The best camping in Brook Islands National Park, QLD guide

Overview

About

Embark on a journey to the pristine Brook Islands National Park, a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Nestled within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, this cluster of islands offers unparalleled opportunities for birdwatching, snorkelling, and immersing oneself in a vibrant natural ecosystem. Although camping is not permitted on the islands, the allure of their untouched landscapes and rich biodiversity beckons adventurers to explore their wonders.

When to go

The best time to visit Brook Islands National Park is between April and September, when the weather is milder and the migratory birds are present. Avoid the summer months from October to March, as access is restricted to protect nesting wildlife and the presence of marine stingers is higher.

Know before you go

  • Access to the islands is restricted during certain times of the year to protect nesting seabirds and shorebirds.
  • Be aware of marine stingers and crocodiles; always follow safety guidelines for swimming and snorkelling.
  • Boating regulations are in place to preserve the delicate marine environment; adhere to speed limits and no-anchoring zones.
  • While camping is not available on the islands, nearby options include Hinchinbrook, Goold, and Family islands national parks.
  • For a seamless visit, check park alerts for any closures or warnings before planning your trip.
