Stay was great. Beautiful views. Site was as described.
The listing showed that shower was an amenity (and did not mention needing to reserve).
When I asked about showers upon arrival, he stated we needed to reserve for that... and I assumed I must have misread the listing (I hadn't) so I let it go for the night. The next day I messaged in the app about what needed to be done to shower and attached a screenshot of his listing, listing showers as available for the campsite.
He stated that the shower wasn't working and that it shouldn't have listed shower on the listing and that he would get back to us if it could be fixed.
We went to look for the hose to fill bucket for handwashing and other purposes & almost stepped on a snake in the path (was across the path from where we saw the hose). No big deal, it was a black racer which are non-venomous (I've had them come into my house cellar & shed a couple times... no issues). He came out yelling at us for "messing with it." We weren't. Said it was venomous, it wasn't. He yelled at us to get back, we said we needed the hose; he threw the hose at us. His wife/partner came out couple hrs later to let us know the shower was working & she was very nice. His angry explosion at us was not okay. Also we found tons of white round tablets all around the campsite when woke up, that weren't there before...so someone came into our campsite to place them while we were sleeping; creepy. The composting toilet must not have been emptied prior b/c it overflowed with just three of us. That was gross.

This place never disappoints. Checks all the boxes that you could ask for.
This campground was such a dream. Right on the water, with beautiful views of the Southern Maryland coastal landscape. Private and spacious, this campsite is perfect for a small family, a couple, or a few friends spread out. The accommodations are primitive but the host provides a water hose and somewhat of a restroom area. I can't wait to return to this site. You will need to be fond of the resident rooster making his morning calls, and of the low siren of a distant train (its actually quite melodic). And when it rains, the water does come pretty close up on the site and with high winds, the water gets choppy and scary but you'll just need to move more inland. The host is friendly and attentive. This is a gem!!!!

We had a great time at Michael’s site! Good views, decent early season fishing, and we were right on time for the osprey/bald eagle migration. Highly recommend!
Host was great, the camping spot was amazing and the peaceful atmosphere was absolutely the space I needed. My family of 6 enjoyed our vacation there and the fishing was amazing. I most definitely would recommend this property over and over again. Most definitely will be returning to this site again.
The view is beautiful. My pictures are amazing. Very quiet and peaceful. Close to the rivers edge. It did not rain, so I had no issues. However, flooding would be the only concern or negative. This is my favorite or number 1 campsite. This was my 5th camping trip. I would book again.

We had a great time here! The host was very kind and accommodating. She let us borrow her kayaks for the day to visit Mallow's Bay which was a total lifesaver! We only had our inflatable one and that would not have survived the shipwrecks. Unfortunately the pier has been damaged so we couldn't use it but it was still lovely staying right on the water.

My weekend at Donna’s site was nothing short of perfect—my wife, our dog, my parents, and I all had a fabulous time! From the moment we arrived, Donna shone as a super-host, attentive, warm, and remarkably thoughtful. When the rain made the ground slippery, she proactively brought us hay to ensure safety—something we truly appreciated.
The site itself had all the comforts of home, which is rare in a camping setting. Hot showers, running water, and electricity were conveniently available, making our stay both cozy and hassle-free. Fishing was a real highlight: we caught plenty of fish, making for fun, satisfying afternoons.
A small note: If you're arriving near high tide, just be mindful of where you pitch your tent. But honestly, that was the only minor challenge in what was otherwise a flawless 10/10 experience.
Overall, Donna’s place offers a brilliant blend of outdoor charm and thoughtful amenities. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a peaceful, family-friendly getaway with excellent hosting.
Great campsite on the water, far enough away from the host’s house. Getting to the site on the path was a little tight with a Ford explorer, so my Tahoe would have been a bit of a struggle, but we made it work. It rained the 2 evenings we were there, but not enough for the water to rise into the campsite. Overall, we had a good time, and the host was very accommodating.

The camping place is nice. Few spots to set up a tent. Most of the day all area has shade from the trees. Beautiful views of sunset next to the fire pit.
Good access to water.
Smallwood state park is 7 minutes away and great place to spend time on trails, if not there are few nice playgrounds for kids.
Be prepared for pretty basic toilet set up. As well as the host and neighbor living in visible distance.
The host is very hospitable and friendly. Communication was on point and timely.
We had a great time at this site. The place was secluded and had lots of wildlife activity. Watching bald eagles and ospreys fishing in the creek was a pleasant sight from the campsite. Host provided kayaks and we spent entire day fishing the creek. Host was good with communication and highly recommend this site

Beautiful property, rained a lot so the river was a bit mucky but the campsite didn't flood. You do see a factory across the creek and some boaters but otherwise beautiful nature!
We had an awesome time at this site! Even with some bad weather, the trip was still a great experience. The campsite was right on the water—beautiful views, peaceful atmosphere, and the fishing was excellent. The host and his wife were both fantastic—super friendly and helpful the entire time. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a great outdoor getaway. We’ll definitely be back!

Breathtaking sunsets and shady mornings on the water. The site was tucked away, private and serene. Nestled between protected areas, this site has this highest amount of biodiversity I've seen in the area. We saw many bald eagles, hawks, and ospreys and enjoyed the nightly toad chorus. The host was very friendly and accommodating. Dreaming about coming back already!
Campsite is beautiful. Overlooks the River, and you can see the sunset on a clear evening - stunning! Lots of ducks, bald eagles, so much wildlife! We brought our dogs and they loved it!
100% privacy aside from the fishermen on the water that occasionally appear in their boats. The host is MORE than accommodating!!! Gave us firewood, answered questions, and was more than happy to help with anything. He is very good about taking care of the toilet and cleaning up the site before/after each camper. Ask him about the water before wanting to kayak - he is knowledgeable and will let you know!
Look at the weather before you go - As others have said, be careful on a rainy weekend. It can pool into your tent site if you’re not prepared. We had an experience with high winds that almost took the tent away, so be mindful. The host provides a shelter which was very helpful to keep things dry.
Beware of ticks and mosquitos! No seriously - Bring that corticosterone cream. The host nicely laid out moth balls along the campsite but the bugs can get bad if the air is muggy and humid.
We have stayed at a lot of Hipcamp sites. This is our absolute favorite. I wish it could stay a hidden gem. However it deserves recognition. 10/10 recommendation
I celebrated Mother's Day 2025 along with my Mother and Aunt at Riverside Camp. The site and host were nothing short of amazing. The site was spacious and very well maintained. In addition the potty area was clean and well maintained. In addition, the host was VERY helpful, friendly and hospitable. I will absolutely stay here again!

The hosts were very friendly and helpful! I wasn’t so sure about driving my car down to the site and they offered to let me use a wagon to haul my gear down. The water was great and overall it was a very relaxing trip. I will definitely be back!

Riverside Tent Camp
My friends and I had a nice time at Riverside Camp. The weather was definitely on the cold side, but we came prepared with ample firewood. The site sits across the water from the Chicamuxen Wildlife Management Area, and we were treated to the sounds of many animals throughout the weekend, including bald eagles, hawks, owls, shrieking foxes and even howling coyotes at night. I didn't do any fishing on this trip, but I imagine it's pretty good in the warmer months. On site is a fire ring, table and Adirondack chair available for use. There is also a well-kept porta-john nearby! A huge plus about this site is that it's only an hour or less from DC! I'll be adding this one to my list of go-to's, for sure.

I camped right on the bank of the Potomac and a flock of chatty ducks kept me company all weekend. There is long pier, more scenic than utilitarian. The portapotty was tidy and conveniently located. The owner gave me a warm welcome and helped me navigate the little hill down to my site. There was a table, an Adirondack chair and a firepit. She also provided wood. There were kayaks available to take out for a paddle. Bald eagles soared right over my head. It was a peaceful place for a weekend escape and I highly recommend it.

The drive to the property is somewhat secluded, but definitely manageable for most cars. We pulled up to the barn per their instructions and were met shortly thereafter by one of the owners who showed us to our camp. We were able to back in pretty close to camp but please note I would only recommend this part if you have a 4x4 vehicle. Also there was some thorny brush so maybe keep that in mind if you care about your paint job. There was another camper nearby but we were separated by trees and never really saw them. They do have a launch for your kayak but we were able to launch directly from our campsite as well. I tried to fish from the bank a bit but would get snagged on low hanging branches every now and then. Your casts would need to be perfect. A lot of weeds in near the bank but my son and I caught a few good sized catfish. I saw several other fisherman on the water so it looks like overall this is a popular spot known for fishing. The camp also has a fire ring and fold out table which was nice. I would definitely come back and would recommend this site to anyone looking for a weekend getaway.

Camp Paddle
Nice place, as advertised. Easy process.Very close to the water. Could see neighbors property from Camp Paddle and there is a naval base across the water, we only heard one explosion but we camped during the week. This was a good affordable place. Thanks!
This was our first HipCamp experience. The host was great with communication. We did a kustom booking, so I'm not sure what site he placed us at, but it was right on the water. We were able to get our vehicles down to make unloading and loading easy. He has a space up by the barn to park them out of the way if ya want. When he found out that it was going to rain for our wisit, he cleaned out a shelter there at the site just in case. It was a good size and was a life saver. He also offered use of the large sun room off of his house if the weather got dangerous. We used it to keep everything out of the weather, and to cook in. There was a porta potty right next to the site, and we also opted for access to the full bathroom in the sun room. The kids were able to do a little fishing, and we took the kayaks out in spite of the weather. All in all, everyone enjoyed the weekend away.

The site was very nice and so quiet. It was a perfect size and was right on the water with a dock that my kids loved. Firewood was already collected for us, and a very clean portapotty was available close by. The hosts were super easygoing and very very responsive. There are a few lights across the water but the scenery is beautiful. Several small (quiet) fishing boats so it must be a pretty good spot!

The scenery was beautiful, along with the dock going out over the water! Got to see quite a few bald eagles too! The only downside was when it rains hard, you are downhill, and all the rain water came downhill to us. It was a long downpour too, couldn't see across the water at all. and we were up to our ankles in water. Had to dig a trench to divert the flood away from our tent lol. Host came and checked on us when the rain lightened up a bit, which we really appreciated! When you book, just be sure the weather is clear-ish!!
