Location! Location! Location! Thistlebank Estate is a peaceful, leafy property on the outskirts of Mount Barker WA. Overlooking a picturesque lake and surrounded by new and old trees, this property is a tranquil haven with easy access to town, the Porongurups, Albany and Denmark. Properties like this are few and far between and we want to share our piece of paradise with people that appreciate nature and peace. Thistlebank Estate Hipcamp currently offers two sites, separate to the main property - a caravan / RV site at the lake facing east and a tent / camper trailer site at the lake facing north. As an eco-friendly site, guests are required to leave no trace and cause minimal disruption to the local wildlife and flora. No services are provided so BYO toilet, water and power. Small groups and indoor pets will be considered upon request.

This site overlooks our beautiful lake looking east. Wake up to the most stunning sunrise, morning bird song, and a short walk to the best bakery in the region. You will need to be fully self contained and off grid. The local public amenities are only a short drive at the Mount Barker Visitor Centre. To access the site, we recommend driving up the hill and turning to enter the property from the south. As there is a diverse population of ducks living on the lake, please contact us prior to booking if you have an indoor pet. No outdoor pets allowed. Due to high fire risk, fires are only permitted in the designated fire pit area during winter. Please contact us to confirm and firewood is available to purchase. There are a number of nearby walks and trails - the Porongurups are 20 mins drive, the Stirling Range is 45 mins and there is a lovely accessible trail as well as mount bike trails at the top of Mount Barker Hill which is nearby the estate. The lake is fresh water and suitable for swimming at your own risk.

North Facing Lake View

Overlooking our beautiful lake, this site is leafy, secluded and quiet. This site is only suitable for tents, camper trailers and small campervans. Access will require some maneuvering and is not suitable for a van. We recommend accessing the property from the south, pass through the gate, turn at the orange marker, do a full 360 back to the driveway and enter the site entrance from the west over the dam bank. Please look out for any small trees when driving on the site. We recommend setting up under one of the many trees on the site. There are no facilities, so campers will need to be self contained and off grid. Please be mindful of snakes in the summer time.

I had a fantastic stay at Thistlebank Estate, and Kathryn and Steve were such great hosts! I booked the "East Facing" site which had nice green grass to set up on (a rarity in the middle of summer!), HEAPS of room, and overlooked the lake. I'd definitely recommend staying here if you're looking for somewhere peaceful around Mount Barker. :-)

The campsite was very private and peaceful. There was a lake with some very gorgeous ducks. It was very close to everything in the Mount Barker area. I would definitely like to go back soon. Also, Kathryn and Steve gave us a present of home grown produce.

Such a beautiful campsite overlooking the dam. Easy to spend the day watching the ducks, listening to the birds and having the frogs sing a beautiful lullaby. Kathryn and her family have created a little piece of heaven walking distance from Mt. Barker. We definitely will go back, thank you for sharing!

The site was lovely and level by the dam and very pretty. It was a great base for exploring the area. The hosts were really friendly and the produce was welcome and completely unexpected thank you . These are 2 sites opposite one another across the dam and quite private with a scattering of trees. Very occasional road noise and the odd train but a fantastic spot !!

Lovely scenic spot from lake, hour drive to bluff knowl, close to mt barker unbelievable bakery and 20 minute drive to the skywalk. Host welcomed us and was very helpful with infirmation

Great spot near the lake. Very peaceful. Love how the little bridge lights up at night and you sleep listening to frogs chatting 🤣👍 Driveway was a a bit tight with a 30ft o/a caravan but manageable if you pass, turn around at the top of the hill and then enter.

Absolutely stunning and peaceful place. A few mins from Mt Barker central area but you drop out of the world surrounded by nature. The ducks are adorable and super friendly. 10/10

What a truly special place! Such a private location only shared with the friendly ducks that love a chat! and if you're a person that needs music or soft sounds to sleep - look no further, the frogs will get you in a trance and you will drift off in your chair easily!! AMAZING. Located in town at the visitor's centre, is water and waste drop facilities. The local Bakery at Mt Barker is sensational also. Easy to shoot off from this location to Albany or Denmark for day trips. Steve and Katheryn are very friendly (loved the welcome basket of fresh fruits from their garden) and it was our pleasure to stay on their property. Highly recommend.
