Welcome to our not-for-profit grounds, now open to the public. The camp has been set up as a youth-oriented facility that welcomes travellers and regional people. All proceeds go towards running costs and improving facilities. We have an onsite caretaker (LES) for maintaining the property.  Dog friendly (must be controlled at all times!) and good access for caravans and all types of vehicles. A large flat grassed area for camping and 200m walk to The Boyne River at Pikes Crossing with access for swimming. There is an area to launch small boats and ideal for canoeing and kayaking in protected waters. Close to Lake Awoonga (4km drive) for fishing and all other aquatic activities along with a great barramundi stocked impoundment. There is a large undercover area with tables and chairs, flushing toilets and hot showers and designated campfire area. All campers have access to this. We also offer a commercial kitchen and BBQs for group bookings.  We welcome community functions, weddings, birthday parties and youth groups. Inquiries welcome.

This is for regular camping on the large flat grassed area with the use of hot showers, flushing toilets and covered outdoor area.  PRICE for site is $15 per Person,   The Boyne River is a short stroll down from Campground.   Welcome to our not-for-profit grounds open to the public. The camp has been set up as a youth-oriented facility that welcomes travellers and regional people. All proceeds go towards running costs and improving facilities. We have an onsite caretaker (LES) for maintaining the property.  Firewood is available at the campgrounds.  Dog friendly (must be controlled at all times!) and good access for caravans and all types of vehicles. NOISE restrictions are in place and must be adhered to. There is to be no discharge onto the ground from caravans etc.

For groups who wish to camp and have use of the commercial kitchen space and full use of grounds. Maximum of 50 people and minimum one night stay. Excellent facilities. Hall is available to use for functions. There are no chairs or tables available inside the hall at this time. There is no dormitory style accommodation inside the hall. A real gem! Quiet and clean, and the facilities and price can’t be beat! The birds and wildlife up there were incredible! It also got nice and cool in the evening, which was a huge relief after sleeping near Cairns for a couple weeks. A little tip- there *is* plenty of space…. But if you want flat and shady ground (near the back or side), and don’t want to cram in next to someone—come early. If that’s not possible though, and you can stay another night, set up bare bones the first nightand wait until the next morning. A ton of people left pretty early and I could move to a prime location if I wanted. Les was also great. Very helpful and friendly.

Camp Kuna exceeded my expectations in every way. As a local, I'm always searching for quality camping spots, and this one definitely earned a place on my return list. The facilities were impressively well-maintained and spotlessly clean. The kitchen came equipped with all the essentials you'd need, which made meal prep a breeze. I particularly loved the fire pits – they were thoughtfully designed and added the perfect ambiance to our evenings. The campground offers plenty of shady spots, which is a huge plus for staying comfortable during the day. The location is ideal, with just a short, easy walk down to the river. It's close enough to be convenient but far enough to feel like you're truly escaping into nature. Even though I live nearby, I'd absolutely camp here again. It's the perfect balance of comfort and outdoor experience. Highly recommended for both locals looking for a quick getaway and travelers passing through the area.

Probably the most outstanding camp kitchen ever. Catered from pots, pans, gas burner stove, outside BBQ and even dish washing liquid!! Free washing machine and the amenities were spotless at all times. Les does an amazing job, and the locals are friendly. Would highly recommend...great nature chill spot. The Red Dog loved the river walk.

We loved how close it was to Lake Awonga & Tannum Sands. Les the caretaker was friendly & helpful. Quiet & peaceful. Great commercial kitchen with plenty of pots, pans & utensils top save unpacking your own. Ice available. Great water pressure in showers & clean amenities. Water available on request. Would recommend.

Was quiet n peaceful, well maintained, easily accessible for all vehicle types. Had plenty of facilities camp kitchen, communal area, laundry, toilets and showers. Camp kitchen had toasters, stoves and even air fryer plus more.

I loved camping at Akuna camp. It was very peaceful. Toilets and showers were clean. Easy to find and lots of flat spots for camping. I was camped near the toilet block and kitchen for my convenience, it was a little noisy with people coming and going using the facility. It didn't bother me, but if you don't mind being further away, it would be quieter.

We stopped here for an overnight stay on our way home from a 4 week trip. This was the perfect location to pull in for the afternoon. Plenty of room to allow us to stay hitched and facilities were great. Not too far from the highway so we could continue on first thing the next morning.

Well kept parcel of land, very clean ammenities, everything you need in the camp kitchen and the showers had good pressure and hot as you need! Very quiet and lovely surroundings. We will be back 👍

Stayed 4 days and enjoyed the, well kept grass area, camp kitchen and very helpful caretaker. Tha amenities were clean and the 5 minute drive to Awoonga Dam suited us. Great spot! We will return
