A footbridge across the river leads directly to Mount Field National Park, with the National Park Visitor’s Centre and Cafe, the Charles Marriott Shelter (BBQ facilities and children’s playground), and Russell Falls minutes walk away. The path passes through temperate tree fern rainforest, populated by glow worms. A minimum three nights stay is recommended as this area has so much to offer- Mt Fields walks and water falls- Junee caves- styx valley and land of the Giants- Strathgordon dam-creepy crawly walk-Lake Dobson- Rail track ride- Maydena adventure hub- Tassie bound adventures and you will need time to relax and enjoy Russell Falls cottages and the peaceful river, rain forest and birdlife.

We are also surrounded by both Mt Field and South West National Parks as well as the Styx and Florentine valleys, home to some of Australia's tallest trees. Enjoy any number of activities including bushwalking, trout fishing, kayaking or simply just taking in the stunning views.
We are offering self contained caravan accommodation as well as a private camp site for up to 2 vehicles. Campers must have their own amenities if staying at the campground, as there is no shower or toilet facilities. Nearest toilet and dump station is 1km away in the Maydena township. There are only basic supplies to be had at the post office, open Mon to Fri, so get all major supplies before arrival. There is a cafe and restaurant option as well.
We are pet friendly however all pets must be kept under control to keep the wildlife safe.
Campfires are permitted in our allocated fireplace except on days of total fire ban. Bring your own firewood or prebook a wheelbarrow full.

Located an hours drive North West of Hobart near the quaint little town of Ouse (pronounced - ooze) and set on the pristine Derwent River. Like so many of the towns on the Derwent River, this region is very popular with bushwalkers, fishing enthusiasts, and mountain bike riders.
Overlooking the "pot-belly" of the Derwent River, This place is a fishing and kayaking heaven . Have a swim in summer, kayak or go for an adventure on your mountain bike. There are two kayaks and two SUPs you are welcome to use. And there is a boat ramp just a few kms down the road to launch your boat.
The Bunkhouse is a beautifully built structure, with large windows and plenty of space. It's two storey, with the upper open-plan level accommodating 8 people in single bunk beds. A further two guests can sleep on the large sofa bed downstairs.
The bunkhouse is fully self-contained with a kitchenette, toilet and shower.Clean sheets and blankets . Wi- Fi and streamed TV movie channels Please note - this is not the ritz! It's a simple bunkhouse, providing shelter to sleep, in a great location. If you wish to make use of the firepit, you'll need to BYO wood, this firepit is not often used. Instead, we'd recommend bringing a small portable bbq with you to set up by the river!

Located just a 20 minute drive from the Hobart CBD, this beautiful 0.67 hectare coastal bush property is set in a little valley right by Kingston Beach, Browns River and Tyndall Beach. It's just a short 5 minute stroll down the road to the beach, or up the road to the start of the Alum Cliffs Track.
Activities you can enjoy here include birdwatching, bushwalking, swimming, kayaking, fishing, sailing, bike riding, dog walking.
You'll be staying in a fairly new comfortable bedroom with ensuite bathroom tucked under my house. There's a double bed made up with fresh linen. You'll enjoy hot showers, a flushing toilet and almost complete privacy. There's mains water. With prior notice, you could use the washing machine inside the house and hang your clothes on the clothes line strung between trees.
Parking for two cars and/or caravan/campervan is easy. A circular driveway surrounds the house with a driveway extension.
I hope to build an outside kitchen at the nearby shed, but for now campers need to be self-contained for their cooking and washing up, or else take the short walk to Kingston Beach and the excellent cafes and restaurants there. Food scraps need to go in a compost bin on site.
Visitors are welcome to enjoy a fire when conditions allow it. Longer pieces of firewood are provided free of charge and kindling can easily be collected from around. (I'd rather you didn't use the shorter pieces of cut firewood as they are for my wood heater). You could enjoy a wood fired bush bath for a small charge, conditions allowing, with advance notice. Early evening is the best time to enjoy a bush bath and star gazing with set up in the afternoon.
Wildlife is abundant and includes birds, wallabies, possums, echidnas and bandicoots.
You are welcome to bring your small dog, but please ensure it's under control at all times. Wildlife are at risk if your dog is a hunter and roams free. Tyndall Beach (the Kingston dog beach) down the road is where your furry friends can have a run. Walk them to the beach on a lead and let them off there. I have an older Jack Russell who is afraid of big dogs, sorry.
I think this is the perfect place to experience a little bush luxury before beginning or ending your Tassie adventures.

4 nights at Bush Refuge by the Beach
We had a fantastic stay at Barara's. The house is at the end of a road leading to the sea. Therefore, there was not too much trafic, but to us it was only a few minutes to get down to the water. There is a bridge you can only cross on foot down at the beach, leading directly to Kingston beach, a lovely little city with nice restaurants and coffees. Barbara was a fantastic host, very attentive to our needs and we only saw each other a few times, but when we did it was as to talking to a friend. Thank you for letting us stay with you, the place itself was surrounded by nature and made us feel right at home. Everything we needed!

Maree and Andrew's caravan was a perfect fit for what I needed. A comfy bed, lounge seating, small kitchen and a beautiful property. Secluded enough but within walking distance of the Maydena centre. They were also great to chat to and very accommodating of anything I needed. Highly recommended!

We had a lovely time staying in the caravan. We had family members who brought their own caravans and they were also on the property only a 100 metres away from Maree and Andrew’s caravan. This enabled us all to enjoy 40th birthday celebrations together. It was a very picturesque place to stay and we really enjoyed the surroundings. Maree and Andrew were very welcoming and available if we needed anything.

Absolutely stunning location!! Quick and easy transaction with managers and Vicki and her partner never said No to any reasonable requests - even brought a fire pit down to our pod and some extra cooking gear because we were traveling on motorcycles!! The facilities were spotless and cosy to use - great temperature in the bathroom and the pod! So lovely right next to the river and the walks from the property are a must do!! Weekend Trip to Nature's Edge
We absolutely loved our stay in the Natures Edge Caravan. The property is relaxing, peaceful and scenic, with cute native wallabies hopping by to keep you company. The caravan was fully equipped with everything you need and very clean and comfortable. The bathroom and shower are close by and after walking past some beautiful tree ferns your entry is greeted with timber features and a wonderful spa scent. Maree and Andrew were very kind and welcoming. They do a great job keeping the gardens nice and provided a tour to orientate us when we arrived. The caravan is seperate to the house building and feels very private and not too secluded. We knew our lovely hosts were there if we needed, but they didn’t linger or interrupt us at all.
The property is just a 15 minute walk from the Maydena township and I have no doubt I will be back to stay again. Thank you!

Group trip
Our family, all adults and one very pregnant daughter, had a great time, it was an adventure taking the kayaks and paddle boards down to the water. We weren’t in a rush and we had plenty of laughs trying to get on and off the boards.
It was basic accommodation, we bought our BBQ and Eskies, there was a small fridge and we spent most of our time outside, taking in the serenity. What a view!
We took our camp chairs too, just for added comfort, there were plenty of chairs provided.
Our dogs had a fantastic time, tired them out swimming and playing cricket.
Brad lives next door, we wouldn’t have known he was there. I did speak to Brad prior and he was very obliging, gave great directions and we would definitely go there again.
Thanks Brad for allowing us to stay at your lodge, letting us take our dogs and for being a great host.

2 nights at Driftaway Camp
It’s a toss up between the cabin, the loo and the sauna for the best view out over the Huon River and to the mountains beyond. The host Jem is lovely and welcoming and went out of her way to make us feel at home. We stayed here after camping out for a week in our camper trailer and it was the perfect way to start de-camping if you know what I mean. I think we’ll be making Driftaway an annual pilgrimage.

Tarn Shelf Loop
Tarn Shelf Loop, 16km (without detours) 5.5 hours for a slow walker. Spectacular!
Also wandered into Russell Falls at 7am from nearby campsite. Gloriously peaceful!

Stunning waterfalls and rainforest
I visited Mt Field National Park when I was young and was so worried it wouldn’t be the same, but the National Park / Russell Falls were pristine, lush and we thoroughly loved the walks and then going back at night to see the glow worms.

Amazing rainforest!
Beautiful national park with an amazing rainforest, waterfalls, pademelons, black cockatoos, and other fauna. Very accessible, we did all the treks with a toddler. Highly recommended.
