearly! Parking is a bit further, about a 300' walk. Both sites have a primitive fire ring.

Campfires allowed
Firepit, private. All sites have fire pits. The wooded site has a fire pit in the adjoining field, for the safety of our trees and our campers. Campfires are not allowed during dangerous weather conditions (low humidity and high wind). These conditions are not common in Vermont, but do occur occasionally. We will give advance notice of fire bans when possible, and refund firewood reservations. Thank you for doing your part to keep our wildlands safe!
Toilet available
Portable toilet. We have a handwash station and bucket toilet for campers. Handwash station is a foot-operated sink with soap, and bucket toilet is, well, a bucket and seat. Liquid waste is welcome (encouraged, actually) on our fields.
Pets allowed
On leash. Dogs must be leashed. Please, no dogs with barking issues, or a history of aggression towards people or other dogs. We have a farm dog who loves people, and other dogs with moderate to low energy. Our campsites are outside of her electric fence perimeter, so she will not pester you at mealtimes!
Potable water available
Spigot. Potable water is available at the outside spigots at the farmhouse...filtered well water.
Showers available
Hot water . Coleman solar shower is available as an add-on to your reservation (5 gallon black bag with hose & mini shower head, which heats up in the sun). If you are interested in having a solar shower at your site, please add it as an "Extra" when you make your reservation. We have a cold-water hose available for rinsing off muddy gear, feet, and dogs.

It was such a beautiful and peaceful time! Susan was very communicative and responsive. Helga (the dog) is such a major sweetheart. The best part of the weekend here was definitely the farm tour. I really enjoyed hearing process of how the whole farm has come to be!

We had an amazing stay at Socks Family Farm! You get the best of Vermont here; the people and location are incredible and the environment is peaceful, all while being centrally located to some great spots. The site was secluded enough to feel comfortable in your own space with close access to water. You really feel like you have your own slice of heaven during your stay. Susan was a phenomenal host and made us feel so welcomed. Definitely opt for the free farm tour to learn more about what they do!

The view from the site was amazing, sleeping under the big sky on a clear night was breathtaking. Susan and her farm was charming and accommodating. We were the only people camping, it was quiet and fairly secluded. And the baby chicks and sheep were a bonus.

This was such a beautiful spot to camp! Susan and Helga the dog were great hosts! The Mountain View is incredible! If you stay in this area we highly recommend The Den at Harry’s Hardware for dinner/drinks! It’s a great little bar/restaurant in a hardware store down the road from camp. Great atmosphere and company!

Our stay with Susan was wonderful—exactly what we were looking for, and just as charming as it looks in the gorgeous photos. We opted for the camping spot on the edge of the woods, and absolutely loved being tucked away with the sound of the stream gently rolling behind us and the friendly sheep as our neighbors in the field nearby. We were extra grateful for the helpful tip from Susie about a gorgeous hiking spot nearby! If you have a chance to check out Nichols' Ledge, I highly recommend. As Susie said, a short hike with a big reward at the end.

Tent camping at Socks Family Farm was lovely. Susan was a kind and informative host. She gave me a tour of her homestead and some of the rich history! Her positive vibe helped make my solo camping adventure feel safe and comfortable. Her dog Helga was a treat, and hearing the sheep and chickens added to the charm. I stayed at the Mountain View campsite. The view was gorgeous and the area was spacious. The sun directly hits the tent so it gets a bit hot in the mornings but nothing I'm not used to. It helped dry out my tent after it sprinkled early Sunday morning. You have to walk a few feet from the parking area to the campsite but it isn't bad. Susan gave lots of recommendations for things to do which I was grateful for. There are lots of hikes around the area for any level of hiker. Plus, there are many lakes for kayaking and taking a dip. Overall, a great stay at the farm!! I would (and probably will) stay again. Thank you so much, Susan!!!

My daughter and I stayed at the Mountain View sight on Socks Farm. Susan greeted us and gave us an informative farm tour. She was very gracious and answered all of our questions. She and her family gave us suggestions for local attractions and restaurants that were suited for our tastes. The bit of rain that we got gave us a beautiful rainbow. We had a great visit at this beautiful location.

We absolutely loved our time at Socks Family Farm. Susan was a wonderful host, super accommodating and helpful! We loved learning about their family homestead and the practices that go on behind the scenes. Susan even let us feed the baby lambs! The view was wonderful & we will definitely be back when the weather is warmer. Totally totally recommend!

I loved tent camping on Susan's land! The view was perfect, and the host recommended so many great activities for us to do. Overall, we had the perfect fall weekend in Cabot.

The farm had amazing views and the host ensured we had a dry spot, which was appreciated. However, the spot we paid for wasn’t flat - for either tent. As such, we spent most of the night sliding to the bottom our sleeping pads. If you go here, be sure to ask about the site.

Beautiful property. Pitch your rain fly high to mitigate the condensation from the grass! I was in the area for a weekend class so unfortunately couldn’t spend much time on the property beyond sleeping. But it is a lovely spot; beautiful views. Hosts are very welcoming, including the pup!

We loved staying on Susan's farm! The property is gorgeous and you are free to roam around, checking out the sheep and chickens, looking at the interesting crops she has growing, rubbing Helga the happiest farm dog's belly, or just strolling the rolling hills that were covered with periwinkle flowers this time of year. Two of the sites were too wet to have the option of setting up there, so we were relegated to the most popular site, mountain view, whose name really delivers! Amazing view of our beautiful Vermont mountains, and parking right next to the campsite itself is so convenient. We were delighted to find the sheep grazing so close to the site so we could enjoy the lambs running around and playing with each other. The fresh water and bathroom are a short and easy walk away, and Susan made herself available to give a short tour of the property, and is so kind and you can just tell she loves what she does :) Thanks!!

The other reviews here don't lie—this property is awesome! I stayed at the 'Mountain View' campsite and experienced the most beautiful moonrise I've ever seen, complete with silhouettes of sheep. Susan and her dog Helga couldn't be friendlier. There's no (Verizon) cell service within a few miles of the property, so plan accordingly; head on Rt 2 towards St Johnsbury or Montpelier to get service. This would be an awesome base camp for long gravel bike rides; I plan on coming back!

Oh my goodness. Our stay at magical Socks Farm was really something to remember. Susan was an incredible host, showed us all around the property, and even let us bottle feed a lamb in the morning! Socks farm has stunning views, nearby water in more than 3 different places, friendly neighbors, and just an incredible vibe. We will be returning in august!!

Susie was a great host and helped me out last minute when another hip camp site didn't go as planned. The tenting location was beautiful as well overlooking the mountains, the moon, and the garden! She was very knowledgable about her gardening and showed me around her homestead. I would definitely stay here again!

Camping on a gorgeous Farm!

Absolute beauty!!!! Susan and her family could not have been better hosts. Friendly and responsive, Susan even took time after her long day of work, to give us a tour of the amazing gardens she and her husband built. We chose the "Mountain View" site, and spent the week looking off into the rolling mountains. You get amazing views of the sun and moon rising over the ridge. Tons of wildlife, berries growing wild, and very, very little traffic on the dirt road where the farm is. Helga the farm dog, is the most friendly, happy pup I've ever met!! When you come to fill up your water ( which is better than anything in a bottle BTW) Helga just rolls over and smiles, waiting for those belly rubs!! What a beautiful, amazing family and property :) 5 minutes away from Cabot, where you have a general store, farm HUB pickup, gas station, and of course Cabot Cheese factory. There are wonderful farms all surrounding the site, where we found amazing local products for our meals.
